Located right on route 12 this is the best place for fresh and frozen bait. If you need fishing supplies, they have most everything. The knowledgeable staff can even repair your rod if you lose an eyelet or need a reel re strung.

By far one of the only reasons we go to Buxton every year. Travis is the end all be all - (or as MaxyD would say - the Tom Brady of fishing) - for every Angler - Rookie or Pro. Whether you want a new rod, a cool hat, some bait, sunglasses, fishing license, koozies, tshirts, cold beer and ice or to just shoot the breeze and more than likely learn a thing or two - Red Drum is the place to be. Cannot thank all the folks there enough for doing what they do, doing it well, and for lookin' good doing it! -Lindsey, MaxyD and Sam ("BigRed") *Life time supporters*

This 40 year old store has everything for the serious avid surf fisherman. It was kind of overwhelming for me with so much stuff. Chris was super helpful to us with service, knowledge of products and informed us what what fish were biting. BF purchase some stinky frozen bunker, some fresh bait, fishing rigs and other fishing paraphernalia. He really enjoyed himself here and said that this store is stocked with alot of things he would need.

Best tackle shop in Buxton and my 2nd favorite in the Outer Banks. There's plenty of items here for even the most discriminating fisherman and the staff is top notch through and through. Check them out!

    Loading line on my reel.

We brought our bait to Hatteras for the first time visiting. It is well known for the Gulf Stream fishing. Trying to get the tackle and techniques for the local bite is always a good idea. Bad weather allowed us time to visit just about every tackle shop in Hatteras and didn't get the help that we desired. Red Drum was very helpful and got me set up. I forgot some of my rods and he gave me a discount on a combo and even loaded my line to some of my reels at no cost. This guy knows customer service. I'm sure that I'll be back before the week is up.

We always stop at the Red Drum for fresh bait and ice before hitting the beach to surf fish.

Travis is the cock of the walk and the best knotter around. Out of all the options in this area- this one is by far the most fun.

The owner was wealth of local information. He had plenty of bait fish and other tackle. I'd go back and see this dude no problem.

We always haul in a great catch, but the time spent with my family, Captain Derek and his son, Brian the first mate, is the priceless part. They are fun, safe, and really know their business. If we can't get on the Carolina Girl's schedule, then we just don't go fishing. There's no other choice for us. We've caught everything from dolphin, tuna, trigger, scorpionfish, sea bass and my dad even caught the North Carolina Golden Tile State Record on the Carolina Girl in 2010!

We met Derek Taylor, Captain, and his son Brian, Mate, on the dock early one morning ready for an adventure. Both very friendly and know their fishing. Understand the seas had not been cooperating for some time and the fish were few. Derek gave us a rough outline as to what to expect and Brian on how to catch 'em. Captain Derek Taylor and his Son, Brian, make quite the bookends. If your not from a fishing family you would never know the barbed exchanges while the lines are singing are really friendly and good natured banter. Derek, stood over watch on the flying bridge and yelled down the dance steps of a fishing experience few have ever had. Especially when the Dolphin (Mahi) took the hooks. Imagine ducking under and stepping over other rods as you brought the fish to the back of the boat for Brian to pluck from the water and cover with ice. Schools circling the boat and singing line. Brian yelling for the leader, unhooking and baiting hooks quicker than you could get the line in the water. A fish-on until the box was full. After filling the box with Mahi off we went for Wahoo or sailfish. One sailfish hook-up a way back from the boat, with a flip of the fish and a spit hook. But the Wahoo did strike hard and run deep. Three Wahoo boated and one nice fish released at the side of the boat. The released fish was big too, guess that is why they call the sport fishing and not "catching." Derek and Brian made the experience great. On the return to the Harbor we off loaded the largest catch of the day and the largest for some time in the harbor. An honest captain and crew. Carolina Girl is a good boat. Fish On!

Upstairs is a "reel" cool souvenir and beach shop loaded with towels, clothing, mugs, koozies, magnets, jewelry, candles and other great catches!! The nautical section caught my eye and I found an awesome lightly woven turquoise blanket that was just why I needed! If you love Java... you'll love the coffee bar a latte! The beverage menu is appealing and the coffee concoctions are far from the daily grind! Unless you like a regular cup of Joe, they have that too!! So if you're in Hatteras, stop in Buxton and give this one-stop shop a gander! You'll fall for it hook, line and sinker!

Staff was very nice and friendly. Unfortunately, their coffee was just awful. Their cappuccinos were made with 5oz of "espresso" pulled that is completely over extracted from a pre ground pod, topped with ~2oz of extremely scorched milk. Seriously the worst cappuccino I've ever had. And it was $5 per drink. If you need bait, fishing gear, or anything else, this might be a great spot, but if you see the giant banner advertising their espresso and think of coming for a coffee... steer clear.

If you are reading this review, then I ASS-U-ME you are considering going Kayaking when you visit…read morethe Outer Banks. A warning to all those of you who have never Kayaked. DON'T go anywhere else. Ben Cobb is a young family man who is an EMT Fireman with all the precautions for any mishap and is an INCREDIBLE GUIDE. My girlfriend and I (we are over 60 and retired) have never Kayaked and Kathie is not a strong swimmer so she had her reservations when Ben was taking us on the Alligator River Tour. She had friends who fell in and had bad experiences when they went Kayaking; please don't let me get started on them haha. YOU WILL NOT FALL IN!! Unless you don't listen to simple instructions. "Put your foot in the middle of the boat and sit down". NO ONE FELL IN and there were 6 yr olds paddling themselves (i don't advise this} Ben had to Kayak 3 miles while towing another Kayak. He did it with pleasure. I do strongly recommend watching a few YOUTUBE videos to get acquainted with how to steer it; how to get in and out, but if you have ever been in a Canoe or Row Boat, it's not rocket science. Anyone can do it if they have a couple of ounces of coordination. You won't see any Alligators, unless you are lucky like we were. YEP. An 8 ft alligator; looked like a mom guarding her babies, on the banks barely visible. How scary right? Not at all because Ben explained in the begginging what to do. NOTHING. They don't bother you; UNLESS you don't follow simple instructions like the young girl didn't do and started paddling toward the alligator. Alligator came into the water a few feet and she got the warning. That's it. Too bad we didn't see the Black Bears that sometime hang out in the trees. I don't write reviews for my health. I love reading good reviews that paint a picture so that is what I am trying to do. If you are thinking about Kayaking then call Ben. I'm sure that there are other competent guides, but why take the chance. There is absolutely nothing he could have done to make it more exciting and enjoyable, from the protein bars, water and Gatorade to the frequent stops for an education. THANKS BEN!!!! Kathie wants to buy a tandem Kayak now. She LOVED IT!!
