I got my RV stuck. I backed into a spot, and the spot happened to be over a septic tank. The septic tank was just below grade and had a 3" concrete cover spanning a 3' x 6' opening. The RV weighs in as 14 tons gross, with 2/3 of that on the rear axles. That calculates to about 4.5 tons over one rear wheel. Well, 4.5 tons vs. a 3" concrete cover, the cover loses. The back corner of the RV dropped into the septic tank, and was hopelessly stuck, and listing severely.
I tried the closest heavy towing company, and their truck was out of service. I then called Reeves. The owner asked me to text a couple of pictures, and once he looked at the pics, he decided that it would take two trucks to extract me and gave me an estimate. He dispatched the trucks, and was here in the expected timeframe. (He was about 40+ miles away, so I expected it would take a while. He must have left almost immediately.)
Well the trucks got here, and after a bot if thinking, he concluded that one truck would lift the RV in the rear via the trailer hitch, while the other truck would pull from the front. We realized that the trailer hitch would likely be sacrificed by doing this, but pulling without lifting ran the risk of moving the rear axle out of line.
Well, the plan worked as expected. Once everything was hooked up, it took about 5 minutes to extract my RV. The hitch was toast, as expected, but the RV was otherwise intact, other than the damage incurred in the initial accident.
We settled up, for the exact amount of the estimate, which I thought was quite reasonable given the facts that it was almost 9PM, they dispatched two heavy hauling trucks, and they came from 40+ miles away. They were very professional, very polite, and worked very safely. They informed me of the risks - in other words, they didn't tell me they could get it out intact with no additional damage, they set very realistic expectations.
I sincerely DO NOT EVER want to use them again (because using them means I'm in trouble), but if I need them, they would be my first call. They get 5 stars for very good reason! read more
