Excellent little cafe nestled right on the Avon River across the street from the hospital. This…read morecafe became a little escape for me as my mom required unexpected surgery while we were visiting from the States. It was always very busy but I always somehow managed to grab a table on the patio. Most of the outdoor seating is covered but there were a few that weren't. I happily took one in the sun as I was growing tired of the hospital ward staleness. You order at the counter, get a number and have a seat. They have a large selection of pastries and pre made sandwiches as well as a large sit down menu. Soups, salads, sandwiches, fish. All kinds of good stuff. I didn't eat breakfast there but they have pancakes, eggs, etc. Food and drinks are brought out to you. Service was always friendly and very prompt. I was regularly surprised at how quickly my food came out despite how busy it was. Lamb burger was delicious. Freshest feta I've ever had and the beet compote type thing on it was delish. I could have eaten that alone as a side dish. My one gripe was that it also had mayo and tomato on it which wasn't stated on the menu. I hate when places don't list all the ingredients they plan to put on my sandwich. I HATE mayo so that was a bummer. Luckily it was mostly on the lettuce so I was able to get it mostly off :) Another day I had the fish and chips. It was very clear that fish was probably swimming this morning. Yum yum yum fresh! My favorite by far was the chicken, pesto and Brie sandwich. Chicken was grilled perfectly and that pesto, oh that pesto! It puts other pestos to shame. Easily the best and most fresh pesto I've ever had. Swoon indeed. The coffees are great. Iced Americano and flat white both lovely. Wonderful place with wonderful staff and excellent food.

All delicious. I particularly like the seeded biscuits that came with the hummus. We washed that down with a nice Sauvignon, leaving just enough room for a passion fruit mousse {vegan, GF, DF}. A lovely meal, only marred by the ever-increasing volume from neighbouring groups, which by 7.15 had reached the shouting stage, to the point that any music being played was totally redundant! So yes, l lovely food, but try to get a table in the restaurant, not the bar!

The corn fritters on the other hand should never have been served. They were burned black, and one taste was enough to inform that they were not meant to be that way. Three stars because I informed the server when our plates were picked up that while the fish was great, the fritters were burnt and inedible - server promised to "inform the kitchen". On paying the bill I was thanked for my candidness in sharing my comments. But I was still charged full price for all the items on my bill. There was no accommodation for serving me effectively a $43 main course that was less than two-thirds edible. An unfortunate showing for what looked to be a promising restaurant.

It was more of an undone type of avocado toast with seasonings, poached eggs, tomatoes, and some sort of tangy butter or aioli, I'm not sure. It was just so pleasing to the eye and tasty! I would recommend, it seemed to be a busy place with a few tables inside and some outside seating. Also a great spot on regent street next to other shops.
