    Christine and our wonderful doulas

Christine and her team were God sent! I can't stress enough how professional and attentive she was during my first birth. My baby girl was determined to be here sooner than we had expected. With her professional team and her knowledge I felt so at ease. My husband received his baby girl and until this day it's a memorable experience he will never forget. Christine is not just a midwife to us she has become family to us. We are forever thankful for this wonderful experience we had with you.

Christine has been such an answered prayer, and blessing to me and my family. After finding out I was expecting our 4th child I started looking for a midwife in our area. I was searching for a midwife who I can trust, and one that supported informed consent, autonomy and physiological birth. Christine checked all those boxes for me. She supported me and my decisions during pregnancy and beyond. I appreciated that she encouraged me to pray for the birth I desire and didn't shut me down when I would express my hopes for my birth although my hopes were very specific. Every appointment was very thorough, and she always provided solutions for any concerns or questions that came up. The family centered care that Christine follows was such an amazing experience as well, the children were able to be involved during visits and they loved it! It was an amazing experience overall. So thankful

Sometime around 3-4am, baby#3 has graced us with her presence!

Christine has been such a blessing to our family!! We first met her as our birth assistant back in 2019 before the world lost its mind to CoViD! I was pregnant with our first born. Even before he was conceived, I began to research and educate myself on everything natural/home birth related. I am NOT a western med or hospital oriented person and I had strong convictions against giving birth in a hospital considering the ridiculous policies that were being enforced for Mama's and their families during that time. My birth plan was to have a blissful water (birth tub) experience and I knew I would need a skilled midwife by my side. Christine was a vast resource of homeopathic and natural remedies for everything pregnancy and birth related. From the very first time I met her, she and I vibed well and I knew I would be safe in her care! Christine is a professional and kind caregiver. She treats you with the utmost respect and even through my 3rd pregnancy, she would always check to make sure it was ok to touch my body before performing any type of exam. She truly embodies everything midwifery represents and its ancient history of honoring the mother's wishes/space, autonomy and divine timing between mother/baby! Thankfully, I was able to have Christine by my side for 2/3 of my babies' births and even though she wasn't present for my second birth, she still cared for my son and I during our most sacred post partum period!! My family and I are absolutely grateful for Christine's patience with us, loving and generous care and most of all, for her becoming a friend after 3 babies with her by my side!!

Nothing better than getting in bed with my other babies after birth rather than a 2 day hospital stay.

I cannot recommend Christine enough for your home birth care! Christine was my midwife for my third baby (second home birth) in February 2023. Christine is so invested in her clients and wants you to have the birth YOU want. For this pregnancy, I really wanted a relatively hands-off approach and to not be pressured into decision making, but still desired to have a medical professional present and to be monitored throughout the pregnancy. Christine was the perfect match for me. Before ever offering any testing, advice, or intervention, she would always ask, "how do you feel about this? What is your gut telling you?" She genuinely cared about ME and what I wanted. She always answered my phone calls when I had questions or concerns and was flexible in scheduling appointments around my work schedule. When labor began, roughly two weeks before my estimated due date, Christine responded with such calmness, but understood the urgency, as I have a history of precipitous labors. She made it to my house in under one hour. She brought such a gentle, peaceful presence to my birth space. I labored with my husband in our bathroom and she was close enough to be accessible without making herself KNOWN - she really just blended in to the space. When I was in transition and doubting my abilities to have an unmedicated home birth, she was the encouraging sense of comfort I desperately needed. When my baby was born into my own hands - this was very important to me, to catch my own baby - Christine observed quietly and assured me everything was as it should be and he was transitioning wonderfully. In the immediate postpartum, Christine was quiet and careful to not disturb our bonding time. She engaged with my older children in such a loving, maternal way. There was no rush to complete any tasks, exams, or paperwork. She let my family set the pace. Christine remained available to me in the days and weeks that followed the birth for any and all questions I had. Christine gave my husband and I the confidence we needed to have a beautiful home birth and empowered us to make decisions that felt right for our family. I will never stop singing her praises and referring my friends to her. Thank you Christine for all your love and care. Warmly, Lauren

My overall experience at Birthways left me feeling neglected and abandoned in the process…read more This was my first pregnancy and prenatal care was okay. There really wasn't any education on the actual laboring process which left me pretty unprepared. leading up to my birth I started to feel anxious as I had connected with some midwife's and not others and when it's time for labor you get whatever random midwife is on call. A week before I was due they rushed for me to meet a midwife who was visiting town. Overall I had the feeling that they were very understaffed and had tons of clients. I had specifically asked the owner "what happens if you have to go to the hospital?" The answer was clear - we come with you to make sure your checked in but we don't stay the whole time , the student chimed in that she likes to stay for the whole birth because she gets invested in the moms. Well, the day that my water broke, the amniotic fluid had meconium. I called the midwife on-call who was the midwife I only met once previously. She told me the baby was in distress without any explanation or information and to go straight to the hospital, she would not come with me. There was some guidance on where to park and then that was it. I didn't hear from her again until a text 24 hours later asking how it was going. And then never heard from her again. Done. My labor was difficult at the hospital with nurses pushing all various medication, wanting to rush the process. It was the hospital nightmare that I was always avoiding. After pitocin was pushed on me I still labored for 30 hours, barely dodged a c section, my baby landed in niccu for 3 days, and I had been completely paralyzed in one leg and in a wheelchair from an epidural injury that took months before walking normally again, It was scary. I never heard from Birthways again until 3 weeks later they called telling me I should come in for my postpartum checkup. This was never communicated to me during the entire prenatal care that there would be postpartum check ups. I thought they had finished their services with me. I was desperate for an assessment of my situation and to check on my stitches(from tearing). They called to cancel the appointment I was needing, and luckily I got a spot because someone canceled. I arrived using a walker and couldn't even hold my baby. The woman who would've been my midwife was shocked and asked what happened to me. There was some sympathy but afterwards she never informed the owner of my situation nor did anyone ever bother to check about my hospital birth records. When I came in for the second check up weeks later, the owner was surprised to hear my birth story and injuries. There is an obvious lack of communication between everyone. Finally they emailed the hospital to get my birth report. Of course, you sign paperwork that you will never be able to get a refund even if you don't birth there and they do nothing, they will keep your money. During one of the most vulnerable processes of my life, I felt completely neglected by this business. And that's the vibe you get that it's a business, a place to make money. Choosing Birthways was a mistake and i'm not the only one traumatized by this, my mother was confused about what kind of care they were supposed to offer, and my husband felt like it was a waste of thousands of dollars, feeling that the service offered was nowhere near worth what we paid. While I was pregnant, I deposited $250 for nitrous. If you don't make an early deposit and decide that you underestimated and need nitrous while giving birth, the price jumps to $500. That just shows the intentions of Birthways and how it takes advantage. Because I never gave birth at Birthways or used nitrous I was expecting to have my money back. This was not an easy process, taking seven months before I finally saw it back and I had to call every couple weeks, text, email. The communication is totally off with this business as is their billing practices. In all, I would not recommend Birthways unless you know your going to have an easy birth that requires little attention and care. It may be the only center in town, but not the only option.

At no point did the birth center inform me that this was an emergency. I told Christina that I would go to St. Pete, which was the doctor's office that I had previously been to. She told me to go to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, because it was closer to birthways, even though I lived in St. Pete. I didn't understand the relationship between the hospital and birthways. My husband and I were cognizant of not going into the ER and asked for the OB floor. The hospital and Birthways both failed to inform us that we were in the ER and that was the only way I would get a sonogram. Neither birthways or the hospital told me that this would be billed as an emergency room visit, resulting in a significant and unexpected medical bill. My sonogram and my baby's heart beat were perfect. The hospital wanted to induce me ONLY because I was late. They did not have any rooms available and they said they couldn't take me, because it was "not an emergency". I had to sign an AMA to leave and go to St. Pete hospital. I later spoke with a lawyer who said what birthways did was wrong. They were misrepresenting what the sonogram visit was. I was told that this situation was avoidable had the birth center informed me of the financial implications. If I needed to be induced, because I was late, then I would have been admitted into the hospital and not an ER visit. The whole thing was a waste of time and money. When I called to discuss with Christina, she was very defensive. She did ask if she could help me with an appeal, but I had already done that and it didn't work. Christina also said she didn't tell us to go for a sonogram and that she told us to go for an evaluation. My husband and I both heard her say "sonogram". The lawyer said her wording makes no difference and that she was still not providing necessary information. Christina also said that this was in the paperwork. I read every document two times over and saw nothing in the paperwork explaining that referrals will go through the ER. I want others to know that if you're referred out by this center--especially late in pregnancy--you should ask whether the visit will be considered "emergency" and what billing codes may apply. The care I received here had some positives, but the lack of transparency around this referral led to a costly surprise and ongoing stress during postpartum recovery. Make sure you ask all the right questions--they won't always offer that information up front.

I started calling home birth midwives for doula referrals, and I was so lucky to connect with Charlie. She truly brought a piece of the home birth experience into the hospital room. Charlie was a fierce advocate, not only for me, but also an incredible source of support for my husband. She brought a sense of peace and calm to what felt like a very unknown and overwhelming situation. I felt completely safe with her by my side. Charlie helped us talk through every decision, making sure we felt informed and confident in our choices. Her support didn't end after the birth either, she consistently checked in postpartum and continued to care for our whole family. I truly can't recommend Charlie enough. She is an amazing, steady, and calming presence. Whether you're planning a home birth or just looking for strong, compassionate birth support, you are in the very best hands with Charlie. I informed them I would be transferring care at 32 weeks. I told the owner that I would pay for any prenatal appointments I went to, but she made a bill with fees I was not aware of. My invoice was the exact amount I prepaid which is very suspicious. The invoice even said my $500 deposit was a charge for some reason instead of applied to my balance like the contract states. The invoice seemed to be made in a rush and its purpose to zero out my account so they could keep my money. I will add my entire experience after court. In the meantime, if you choose this midwifery, ask them to outline their fees and what you owe after every appointment to avoid this. Overall disappointed with Charlie's (owner) handling of this issue.

She's training a student Midwife Nicole who is exceptional and several doulas right now. When I got pregnant with our second I knew I wanted to have a natural birth with a midwife and was lucky enough to come across FBC. They do fill up quickly because they can only take so many patients at one time. They have two birth suites that are very calming with a giant tub, bed, and any labor tool you would need to get through a natural birth. They even offer Nitrous Oxide as a coping mechanism if desired. There is so much autonomy to going through FBC for your birth and you will never feel forced into anything. You dictate how you want your birth experience to go and that was exactly the case for me. I made it to 41 weeks and 1 day and was losing my mind, Dawn was there for me every step of the way. She was so great at calming me down, making great recommendations and truly cared deeply about the prep work I put in for labor beforehand and my prenatal care. They care so much about your diet, prenatal supplements, health, exercise, things you can do to prepare your body for a natural labor both mentally and physically, as well as your immediate care after birth. I felt like my birth team had my back and was there for me every step of the way. I ended up having Dawn break my water at 41 weeks + 1 day and my labor lasted for 5 hours. I pushed for 2 minutes and our little man was here. I truly think a lot of this had to do with Dawn + her team's recommendations and the prep work I did beforehand. I would highly recommend going to FBC! They will empower you to have the birth of your dreams and give you all of the tools you need to do so! They do work with insurance carriers which made this even more affordable for us but they do payment plans so you are paid in full by the time you give birth and don't have to worry about that right after. The office staff is great and were amazing to work with for paperwork, scheduling and insurance!
