Baked oatmeal with raisins - Yum!!!
    Denis K.

This place deserves a five star rating for sure. It is scrupulously clean and warm and inviting. The food was terrific. The coffee was excellent. The prices were more than reasonable. I had the baked oatmeal with raisins and half and half. Sublime. 3.00. Not a ridiculously huge portion - but definitely enough. Then a breakfast burrito with sausage, cheese and egg. Also 3.00. Delicious. Coffee is their own roast. I had Bold. It was perfect. This is not a pancake or omelette place but rather a neat, clean, friendly light breakfast option with delightful offerings and great coffee. If that's what you're after, this is the best choice around. When we find something this good with no faults, we owe it to ourselves to rate it with a five. This is that good and it deserves the highest rating. Deek

I have nothing but good things to say about this charming local coffee shop. Weather you live near by or just passing through make sure you drop in and treat your self! My husbands family calls this quaint town home and every time we come to visit I make sure to get some delicious coffee and my husband loves their banana smoothies! We live in Denver Co and normally I pop in to what ever starbucks is closest but theres just something comforting and welcoming when you find a hidden gem like this place! The owners and people who work there are kind and make you feel very welcome which let's face it, isn't always the case at big chain coffee shops. They have plenty of seating but my favorite spot is this seating nook that has 2 plush chairs with with a little table and lamp and shades to close out the light if you want to be cozy!

I found this in my coffee today.

The food is usually really good (yet overpriced for what you receive) but their coffee is consistently disappointing. The workers mean well but no drink from here tastes good. The inside of the shop is super cute and the decor is homey. I'm just not a fan of the drinks.

My latte was really good. My egg bowl was a bit bland but seemed healthy so cant complain.

Fremont has had a number of…read moreclassic 1950's diners that were splendid for years, but then changed ownership, went downhill, and closed. Others open, change names a few times, and then fold up. I say this to highlight that having a good diner in the small city of Fremont is not an easy task. This diner has kept the spirit alive, showing that the mantle of quaint throwback eateries is still burning. Breakfast food is consistently good, the sandwiches in particular are remarkable value. Also located next to a gas station and located on the edge of town if you're passing through. The owner also possesses a rare intersection of expertise in food service and business acumen. He has owned other restaurants local to this city that have been successful under his management, setting the bar high for eating establishment in the area. All things taken into account, this is a place worth trying if you are considering it.

Given the recent storms hitting the Fremont area nonstop, we figured we'd support this local mom-and-pop spot for lunch this weekend. We walked in and were quickly seated at a booth near the kitchen window and the lunch counter stools. The greeting was prompt, and drink orders were taken--iced tea and Coke Zero. Yep, this little diner is proudly a Coke Zero establishment. Classic! I usually get the club sandwich, but this time I took a moment to consider if I should branch out. But, I ended up sticking with my original choice. I went for the club with tots, crispy of course. My husband opted for the Big Bopper Burger and crinkle fries. While we waited for our food, we chatted, checked our phones, and had a little people-watching session. One memorable moment was watching a toddler trying to feed boogers to a teenager. Classic diner experience! I couldn't help but overhear the servers gossiping at the lunch counter while rolling silverware, occasionally letting out a few choice words. I'm not one to judge, but it is a business, and I can't help but wonder if that might bother other customers. On top of that, I overheard them questioning whether a to-go order looked right before boxing it up. Makes you wonder... After what felt like an eternity, our food finally arrived. My tots were supposed to be crispy, but they were more like soggy, sad little bites of disappointment. I could tell they'd been fried crispy and sat around too long. The club sandwich was good, as always, though I wish the toast had been a little crispier. I get it, though; that happens when a sandwich sits in the window for a bit. My husband didn't have complaints about his burger, but there was one odd thing. The fries on his plate were barely there. He had just a scattering of a few cold ones. The server then mentioned they were making him a fresh order of fries, which left me wondering: did he get leftover fries from a previous order, or whatever was left in the fry basket? It seemed a bit off. He said the fries on his plate were cold, so I guess the mystery of leftover fries remains unsolved. Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing meal we've ever had at Mel's. I'm not sure I'll be in a hurry to return next time I'm in the area. It's still a cute spot with a lot of potential, but it fell short this time.
