Virginia Visitor's Center told me about this place & it wasn't too far off my path. So glad I stopped here on the way back to CLT! Red Hill General Store is 1/2 Hardware Store, 1/2 Virginia Gifts, 1/2 Country Items, 1/2 Snacks, etc (but I'm not good with math!) Huge selection of pocket knives. To us, it felt like this place was in the middle of nowhere. We had not heard of it before we visited, and I'm very glad we decided to go inside, because this is a very cool store - almost magical. The exterior is rustic, yet welcoming. The interior is bright and fresh and open. There is a nostalgic feel to everything, even though the store is stocked with modern items. The staff is friendly, and fun. There were very large selections of candy and jams and toys, all at reasonable prices. I paid for an item through their website using a different billing and shipping address. They declined the transaction and said I had to pay by transfer, which I did. Two weeks later the charge appears on my card statement for the same amount with "Red Hill General Store" quoted. The refund has been refused and I am now being ignored after being sent long emails full of excuses. I am trying to recover the funds through my bank and am seeking legal advice to sue this business. No idea how they have these ratings when they are blatantly committing fraud against clients who share banking details with them. read more

So I wasn't able to purchase my All American Pressure canner from Red Hill because of the long backlog of orders (not their fault) but I ended up inheriting an old 921. Being in good shape yet outdated, I reached out to Red Hill for some advice and replacement parts. I reached out to Ref Hill just before the holidays (a very busy time for them) and eventually I got a great response from Erica giving me all the information I was looking for and had several good suggestions to bring my canner up to date. Unfortunately it's not common these days for busy companies to take the time to help people who haven't spent a dime with them. Never used this site...for anything. Did a GOOGLE search for a 40 year old Mirro Pressure canner gasket. Their information that came up for a Mirro 22 Qt. Canner had a side note to order a different one than Amazon and Mirro said. This canner is a pre-1986 model. Ordered it on Sunday evening-it was in my mailbox Wednesday. Poor Online service. They never sent the item after a week. When I emailed them in regards to the status, they stated that they needed my ID emailed to them. I have never been asked for that when purchasing an item online w/ my credit card, which is supposedly "secure." They wanted me to email it to a different email not provided on their website. When I told them I didn't feel comfortable with this process and for them to cancel the order, they didn't apologize for the changes in their process that I was not aware of because no where on their website states it. They just said, "Okay , thanks for letting me know. We will go ahead and cancel your order for you today. My 16-qt pressure canner has a new life! It's been sitting on a shelf for nearly 15 years because I couldn't find a gasket to fit. Years ago, I tried one purchased locally and another that the Mirro people told me would fit but they both leaked and made it impossible to reach pressure. This website recommended a different gasket entirely noting that the earlier canners of the same model number took a different gasket. It arrived quicker than anticipated and fits perfectly. I have been impressed with how they are encouraging everyone to stay safe during this time of pandemic. For a long while, they weren't open inside, but would go in and bring out what you needed (or go in to cut keys for you). Now they're back open, but insist (nicely) on wearing masks. I ordered a pressure canner from this outfit online. While filling out the online form I made a shipping address mistake. I reordered the item under a new invoice number with all the correct information and then contacted Redhill general store. When I got the company representative on the phone and explained to her what happened. She ensured me that the or original order would be canceled. The next day I received an email that my item had been shipped. On the email it showed the wrong shipping address. I immediately contacted Redhill general store worried that my shipment might not make it to the correct address. I spoke to the same company representative and with attitude, she explained to me that the shipping address was corrected and the other order was canceled. Five days later, I checked the charges on my credit card, and there were two instead of one. One charge for $392.97 and the other for $297.44. Again, I talked to the same company representative. I reminded her of the previous two phone calls and asked why I had two charges on my credit card and why the charges were different for the same item if both invoices had gone through. Again, but with slightly more attitude and some sarcasm, she ensured me that I would be credited $338. I have yet to see the $338 and am presently going through the credit card company to be refunded. read more

I recently moved from North Carolina to the Mountains of Virginia. I had always used castile soap (peppermint scented) as an all purpose soap. I searched and searched for the product. After almost giving up I found my beloved peppermint scented castile soap at Red Hill General Store. Not only did they have the large size but they had a smaller size perfect for the shower. When I checked out the sales lady also told me that they carried the non-scented and the lavender scented. I ordered a kraut crock w/weights and lid. When I opened the box the crock was broken. When I called questions were asked about the packaging, which was in good condition, excuses were made. I was told that the crock was backordered for two months. I requested a refund. The next day I got a call saying that it was determined that the crock was packaged adequately, without inspecting the package or listening to me when I said that the crock was upside down when I took it out of the box, so the fault was not theirs. It was suggested, and I rejected, to replace the broken crock with a regular crock as a substitution. I was told that a claim had been filed with UPS and that I might hear from them in 5 days. I am waiting for a resolution to the problem. The true measure of a company is in its customer service. It is easy to claim good customer service when all goes well. When things go wrong true worth and value come to light, RHGS falls far short of the mark of good service. read more
