I can't believe we have this tiny gem right on our doorsteps. I've been in the Redwood Gallery a few times to buy gifts and some new art for myself, but this delights me. They've opened a tearoom, and their claim that it's the smallest in the world must be perfectly justified-it's absolutely tiny, but very comfortable, filled with beautiful art all by local people, and has a lovely relaxed ambiance that encourages conversation and browsing the gallery.
The owner Lin makes everything in the cafe fresh, right in front of you, like sitting in someone's quirky gorgeous little kitchen while they spoil you a bit. No instant coffee here-just delicious fresh coffee, and whatever kind of sandwich you fancy. Proper home bakes and fresh soup are in the works soon, I'm assured. I can't wait! A good scone is worth travelling for.
It's such an unexpected find, I'm still a little stunned that it exists less than a mile from where I live, but I would encourage anyone in the area to go and support it. This is EXACTLY the kind of little business that rural areas need, from someone with loads of imagination, vision, and the guts to make it happen. Lin in full of ideas and stories and delightful to talk to, but not pushy in the slightest (if you want to have a moment to yourself, drink your coffee and read your newspaper, then you're welcome. The gentleman already there when I arrived was on his third coffee when I left.
Be warned though. If you get to talking with Lin about her essential oil mists that she makes and sells in the gallery, you will be leaving with more than just the smell of coffee in your nose. I bought three, and 2 have already been claimed by friends. They are absolutely divine, and it makes me wonder if there is anything this woman can't do. read more
