They offer Saturday school and if your child has missed a day attending Saturday school, which is only 4hours, it makes that day up. In Saturday school the children have options to do crafts, cooking, sewing, art, and other activities that they do not get to do in school. They are currently building a new office and classrooms the construction is coming along beautifully. The yard monitors are always supervising and helping the students. All in all this is a wonderful school for elementary aged students

Roosevelt is a small school with better student to teacher ratios than much of the bay area. The teachers seem to have so much more concern for the kids than our previous location and treat each child as a valued member of the community. Parents are very involved with this school and the various parent groups sponsor several activities and functions throughout the year. The principal, Mr Hills, makes it a point to know each child by name and is VERY accessible to parents and listens to issues and concerns with an open mind. Instead of being some stuffy bureaucrat behind a desk, he seems to be involved in every aspect of running this school, is accountable and seems comfortable in his own skin. This is a good place for kids to come and learn as both of my children going here are really flourishing. The older of the two never really had a decent teacher until this year and was getting increasingly frustrated with school. Under his teacher, he is really having a good year and takes pride in his schoolwork. It is amazing what a difference a year makes.

Really amazing administration and leadership - very active in building connections and on going projects between the boys and girls. They all know each other. My children have so many resources - reading specialists, math specialists, etc - that allow for differentiated learning within the classroom. For example, it is common for children in the same class to be learning at different math levels. While we are not religious, my favorite thing about the school is their global approach. The children are very educated about current events, world religions, world languages (Spanish, French, Mandarin, Latin), art, and music (Music Conservatory program). While academics and teachers are top notch, the global approach and emphasis on school community is very impressive. We love the school and all our kids are thriving! Also, great sports program!

Two of my fellow graduate students from the Earth and Planetary Science department at UC Berkeley and I prepared and gave an interactive lesson and experiment on earthquakes and geological faults to a class of boys. Students interacted with the handout we prepared electronically via tablet technology and we broke the students into three groups, one with each of us volunteers. The students in my group were well behaved, contributed to group discussion, and not afraid to partake in the hands-on experiment. On the whole I had a good experience. One of the other volunteers was male, the other female, and I am female. I had no issues getting the male students to pay attention, nor did the other male volunteer, though we were both geophysicists and earthquakes fell in our realm of graduate studies. The other female volunteer, a geochemist, said she had a little difficulty with the students in her group, but not bad. Our conclusion was maybe it was related to our knowledge background and area of study in graduate school and how that translated into our teaching style, though there were lingering concerns it might have been related to her being female.

We have also participated in their summer camp the last two summers! We hope our son will follow the same trajectory. Teagan absolutely thrives at Broadmoor. The play-based curriculum is something I can truly get behind. As a school-based occupational therapist, I understand that play is the primary occupation of children, and we need to honor where they are developmentally. At Broadmoor, we play hard, get messy, sing silly songs, and climb high. We place value on the process and the discovery instead of the outcome. It doesn't matter how pretty the artwork or the cooking project is. What matters is how engaged the child was during the process. Did they explore using all their senses? Did they problem-solve? Did they find it fun and meaningful? With child-directed play and five engaging stations that change daily, the answer is always YES! This is a parent participation preschool, but that is perhaps the very best part. At first the commitment might seem daunting, but it is completely doable. We are a dual income household, and we still find time to fulfill our commitment at Broadmoor. My husband and I have learned so much at parent ed nights; we usually switch off as there are two per month. These sessions have helped us become more caring, mindful, and playful parents. Being part of this strong community reminds you that it truly does take a village to raise our little ones. I greatly value the insight and friendship of my fellow Broadmoor parents. We get together for birthdays and play dates, a moms' night out, a fundraiser. We learn, grow, and bond with one another and with all the children at the school. On my workday at Broadmoor, it is very common to have two little snuggle bunnies on my lap. I love the other children at Broadmoor as much as I love my own. Being a part of Broadmoor has given me an even greater appreciation for the work that teachers do. We had the pleasure of working with directors Dale and Colleen for our daughter's first year of preschool; they retired after 20 years. This year, two former teachers and previous/current parents of Broadmoor have stepped up to the plate, and the experience has been fantastic! We love teachers Liz and Kacia. The entire community benefits from their program since they do so much outreach and are involved in the farmer's market, free, monthly open-to-all playdates, and the annual cherry festival parade. As a former Lincoln student, I demand that the school gets improved because the staff are NOT nice, many of the structures are outdated (excluding the "big toy"), and the food is really extremely bad.
