The University of Winnipeg is located in downtown Winnipeg, on the north side of Portage Avenue, across from the CBC building. It is one of two major universities in Winnipeg. The University of Manitoba is the other one that is in the southern part of the city. I was a master's dropout from the U of M. I know its campus a lot better than the U of W. I have two experiences visiting the U of W. The first time was meeting up with a friend who was teaching a course. I got to see where he was lecturing. I was fairly straightforward to find places on campus back then because it was a smaller campus. I also had a job interview to work in IT services at the U of W. I remember the interview going well. Sadly, I didn't get the job. Instead, I ended up at IBM a few blocks down at the Air Canada building. Not too shabby! Last week, I was being a tourist and noticed the Buhler Centre for the first time. It is a rather large building that occupies the old United Army Surplus store's location. It's wild seeing such a dramatic change on this corner. The U of W campus has been expanding for a while. Buhler Centre is diagonally across from the main U of W site. This building houses the Faculty of Business and Economics, as well as Professional, Applied, and Continuing Education (PACE) I was stopped in traffic in front of the main campus. It was nice seeing a bunch of flags to support pride in the city. I remember Lloyd Axworthy becoming president of the U of W in 2004. He held this position for a decade. He represented Winnipeg South Centre, which is where I lived, as a Member of Parliament for two decades before retiring in 2000. It was nice seeing the U of W and learning about Buhler Centre. (295)

POOR excuse of an "educational institution" How is there not more oversight?…read more I took the 2 year applied skills counselling program. The program is run very poorly. In our first year: they didn't give a single grade on any feed back on ANY work until at least December. Our instructor was barred from being a counsellor, had 21 counts or so of professional misconduct and she was teaching ETHICS. Instructors for classes were chosen incredibly last minute so students were in limbo as to when the next class would start. (As though we don't have jobs, kids and lives of our own) We are end of June, there has been no communication as to whether we will have a practicum in our last year, complete our last class or if we will finish. Pandemic aside, there is little to no communication or consideration of students. Apparently they think we can wait around then jump at the drop of a hat. This is just a small fraction of issues. I've gone to U of M and loved it! No issues there. Save your money and go some place reputable, unless you want to "buy" your certification.

The course teachers are knowledgeable in their profession and the industry. Guests are brought in from different areas of the industry to help supplement lessons. Panache is also very involved in events around the community with Talent searches, Bridal Shows and other fashion shows that are put on in the city. The president of the agency, Jane Campbell truly cares about each of her models - not only their success but also their well-being. She is extremely professional and a great mentor. If you are looking to be a student or have an event that you need models for...no questions. It's Panache.

The facilities are amazing, very top of the line and spotlessly clean. There are options for privacy in the changeroom and in the showers, which I appreciated (shower stalls are used and not a communal space). There is even a machine to wring out your bathing suit after a trip to the pool. The JCC is filled with little niceties like this. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pool is a saltwater pool with a very cool children's area, and the temperature of the pool is perfect. I really like Schmoozer's Deli that is on the campus and right on your way to the gym (perhaps too convenient, it's very hard to resist their delicious carrot cake!). The Deli is a Dairy restaurant, which means they do not carry meat. They are Kosher, and no outside food can be eaten on campus. The quesadillas are especially yummy, but everything there is good in my experience. Even the coffee is decent, which is usually rare for a smaller restaurant that doesn't specialize in coffee. They have a ton of programs avail from cultural to learning to athletic for all ages. The Berney Theatre is located there, Gray Academy (Jewish private school for K-12), Aleph Bet Daycare, and a library. There is also a Holocaust Memorial and Jewish Child and Family Services are located there, too, the total area being called the Asper Community Campus that contains the JCC. There is ample free parking, and you can get a parking pass for parking closer to the JCC with your membership. My only critique is that their inclusion services are not the greatest. My daughter has a disability, and we found the inclusion programs offered were for much older individuals. We attempted swimming lessons for her and it was a disaster, the staff didn't seem to be equipped to deal with a non-neurotypical child. There are private lessons, but we found these to be too expensive.

The large playground is very engaging for students of all abilities, which includes a new oodle swing which is suitable for people with physical limitations, and a new slide is on its way as their parent council raised funds to purchase last year. They also have raised garden beds that the students plant different plants in . The staff go above and beyond to engage their students by providing free after school clubs throughout the year. Champlain School teaches the 7 Grandfather teaching to all students and teach their students to be proud of their cultural backgrounds, and inclusive to all. They even hold community pot luck dinners about 2x a year. This school has a free breakfast program for all students who want breakfast, if the student is late they r welcome to have breakfast during morning recess. Students r also offered a fruit or vegetable snack every morning (courtesy of the Canadian Nutrition Council). Parents are welcomed into the school everyday where they could spend time in a staffed Parent room where there are resources available for them to access, or just to connect with other parents and have a cup of coffee. The parent room also offers different activities for parents with preschoolers who need some adult interaction, thats been a lifesaver for some Moms. Champlain students produce amazing work, some of which was recognized by the Canadian Rights Museum in Winnipeg! Awesome! The school is very secure with a 'buzz in' system and security cameras throughout, including outside. Keep up the good work Champlain!!
