I initially had a great experience with Jaime Langer and genuinely believe she has strong design…read moreskills. However, my overall experience with her ended in deep disappointment and frustration. If you choose to work with her, do not let her refer you to Hummingbird HRD (Crystal and Brian Mansanares), as that is where everything unraveled. Jaime first helped me after a Christmas morning plumbing disaster, and at the outset, she was fantastic--quick to respond, knowledgeable, and actively engaged in creating thoughtful layouts. Because things seemed to be going well, we also hired her for additional design work in our kitchen and living room. But when she referred us to Hummingbird as the general contractor, she stepped away entirely, leaving us in the hands of an inexperienced team that led to an overpriced, incomplete, and poorly executed renovation. Where Things Went Wrong Jaime and Crystal turned out to be personal friends rather than longtime collaborators, and our home was essentially a "guinea pig project"--a fact Jaime admitted only after things had gone terribly wrong. The staggering lack of professionalism from Hummingbird resulted in months of stress, wasted money, and a home that remains unfinished to this day. After Crystal declared the project "done" (despite glaringly poor workmanship), I asked Jaime to see the state of things herself. She agreed with me that the quality was unacceptable and even apologized for how badly things had turned out. She admitted that Crystal lacked the necessary experience and recognized that we had been unintentionally used as a test project. To make matters worse, she also told me, "Wow, I didn't realize you were so detail-oriented--I would feel exactly the same." As if they thought they could get away with subpar work and I wouldn't notice--truly insulting. Jaime's Final Disappointing Choice To her credit, Jaime convinced Crystal and Brian to attempt to fix their mess, but she ultimately abandoned the project. Despite personally acknowledging all the flaws, she later sent me a completely contradictory statement: "I have every faith in Hummingbird completing the project as promised, and overall, I believe they have done an exceptional job." This project was supposed to take 4-6 weeks starting in March--it was still dragging on in November, at which point I cut ties entirely because it was no longer worth the emotional toll. To this day, our home remains unfinished and cheap-looking, a painful reminder of the stress and financial loss we endured. What We Actually Got for Jaime's Fees After paying her design fees for both the bathroom and kitchen/living room, all we truly received was: * Layout options * A recommendation for Hummingbird (which proved disastrous) * Help selecting a kitchen table and rug Had we gone with a different general contractor, I might be writing a glowing five-star review. Unfortunately, given how this played out, I cannot recommend Jaime Langer at all.

Sometimes we all need another perspective and Jaime is a great design partner. Jaime is well known for her excellent staging work, but also consider her for interior design.

My experience with Duet Design group was terrible and literally exhausting. Their team was…read moreunresponsive, difficult to work with, and unprofessional. BE CAREFUL!! Duet's design recommendations were poor and didn't fit with the style we had clearly communicated to their team. Duet was unwilling to make any modifications to their design plan to meet our needs. My wife and I went as far as doing our own online research to explain the type of aesthetic we were looking for with examples of coloring, furniture products, and providing piles of magazine clippings. Yet, they kept coming back to the same colors and products that we clearly stated we didn't like. At one point, they even presented us with the actual product from one of our examples, rather than using the information as a guide to our style - WOW. They were so off the mark, and seemed much more about what they wanted, rather than what we wanted. All Duet had to do was listen a little and they probably would have been a little more successful. I tried several times to reach a fair resolution and work with Duet, however they were unwilling to work out an amicable resolution.

We just wrapped up our project with Duet Design and couldn't be happier with the results! "Is this…read morereally our house?!" - That's truly how we felt when we walked in for the final reveal. To provide some background, we evaluated many options before selecting Duet. Devon & Miranda (as well as their team) brought a level of expertise, attention to our needs, sensitivity to our budget, and downright STYLE to the table! All these important factors came together and gave us an incredible level of comfort entering into the project. They have such a flexible approach to the project, but with the needed experience/insight to make anything a success (all while protecting/building the value of the home....great market intelligence). For example, we had them redesign our entire house, but work with the majority of existing furniture, art work, etc. We can't imagine changing anything in the house now, which is definitely a new (and much welcomed) feeling! Duet is also unique due to their incredible network of trusted trades/contractors/etc. We couldn't get over the professionalism, timeliness and attention to detail that each demonstrated throughout the project. People always say that you always need to add at least 20%+ to any project and that's just the way it is with everyone. Not in Duet's case.....they came in spot on! Unheard of and we are very happy we found them. It makes sense that they're getting so much positive press in major magazines, etc. and we wish them all the best!
