Two months have passed and I decided it was time to post my review as the silence indicates a lack of concern with customer satisfaction. I contacted Five Star to paint my ceilings and doors. The salesperson was at our home for over an hour for a quote and made my partner and I sit through an unnecessary presentation about the "integrity" of the company. He bragged that the company "is the most expensive in the area and with good reason as they are the best." I wish "the best" had been my experience. The day of the job, only one person spoke English and he left at noon. I couldn't communicate with any of the staff at my house. The painters plugged a microwave into an extension cord in my driveway so they could heat up lunch. I wouldn't have minded if they asked, but no one could communicate with me. When they removed the tape, they ripped off paint from a ceiling fan, decor from shiplap, and pulled up carpet. There was paint splatter everywhere, including on furniture, and they left part of the foyer ceiling unfinished. The project manager was overwhelmed and had too many projects going in different directions. It took him two weeks to get back to me to resolve all of the issues. (Not his fault; he is overscheduled.) A cutomer service rep called to ask about my experience. She seemed to care and said the owner would call me back in a week. She lied. No one cared and who called me back? The project manager. He asked why I was unhappy with him. That was awkward. The owner called after 3 weeks. I called him back. He never returned my call. I am new to IN and wish I would have done more research before paying 5,000 for ceilings and doors to be painted on just one floor.

Before the work started Josh, our project manager, did another inspection and walk through with the painting team. Upon completion of the work Josh did another thorough inspection with us to make sure we were happy with the work. We were very impressed with the work and how much the company does to insure customer satisfaction. Will definitely hire them for our interior work.

We…read moremanage a portfolio of vintage 1930s and 1950s apartment buildings in Seattle and he has painted the exteriors of our properties for over 30 years and in the winter months he would paint the interiors of the apartments. He is the only painter that I know that can cut a straight line with oil paint and its truly a straight line with no use of cheater tapes like (gorilla tape). Dave and his crew were fine. Would I recommend them? Maybe. It depends on what you need to get…read moredone. When he was here, his painting was gorgeous, and he really knows his craft. However, he seems to struggle with having a good crew, and scheduling with him was very difficult. I never knew when he would be at the house to complete the job, and he seemed to squeeze my house in amongst many other jobs as he could get to me. This led to an awkward dance of having rooms half-painted in our house, and needing to have furniture out of the way for weeks as his crew came in and did partial rooms when they could. I was finally able to pin him down to a few days after many phone calls and emails (progressively getting more demanding, as I really wanted this painting to be over!). The rooms he painted, he painted well. But getting him here and scheduling him was difficult. Here's the thing, though - Dave recognized that the job was tricky, and he gave us a discount for the inconvenience of having a house in the mid-stages of painting for weeks. When we originally booked with him, we had planned for 2-3 days in mid-October and the house would be done. The house was just finished a few days ago. So, I'm a bit torn - Dave is a professional and recognized that he didn't deliver on his promises. When he did paint, the painting was done very well. However, the tricky timeline combined with the fact that the painting today isn't even quite finished (there's a small wall upstairs that was skipped, and part of the staircase is only half-painted -we're just going to finish it ourselves, though, we're tired of painters in our house), I would not recommend him wholeheartedly. If you had to paint a single room or two in your house, definitely call Dave. If you have a bigger job than that, like mine (an entire house), I would not recommend him. He's friendly, and does a great job, but his company is busier than it can handle, which leads to issues with completion.

It peeled within 3 months of his application. He obviously doesn't have a clue on how to properly refinish wood decks or the correct products to use in this application. On top of this he did NOTHING to rectify the situation. What a waste of money! If you choose to hire him, get everything in writing because he does not guarantee or stand behind his work.

We refuse to "chase down" an estimate as we had two other estimates to consider. We are extremely pleased with the company we chose, and they went above and beyond to assure our satisfaction. Geyer Decorating, LLC of Niles MI has done work for us in the past and did not disappoint this time.
