I miss the paper ads and coupons as well as personalized service from someone stationed in cosmetics, but this store has a lot going for it. All but one employee I have ever come across at this Walgreens have been extremely helpful and friendly. They open the second front register when the front starts to form a line. I've also checked out in the pharmacy before. Even though I'm not used to pharmacies which completely close during lunch, when they've been open, they have always been cheerfully useful regarding questions. This Walgreens location is also a local drop-off for FedEx. You just take your pre labeled packages to the photo department, and a Walgreens employee will take your info in order to text you a receipt with tracking. On my most recent visit, a most pleasant employee at the front saw me with a box and was kind enough to take care of it for me right them and there saving me time. I feel secure leaving a package in their care. This Walgreens store is always clean and fun to browse. Sometimes you can find some good deals on things like notebooks, saline nasal spray, stuffed animals, candy, locally themed t-shirts and sweatshirts... Their hair care and seasonal aisles are always worth a look. You can even find quite a few groceries here. Walgreens also still carries tobacco products unlike a certain competitor. If you like candy, take a look at what's in the display on the left side of the checkout counter for the featured specials of the month. Four stars mainly for customer service and cleanliness.

The staff are often welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The pharmacy is usually efficient and attentive. All and all, if one needs the services of a drug store; this facility is a solid option.

Harvesting Capabilities - Me meeting with the board of Harvesting Capabilities in Peru, Indiana

It was open the past two trips I made, and I read it was supposed to be open today on Google, so I didn't call ahead... That was a mistake, even though they don't answer the phone more often than they actually DO... I really didn't want to haul everything back in the house and possibly wrestle over emotions and decision making again if the items were back in my home. After a quick Google search, I found Harvesting Capabilities. I called and they were open. According to Google, they are open 10-4 M-F with the exception of holidays such as upcoming Labor Day. I didn't get a look at the entire store but stepped in the open back door to speak with a quite friendly staff member who kindly directed me to pull up to the front of the driveway on the right of the building near the garage. She was exceptionally more pleasant than the woman on the phone and the lady who helped carry one box from the vehicle to their garage. From what I saw, the inside was packed. It seemed like a semi small shop. It is adjoined with another entity which appeared to be a medical supply with the same name of which I know nothing first hand. It appears to have once been a ranch style home, possibly a duplex. Among the items outside their front garage door on this nice day, I spotted some good deals on vintage kitchen chairs. "$3" marked out with "$4" over them. They wouldn't work for me, and since I planned on only purging today, I left empty-handed. They were definitely tempting though. The garage floor was PACKED with bags and boxes of donations. I'm not sure if that was all from today alone. That'd be insane if it were, but on the other hand, since that other place is unreliable and was abruptly closed, who knows. The concern I had was that the open dumpster out back was FILLED to the top with what appeared to be clothing. Now, I don't know if there was something wrong with those items, but it's disheartening to see all of that in the trash and not used or at least recycled. It does give me pause about the fate of the items I donated. That's out of my hands now, but it has me second guessing donating to this place again. That leads me to wonder... If they discard clothing, are there other donations in the garbage? Do they recycle the bags and boxes? I can only hope that the items I gave are sold, used, and cherished by their next owner, as some of these were highly sentimental things I really struggled over letting go. I am guessing that the thrift shop sales benefit the disabled somehow from what I had a glance at here in another review, but I'm not sure. This review could have easily been a three star or higher had it not been for that sad dumpster. Yet again, the town of Peru falls short in quality and selection as far as businesses go. This area is not the pillar of environmentalism in the least. I'm hopeful but deeply disappointed. I will be forever haunted wondering if my things are in the trash now.

My receipt as well as the employee shirts do have "Save-A-Lot" on them. The large carts outside the entrance don't fit in the checkouts, so get a red plastic one inside instead. I hadn't been in here for over two years. It was never my go-to as it's nothing like other Save-A-Lot stores I've used in years past in other places. This store never had a super great selection, which kept dwindling, but it's far worse now. The entire refrigerator section designated for meat on the back wall was empty. The open waist high freezers were all covered with cardboard. I only saw a small selection of refrigerated and frozen items in upright cases with doors. The lettuce selection wasn't appealing to me, but I grabbed a package of Romaine. Silly me. Once I opened it at home, I realized it was wilted and warm. I was wanting to replace wilted lettuce I already received from another store last week through Instacart. Facepalm! $3.99 for this warm, wilted Romaine. $3.00 for a bag of sub par and extremely salty Mikesell's potato chips. That brand sure has gone downhill. Many of the chips are green or burnt. In fact, doing a quick stroll through the store, even a lot of cans of beans were high at $1.49. That's higher than Kroger and ALDI! Especially for no name beans. Everything I saw was overpriced. Save-A-Lot is not a place for savings anymore, that's for sure. The checker who waited on me was extremely pleasant. I feel badly that she had to work under the conditions in there. All but one of their air conditioning systems were broken, hence the empty meat area. It all spoiled and was removed. It turned out that the cardboard was covering the freezer items to try to prevent them from spoiling as well. I'm glad I didn't notice those contained food as I don't think it'd be safe for consumption. This lettuce is iffy as it is. No wonder it felt so warm in that store. Things happen, but I'm of the opinion that the store should have been closed and most of the perishable items thrown out. It might improve once the air is fixed. I mean, it is a heat advisory day. It's well over 100 degrees factoring in the heat index. However, that issue aside, the prices and selection aren't anything to make me want to return. I, honestly, only went in there because I was already in Broadway Plaza conducting other business. The checker deserves five stars and a better place of employment. Heck, a fan at the very least. The store: well, they earned that full one star today.
