We arrived on what had already been a tough day, but the moment we stepped inside, everything shifted. The selection alone is incredible, tables and cases filled with stunning specimens, from deep blue kyanite to vibrant tangerine quartz and beautiful geodes. Outside, the yard is a treasure trove in itself, with bins of rose quartz and countless stones just waiting to be discovered. It truly feels like a hands-on adventure. What made the visit unforgettable, though, were the guys working there. They were genuinely kind, welcoming, and incredibly informative. They took the time to talk with us, answer questions, and share their knowledge in a way that made the experience feel personal and meaningful, not rushed or transactional. Their passion for what they do is obvious, and it's contagious. They turned what started as a difficult day into a full-blown treasure hunt for our family. By the time we left, we weren't just carrying stones; we were carrying a sense of joy, curiosity, and connection. We left completely satisfied and truly thankful for the experience. If you're anywhere near Humboldt County, this place is absolutely worth a stop. It's not just about what you find, it's about how you feel while you're there.

The woman manning the museum was very friendly, and gave us wonderful detail on the museum and its history. There are a lot of fascinating historical newspapers of famous dates or events. I was able to read about early efforts to protect nearby Redwood groves. We liked the display of 1924 hit songs - 100 years ago. Another highlights events from this date in history. Famous locals, old typewriters and adding machines, tools - a lot is packed into here. You can also go through the nearby caboose. Enjoyable stop.

To my surprise part of it had been renovated into an art studio and a lovely one at that. The new owner wonderfully showed me the studio, which was filled with a plethora of locally made items such as scarves, teddy bears, doll houses and Christmas ornaments. I ended up purchasing a gorgeous ornament for under ten dollars made from the type of the original Ferndale newspaper and marveling at the change that had been made to my old home. If you're in the area, stop on by, it's right down the way from No Brand!

The gardens are named after Willis Dean Hadley, a Ferndale benefactor, and someone deeply committed to reserving native plants. I had thought maybe this was his Garden, since maintained after his passing, but no, it was a community project several years in the making. Although quite small, built on a former vacant lot, there are unique nooks and crannies everywhere that give you pause - you can spend a while here. Hadley had a whimsical sense of humor has seen by the Victorian dollhouse and other quirky touches here. Native plant enthusiasts especially will appreciate the wide diversity and beauty of natives on display. The miniature Fern Canyon is amazing. All very photogenic.
