In 2023 tax, he failed to put my wife's group prepaid state tax as credit, we paid $91000 more tax. I found the problems, informed him, asked him to do amend tax returns, he refused to do so. I hired an accountant to do the amend tax returns for the refund. He confirmed that Sonny missed both above.

Things I've learned by having a real professional work on your taxes: 1) You get more money back...even when they don't let claim your pet bunny as a dependent (hey, do you know how much bunnies cost?!? I think I should get the same tax deduction as a kid! Especially as my bunny won't be a drain on our social resources. I'm just sayin'!). 2) You save yourself a couple hours arguing with your husband if I can "fake" not living in MoCo and not pay the higher tax rate...I mean, we live in Gaithersburg...that's *practically* Frederick County (with the lower tax rate), right??? 3) You don't make your significant other cry when you proudly proclaim that the Fed is going to give you a $1,335,830 refund...because you screwed up the decimal point thingie. By *A LOT*. Oops. Heh. Yeah, I know. I am the most highly functioning ditz on the planet. But here's the OTHER awesomething thing about CHC. Unlike other tax prep places (like, H&R Block, not that there's anything wrong with them), CHC *ALSO* does financial planning.SOOOO...when you get back that super awesome refund...you can INVEST IT...which CHC does as well. So in a nutshell: unless you're Warren Buffet or Mitt Romney...call up CHC. Just like you would call a plumber to fix your drain...call a professional to do your taxes! YAY!

It involved some partial rollovers into qualified plan from IRA preceding the conversion. I had done a bit of research but wanted an expert to validate the specifics of my situation. While other attorneys I've met with in the past on other topics have a free consultation to validate they are in a position to help; Eric charges $250 for the initial conversation which is an in person meeting. He doesn't offer a first 5-10 minute phone discussion to ensure he is a fit or the need. After about a week, he called to say what I was specifically trying to do wouldn't work. I requested him to send any specific reference to the law section; IRS publication; or articles as his evaluation was contrary to what I was finding myself. He said he would send me something, but never got back to me. There was some additional up and back with questions as I sent him some IRS material after he never got back to me per above. Eric is not responsive, going weeks without a reply. He emailed me on Nov 9th apologizing that he'd been on a big project, and would reply soon. It is now Dec 2nd and still not heard. My perception is that my question was not in Eric's wheelhouse, familiarity with current rulings regarding rollovers to qualified plans from an IRA of earnings, leaving the basis behind in an IRA. In the end I felt like I wasted time and $250 without clarity. To his credit, at least he never asked for more than the initial consultation fee. But regardless I still feel as though I don't have a solid answer and would he would have been better for him to simply decline to engage on the topic during the initial meeting if this wasn't the type of thing he could get to resolve quickly or he didn't have bandwidth.
