Yak milk bone (for dogs) and goat milk soap (for people) - these are but two of the more interesting things we discovered during our stay at this dog-friendly bed and breakfast. Sitah and Dale (the owners) and their staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Their affable mien, as well as their superb culinary skills, made our stay memorable and deeply satisfying. We chose the East Room. It is lovingly decorated, spacious, and well-furnished. The queen size bed, desks, sofa, mini-fridge, and heater that warms up the toilet seat provide just about all of the creature comforts one needs. The room also has a fire stove to delight the pyromaniacs and a huge, deep stone soaker tub that can easily accommodate two sumo wrestlers (or half a dozen jockeys). A couple of things to note: (1) There's no cell phone reception (at least not T-Mobile or Sprint). But there is free WiFi. (2) While the windows and skylights may infuse the room with a bright and cheery feel, they may make it hard for you to sleep in late. So don't forget to pack your sleep mask. read more

I've been holding off with my review for nearly 8 months because I wanted to be sure that the Redwood Croft would live up to my expectations of a 5 star establishment. I am so delighted to now say that Sitah and Dale made the most special day of my life a total dream. After searching up and down the California coast for a place to get married that felt "right", I was feeling pretty disheartened and was ready to throw in the towel. But, on a whim, we decided to take a trek to Bonny Doon on our way to another venue location and I happened upon the Redwood Croft for a potential place for out of town guests to stay. And wouldn't you know it, they mentioned they host events on their website! My now husband and I took a day and drove down the coast from San Mateo and stopped in to chat with Sitah about her home. The place was (is!) stunning and from the moment we set foot on the grounds, we knew it was the perfect place to get married. Sitah and Dale charge a reasonable amount for the 2 night rental of their whole B&B, plus having nearly 100 people on-site for a wedding! It was so magical to spend the night there before the wedding, then to wake up and eat Sitah's homemade blueberry pancakes (which she made a batch gluten free for me! So amazing!) and spend the rest of the day primping and relaxing before we said "I do!" on their beautiful back lawn and garden. They made everything go so smoothly and they opened their home to my family for the weekend -- it made the wedding weekend just sublime. Before we had our big day, the hub and I spent an impromptu overnighter at the Croft, just to get a feel for it. Our night was peaceful (we stayed in the East Room) and I can't wait to go back now and spend special weekends and anniversaries there. We came here for a dog-friendly getaway over the holidays, and like other reviewers mentioned, we left seriously considering how we can move down to Bonny Doon. Friendly people, delicious breakfast, ample opportunities for hiking and stargazing, and a welcome pup made for a perfect low-key vacation. The owners (Sitah and Dale) know the area well and can recommend good hiking and activities nearby. We booked the Garden Room, with private hot tub access. This room also comes with a enclosed private patio, which was perfect for letting our pup run around while we soaked under the stars. This was (inexplicably) the least expensive room - I suppose the room itself is smaller than the others, but it was perfect for two humans and a dog, and we all enjoyed the amenities greatly. The entire grounds are enclosed in a fence (the owners themselves own a dog), so your furry companions can explore freely while you relax. We will definitely be back! read more

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Redwood Croft this past weekend over Haloween. This place was exactly what I was looking for, a place to get away and have a relaxing weekend. We stayed in the garden room and it was fantastic! The room included a private enclosed patio with a jacuzzi, perfect to appreciate nature and the beautiful outdoors the Redwood Croft had to offer. The weather was great and the stars were beautiful. The owners, Sitah and Dale were so welcoming we couldn't help feel right at home. Any questions or needs we had they were more than happy to accommodate. They offered coffee starting at 8 am and breakfast was served around 9:30. The food was absolutely delicious with many of the ingredients coming straight from their property. Everything was perfect from the cozy house, amazing decks, beautiful scenery, right down to the smallest detils. It really was the perfect getaway from the city. This is our second trip to Redwood Croft and it certainly won't be our last. Sitah, Dale and their staff (including their two friendly pups) make this our go to place in Santa Cruz. The Garden room is a cozy delight with access to the jacuzzi, although be forewarned that the bathroom has only a tub with handheld shower. LOVE. This dog-friendly haven of trees and fresh air made me consider moving to Santa Cruz. (That says a LOT.) Room: fabulous. We booked the West Room with the kitchenette. Supercute treehouse-y feel on the second floor. The bathroom is rustic swank! Double showerheads! An abundance of thick fluffy towels! Be careful if you have dogs--ours tried to drink out the bidet (that was funny) and our older girl had some trouble coming up and down the stairs (kinda steep). My *only* criticism is that I wish the website had more clear specifics about each room. They give a range but not the price per room, so I'm listing here: The West Room $225/night Already detailed some above, but just to add: King size bed, kitchenette with mini fridge, stovetop, miniature oven, microwave, sink, coffee maker. Dishes, flatware, pots and pans, etc. Nicely outfitted for a weekend or week-long stay. The doubled-headed shower does not have a curtain or door...? Not sure why (aesthetics? not really needed?), but I will say it was fully functional without one, just beware of some inevitable spray, even with shower heads angled in. It's the only 2nd story room, so beware for dogs or humans with mobility issues. They do have a handy gate for the top of the stairs, so your pups can hang out on the deck. (Beware if your dog is small and/or crafty--our beagle tried to get on the roof.) * The East Room $215/night Almost rented this! The wood burning stove in the living room-like sitting area was a big draw, as was the private patio. The bed is smaller (a queen, I believe) and there is no kitchenette, but first floor access is nice for doggies. It is also right next to the outside deck where breakfast is served. * The Garden Room $195 (?)/night It's less than the East Room and more than The Cottage The only one I didn't see in person! It has a hot tub AND is super private/hidden away. However, because of proximity to the East Room, you may either want to be totally quiet or become fast friends with whoever is staying in the East Room. * The Cottage $165/night In hindsight we should've rented this room, not only because it was the least expensive, but it had a kitchenette and a low Ikea-looking loveseat that the dogs could've lounged on, easy grounds access and a very close parking space. There is a small loft area that could be a reading nook (lying on belly on pillows), or just place to put your bags and conserve space in the cozy room. The bed is smaller, a full or queen, but it's separate from the main house, which might also be a plus if your shepherd mutt doesn't seem to like the caretakers' little white terrier mix, Spinner (who is very cute btw, he is trained to take in the paper!) On top of it all, owners Sitah and Dale cook up a spectacular breakfast. I would go back in a second. We are plotting our next stay already. read more

I cant really review this as it is now.... being a bed and breakfast and all.....HOWEVER.... This is the home my father Larry V. built back in the mid 80's. I LOVED living in this house!! I have many great memories of living here and maybe someday I could stay here again and sleep in my old room!! =) The house as I remember it was built around a central staircase that led straight to my room. The living room was open and spacious as well as the kitchen! It had a big wood burning stove built on a brick hearth... at least that's what I think its called.... My dad really loved this house and was a fantastic wood worker!! WARNING TO PARENTS: Our 3 yr. old son was attacked by Spinner, the owners white Jack Russell Terrior, on October 6, 2012, while we were guests. He received 17 stitches on his face as a result of the dog bite. I was told by animal control that the dog was not removed from the location, only into quarantine for 10 days on the property. PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN STAYING THERE! To other guests without animals or children; the property is beautiful with lots to do. They have ping-pong, a trampoline, and games. Rooms were clean, but we encountered a couple spiders, and the pull-chain toilets could wake the neighbors a few acres away. It's in the pines approx. 5 miles from the coastline. I'm sure it would have been a very quiet and relaxing trip had we not been put in the circumstances we were put in. read more

If you want to get away, like REALLY get away, and stay in an intimate place (a gorgeous custom home turned into a B&B) in the midst of the woods with nothing around for at least 10-15 min, then this might be the place for you. This is actually a place that I don't even want to write about for fear that one day when we want to do a last minute getaway, they won't have any rooms! To describe the place... The house itself was custom built decades ago and is beautiful. Wrapping porches, pretty gardens, a TRAMPOLINE, chiminea, and a ping pong table, there's plenty to keep you busy (and wi-fi of course). The furniture is decked out in a classic, shabby-chic with a mix of old and new but it's beautifully done and well put together. The rooms... 3 of the rooms are connected to the main house (West, East and Garden). The Cottage is completely separate yet still on the grounds. So if you want TOTAL privacy, I'd say maybe stay there. We predominately hung out in our room. The West Room was up a flight a stairs with a private entrance. We loved the outside deck (the best part!). The bathroom has a gorgeous tile shower with 2 heads- perfect for couples. The room itself seems like the converted master. I believe it is next to the owners room but we barely heard them at night. I think if I were to go back I'd go for the East. The fireplace and soaking tub seem ideal up in the woods. Nonetheless, the West Room was just fantastic and we sat on the porch quite a bit and wish we had another day to stay there! The breakfast was with all the guests and a very intimate experience. Everyone (including the host/hostess) were extremely enjoyable to chat with and very friendly. If you're not into that sort of thing, then I'd skip breakfast (although you would SERIOUSLY be missing out). Breakfast consisted of a fruit plate, lots of coffee, fresh scrambled eggs, fresh out of the oven biscuits with fresh jams and butter, roasted yams and bacon. It was delish! I'd highly recommend staying here if you really want to be refreshed and surrounded by the serenity of the woods all while being in a cozy comfortable place. We loved it! (Having now met the owners, reading the 1 star reviews are a bit humorous. It's very unfortunate about the dog incident (Spooner is a 15 year old waddling mini jack Russell) but the owners were extremely welcoming and enjoyable to chat with.) read more

What an awesome weekend and a great find! This place would have received 5 stars if they accepted credit card. I was a bit skeptical to mail my deposit, which was addressed to Sitah and not Redwood Croft, but luckily this place is the real deal. Redwood Croft is close enough to home, but far enough away that it doesn't feel like you're only the next town over. Upon arrival, it was as if we had stumbled into the forest moon of Endor. Any minute a Ewok would come by to check us in, but instead we were greeted by Spinner, the family dog. The host & staff were extremely friendly. It felt as if we were a part of the family. Each morning we were served a 5 star breakfast in their nice cozy dining room. Sitah even gave us the recipe to her delish ginger glazed banana. YUM! Tips: Book early as they only have a few rooms available. And bring a flashlight as it gets pretty dark outside. read more

John and I just got home from a weekend in Santa Cruz. We spent two nights in Dale and Sitah's beautiful and serene retreat, and that was all it took to make us want to move in! I earned major brownie points for finding this treasure in the enchanted forest (as another B&Ber described it), and let me just say: it's so refreshing to patron a place that welcomes dogs with open arms. Remy and Martin had a blast, running to their hearts' content-- the fenced property provides well over two acres of lush greenery, terraced lawns, and magnificent old trees. We stayed in the garden room. where a real fireplace kept us cozy and our own private outdoor jacuzzi reminded us that the sky is still full of stars! I still can't believe such a peaceful and secluded place exists just an hour's drive away. We can't wait to go back. We just got back from 2 wonderful days at the Redwood Croft B&B and can't even begin to express how wonderful it was. My husband and I have been to Redwood Croft five times or so since 2009. I was searching for a B&B with an outdoor hot tub for my husband's birthday and found the Garden Room. It's a perfect weekend getaway - just close enough that the travel time isn't too bad, and just far away enough that we can really get away and relax. Dale and Sitah are delightful. We've also had a great time at breakfast meeting the other guests - somehow everyone who finds their way to Redwood Croft is friendly and engaging. The Garden Room with loft and private outdoor hot tub and the East Room with a wood stove and giant stone soaking tub are both fantastic. We haven't tried the others yet. The tree-lined grounds are a terrific place to relax in a hammock or just take in the sound of birds and wind in the trees. For how easy it is to access, it feels like a million miles from anywhere. Then there's the food! Wonderful seasonal breakfasts, and they are sensitive to those with dietary restrictions. The blueberry pancakes are particularly heavenly. If you're looking for a place for lunch or dinner, the Roadhouse is close and has live music on the weekend, but I particularly recommend Oak Tree Ristorante. The tasting menu for two is a steal. If you're up for an adventure, there is tons of great hiking in Henry Cowell, or take the zip line tour at nearby Mount Hermon. If you are allergic to dogs, don't let the dog-friendly part scare you! My husband is allergic and had no problems - they are very thorough about cleaning, and will give the room an extra go-over if you let them know in advance about your allergies. This review is for the East Room, for a romantic get-away. Redwood Croft was recommended to me by a friend who has come here several times with her husband. It has been a very busy and stressful stretch for my partner and me. Finally our weekend to escape our normal lives and come to Redwood Croft had arrived. It truly was a wonderful escape. My request to my partner on finding is lodging was a place with a soaking tub and a fireplace, close to nature. What a treat to have the East Room, which offered us all of that, but also wonderful couches for lounging, gorgeous skylights to see up into the forest and wine glasses for enjoying with our own champagne. The room also has a microwave and mini-fridge, which was helpful in rounding out our wine-spread, and was very cold (champagne slushies!). I loved the Asian touches and picked up the brush and sumi to supplement my own paints I had brought. Plenty of pillows on the bed and lots of extra blankets to keep us cozy, although the wood fire mostly did the work to keep us warm. The tub was large enough for my partner (6'5") to lay totally flat; enormous, and quite decadent in this drought era. There is also a hot-tub, which we found out on arriving that we also had access to that evening as the Garden Room wasn't rented. Too bad we forgot our suits. The property offered gorgeous gardens, delicious food, a few dogs and lovely hosts. Breakfast both days held us until well past noon. Sita was very warm and charming. I think she really enjoyed me tinkering with the old zither next to the piano. We would certainly stay again, hopefully when it is not as rainy a weekend. 4 min to Beauregard Winery; 10.5 min to beach via Bonny Doon. 30+ to Santa Cruz beaches. Empire and Felton grade are both an adventure to drive in the dark and rain... Be careful and allow time to take it slowly! read more

This is a rarity among bed & breakfasts: they welcome dogs and children. Moreover, they have things children love -- a trampoline and ping pong, for example. The room decor is classic B&B: cutesy and cramped. We stayed two nights, and the breakfasts were excellent. Eggs one morning, blueberry pancakes the next. Don't bring a book, unless you can read in very dim light. The host & hostess are very pleasant. This place is reachable only via winding mountain roads. It is about 20 minutes from Felton, 25 minutes from Santa Cruz. If you want to decompress, I recommend it highly. read more

We took over all the rooms for a wedding and really loved being in the redwoods. Our king size bed ( the only one) was at the top and was so lovely. Even my husband who has back pain said the bed was nice. We did some of our own yoga on the deck, enjoyed wonderful coffee and a fabulous breakfast. My girlfriend and I spent Valentines weekend up here. We both were thrilled with the place. The house is situated on a beautiful property surrounded by redwoods and lush vegetation. It was pet friendly and gated so you can let your dogs run around on the property while you relax with a good book, or cozy up by the fire. We took the East Room and we personally think it's the best. It was spacious and had an amazing stone-tiled tub in the bathroom. Honeymooned here and wouldn't have it any other way. Originally I was planning on staying home in town, but when it came to it we decided to change plans and use our gift certificate. We stayed in the East Room, this room came with a deep, stone tub that was heavenly first thing in the morning (at night we got lucky and used the outdoor hot tub belonging to the vacant room next door), we also had a lovely sitting room wood stove in our room which our 2 pups Orson and Phoebe loved. Sitah and Dale have created quite the relaxing atmosphere, everything about Redwood Croft was perfectly detailed, yet simple and comforting. Breakfast was the BOMB! I'm quoting my new husband, I didn't hesitate to agree. We started with the most ripe honey dew melon and nectarine sliced and perfectly styled on the plate. Next up sweet Lillian brought us those most perfectly cooked polenta topped with an over-easy egg and served with a side of sausage. Oh don't forget the fresh squeezed OJ. Did we mention the polenta is the best! THE BEST!! I have never craved polenta, I have never really even been of a fan of polenta, but like my hubby said you could drink this stuff, the egg made it even better too, so rich and creamy. the redwood croft was a surprising last stop on my wife's and my honeymoon trip around CA last summer. it was amazing. no joke. i grew up in a family of hospitality geeks, and i work in the restaurant biz, so a positive review from me comes with the ring of truth. i mean it! call now! read on for more pleasing detail. here is the story. we had arrived at a disappointing reservation in Carmel and were unimpressed with paying close to 5 benjamins for the small, stale-smokey room next to the laundry. however, it was 5pm, so it was a big decision to ditch it. we searched our trusty Dog Lover's Guide to California and called upon Sita. she had an opening - on friday - afternoon - in august - stoked that they had no problem with our two 80# pit mixes romping about, we took a chance. we love davenport, we said. we had had a first date there, we thought. hopefully it would work out! it more than worked out. dale and sita were gracious and hospitable, showing us to our room after our late arrival, before they headed out to santa cruz (sita was singing in a local restaurant, how cute!). the room was amazing, huge, with a kitchenette, a king bed, and an armchair which gryphon, our dane-pit mix, decided was the perfect dog bed ("the dogs are our guests too!" said Sita). the bathroom had a bidet (not into it) but an amazing shower that was so big, it was like a small pool. it didn't even need a curtain. the grounds are another post altogether. as the name implies, the house is surrounded by redwoods. there are innumerable trees and bushes, lots of space for the dogs to romp and people to relax in, a hammock and a trampoline. (!) our pups were so much more excited here than when we were camping. i can't even believe i raised such city pits! i was happier, too, i must admit. truly, the place felt so comfortable, it was like visiting the aunt and uncle that you wished lived closer because they were SO much cooler than your parents. we had a lovely dinner at the roadhouse down the street, another establishment big on service as well as quality. then we had breakfast in the morning catered by Dale and Sita. we were asked kindly when we would awake and when we did, there was hot, fresh coffee waiting. we had homemade blueberry pancakes on antique china, sitting down like real grown-ups with the other guests. morning #2 we enjoyed a game of scrabble with the other couple as well, while the pups played with their new friend, the shih-tzu puppy. i could go on and on about how they truly made our honeymoon a special experience. but instead of read about it, you should experience it yourself. very few people pride themselves on the true definition of hospitality these days - selfless, joyful, holistic, graceful, hospitality - and my father ingrained in me just what that felt like. we found it at the redwood croft. i strive to achieve it with my guests, just as dale and sita do with each person who comes through their home. treat yourself and enjoy this retreat into the extraordinary. read more

The Redwood Croft is one of my favorite places I've ever stayed, and Sitah is the perfect hostess. The setting on a hill among the redwood trees, surrounded by lush gardens, just can't be beat.The East Room was warm and cozy, yet full of light, thanks to all the windows, French doors, and skylights - loved looking at the stars and the silhouette of the redwoods at night. The linens were top quality, and everything was sparkling clean. Totally enjoyed the fresh apples right off the tree, and the use of the hot tub (because the Garden Room was not occupied). This place is wonderful. The breakfasts they made us were incredibly delicious, the hot tub that came with our room was secluded and surrounded with raspberries that we ate in between soaks... they welcome dogs... they're a couple of miles from the Bonny Doon winery, a few minute walk from an eco reserve, 10 minute drive from the beach and about 20-30 minutes from Santa Cruz. I was happy that you couldn't get cell phone reception out there because it forced me to have an actual vacation, truly detached from work. We really enjoyed having a fire in the fire place in the evenings. There was a slight wireless connection, so we were able to look up local parks and restaurants on yelp, and yet, conveniently didn't have a strong enough signal to support checking email. If you stay here during strawberry season, you *really* have to go to Swanton's organic berry farm. A little bit north of Davenport on Hwy 1, it's on the right. We went there twice a day while we stayed in the area. The desserts were delicious and the strawberries... well, we ate them until we almost popped they were so perfect. ...the only reason I am giving 4 stars is that they don't take credit cards. I've been here more times than i can count and would go more if i could. Sitah and Dale are the bests hosts ever. I've never seen my dog Sophie happier-I swear she had a grin the entire time we were there. The food in the morning is organic, locally grown and beyond spectacular! Just returned from a very nice stay at Redwood Croft. This place did not disappoint. The setting is gorgeous, the host and hostess (and host-dog) were super nice, and the breakfast was delicious. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is that the bed wasn't very comfortable for me. We had a great time taking our dog to the beach in Davenport, and walking in the nearby nature preserve. We stayed in the garden room, and it is pretty tiny. The bed is a double, I think, and we are used to a king, so it seemed really small. The bed pillows were not to my liking either, usually I bring my own and I wish I had this time. The hot tub was nice, though not as hot as we like. The best part was really the great breakfasts, the fenced-in grounds for doggie play, and the nice people and dog. We will likely go back and try the other room next time. I highly recommend this place if you have a dog and want a nice getaway! read more

We have stayed at Redwood Croft three times, including our first and fifth anniversaries. It is somewhere I will return to with my family throughout my life, I just love it. The house is surrounded by beautiful redwood trees on gorgeous property, so if you're looking for a getaway nestled in the woods, this place is for you. So much thought has gone into the design of the house and grounds - every corner could be photographed for a travel magazine. There are so many stunning little places to relax and enjoy some tea or a glass of wine - there's even a trampoline! Some of the rooms have kitchens, some do not. I would suggest getting a room with a fireplace and getting dinner take out from a nearby restaurant. There is a good restaurant in Felton called the Oak Tree (about 15 minutes, beautiful drive). Also nearby is Henry Cowell State Park, an absolutely stunning grove of Redwoods. There is fast (and free) wireless internet. AND they are dog friendly and kid friendly. It would be a perfect place to get married actually - it's that beautiful. The breakfast deserves it's own paragraph. My husband and I love gourmet breakfasts and have been known to spend hundreds on breakfast alone and I can honestly say Sitah makes one of the breakfasts we've ever had. I have a gluten allergy & I don't eat Mammal and my breakfast needs are always met, and then some. This is an absolutely perfect, relaxing getaway in the redwoods, and I cannot recommend it enough. read more

If you are looking for a truly romantic spot, away from it all (even electronics to help business people like me "unplug"), then Redwood Croft is the B and B for you. Although only about a ten minute drive from the nearest "town", it feels as if you are away from everything. Sitah (one of he owners) from the moment I made our last minute reservation until even after we left when she drove out of her way to the PO to send off my glasses which I had forgotten made us feel welcomed and so at home! I must say we stayed mostly in our room, totally relaxing, except for a trip to the main house for an incredibly, delicious breakfast. Mine was even made specifically for me as I eat non-dairy and gluten-free. We stayed in the East Room which was huge, with understated elegance and a monstrous tub/shower. Those who have difficulty lifting their legs high may not wish to choose this room as there are very high sides, but for me, I loved it! We will plan to come here again next summer although with better planning will make it an even longer stay! Thank you! read more

This heaven in the redwoods has driven me to create a yelp account just so I can sing its praises! After some heinous weeks at work, myself, my fiancé and our little dog were in desperate need of some r&r. Enter the gem of redwood croft b&b! We were instantly welcomed by the kind owners, Sitah and Dale, and their sweet pups. Allowing our little lady to roam free and make herself at home was so unexpected and fantastic. Normally most b&b's and hotels have such strict stipulations on what your fur baby can and can't do that you almost make yourself crazy over it! The small touches around the entire property were extra special and so thoughtful. Did I mention there is a trampoline?! Fantastic for big kids too! We stayed in the humongous east room that had the largest soaking tub I have ever seen...truly relaxing and serene. We just came back from our 2 nights stay at the Redwood Croft and it was the most AMAZING experience EVER!!! Sitah and Dale were wonderful, they were very warm and welcoming, even their dogs - Spinner and Bella welcomed us with kisses and waging tails. In fact, Bella would come into our little garden area as soon as she knows that we are awake, and would play with us and our dogs. Usually hotels or B&B have very strict policy of what dogs can or cannot do, but our dogs were allowed to do anything. They were able to roam around the property freely and without leashes, they were even allowed to sleep in the bed with us!! My dogs got so comfortable after the first day that they would just go in and out of the main house and the kitchen themselves, basically thinking that it is their home. I've never really been a nature type of a girl, but I absolutely fell in love with Redwood Croft that I definitely see myself going back every year. And have I mentioned their home-cooked breakfast? It was seriously the BEST breakfast we've ever had. Thank you so much Sitah, Dale, Spinner and Bella for such a wonderful time! You guys will definitely see us again soon :) read more

My wife and stayed 2 days at Redwood Croft and were very happy with the accommodations, service and food. Everyone treated us like royalty. Nestled in the Redwood Forrest, the scenery is heavenly. It is quiet, restful and restorative. Sitah, the hostess, is a kind, thoughtful person who is friendly and respectful. She is a FANTASTIC cook and her biscuits are out of this world!!!! The breakfasts are superb and delicious. Dale, her husband, quietly works behind the scenes to make sure everything operates to perfection. The gentlemen that assist with upkeep and cleaning are discreet, efficient and thorough. The house dogs, Bella and Spinner, are friendly and quiet. They are like service dogs and know when to keep their distance, but will come for a pat if welcomed and invited. I have stayed at many B&B's, but Redwood Croft is now our favorite. It made our 40th Anniversary very special. We look forward to future stays. read more

Stranded in SC after we had made reservation. They never showed up- My husband and I decided to go to this place after reading all the wonderful reviews to get a weekend away. He called Wednesday and after hearing about all the bells and whistles, said he wanted to reserve the "Cottage Room" and that he would call back if we decided to spend $100 dollars more for the biggest room but to put us down for the cottage. He told her we would be arriving around late afternoon and the lady told him that she would "pencil him in" and that our arrival time would be totally fine since they would be coming in from out of town. After talking we decided not to upgrade and stick with the cottage room we had already reserved. So we did not call back to upgrade. Come Friday, we call again that morning to notify that we would be there around 5pm. The daughter who answered the phone said she would call and let her parents know and that it would be fine. We drive up the mountain which is quite an ordeal-30 minutes from any sort of grocery store, restaurant or any business for that matter. We were under the impression after talking with the lady that it would be a quick "10 minute drive down the mountain." It wasnt. We arrive and the place was tucked away in the forest. I was a bit concerned because I had no idea that we would have needed to bring our own lunch, snacks, drinks, dinner, and pretty much anything else you wanted to eat other than the complementary breakfast. Definitely would have been helpful information to know seeing as I am 7 months pregnant and need to eat. Again, we thought it would be a much closer drive. We were still excited to stay however because we so badly needed a break from normal life. We walk in and the house is completely open but no body was there. We check the rest of the house to ensure we weren't missing anyone but no one was around- just a bunch of cats. We didnt know what to think so we called the number we had and no one answered. We head back down 30 minutes and grab dinner. We call at 6pm- still no answer. We called after dinner around 7- still no answer. We called again almost every 30 minutes until 9pm and no one answered. We were now stuck in Santa Cruz with our dog and no place to stay. Again I am 7 months pregnant and now it is 8pm and we need to find a place to stay that is also dog friendly. I dont think I can accurately describe how upset we were when we made 10 phone calls to places stranded in Santa Cruz hoping they have a room open. We ended up having to stay at a motel because these people at the Redwood Croft were not there!!!! After being livid, I start to think that maybe something happened like they had a heart attack and were there all along. I get concerned so I think to call the cops to do a safety check but decide to call one more time. So come 9:30 pm I call and someone FINALLY answers. This older gentlemen answers and I tell him how we had reservations for today in the late afternoon and we showed up and no one was there and now it is 9:30pm and we are in a motel because they never showed up to their own bed and breakfast. The man was EXTREMELY rude and would not let me finish what I was saying.He even raises his voice at me. He then passes the phone to his wife and I give the phone to my husband. My husband VERY respectfully tells her that she had told him that she penciled us in and then never showed up. She tells him that he "assumed" and that this was somehow OUR fault. She never took responsibility or even apologized!! My husband and I could not believe the TERRIBLE customer service. Not only were they not apologizing but they were blaming us! Apparently penciling in to her does not mean making a reservation. If you call and schedule a hair appointment for a certain time and they say "okay ill pencil you in." That means its done. I guess not to her. These people were so rude, so inconsiderate, and unapologetic for the trouble they put us through. I mean we spent hours trying to find a place to stay because they werent there. We were in a parking lot with our dog trying to figure this out. It had me in tears at one point. And then to have her blame us was the cherry on top. The next day she called and left a message that this was a misunderstanding- still not taking full responsibility, and does offer a free two night stay for everything. This was NOT a misunderstanding on our part. I overheard the entire conversation my husband had. This was them not remembering or getting the information down correctly. We did appreciate the offer for the stay but will not be taking this offer because they did not assume responsibility and were incredibly rude the night before to us. This place has horrible customer service. Be sure if you stay here that you call several times in order to confirm your reservation because I would hate for this to happen to someone else. Apparently if something goes wrong...it's YOUR fault. read more
