Friendly atmosphere, kind staff, and an incredible lemon ginger tea. The cozy highlight of my road trip to Fort Kent.

You don't want to be let down with mediocre or sub mediocrity in terms of food. This place really hit the mark. Like a total home run! Firstly it's a cracking good bakery with fresh artisanal bread. Secondly they do very high quality coffee. Thirdly they have sandwiches, soup and other great lunch items. My lunch I selected a seafood soup. It was rich, not salty and deliciously home made. Also as my ancestors must have come from the sea I had a Gaspesian smoked mackerel sandwich. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in quite some time. Like blew my mind how good it was. It was tiny morsels of smoked fresh fish, thin apple slices. Shredded cabbage and a very nice light dressing. Holy macaroni it was amazing. I'd never think I'd have a smoked mackerel sandwich but I may try to replicate it at home. To round off the meal I ordered a capucinno and it was totally on point. Creamy. Piping hot and strong yet not bitter. To bring back to the grand ville I brought back two loaves of bread. Crispy, crunchy and soft in the centre. You would think a cafe like this would be in the Mille end Montreal or on Ave McGuire in QC or in SOHO in NYC but it's wonderfully amazing! When I Think of the options of coming here or eating at a place like St Hubert it's clear in my mind where I'd rather spend my money!

This Tim Horton's is about as far north as you can get in Maine. Madawaska is a small town at the top of the continental 48, it's main employer is the a paper mill, and 83% of its residence speak French at home. it was pleasant to listen to the conversation of several groups of older people commiserating in François, I felt like I had magically transported to a Tim Hortons in France. As my wife and I enter the restaurant half a dozen young women were ordering coffee and tea drinks at the counter. As we had never been to Tim Hortons before we placed ourselves in front of the linited menu displayed on flatscreen TV's above the counter. my wife told me what she wanted and left for the bathroom. As I was examining my options the screen exploded in a promotion for cookies which lasted for many seconds, and was a little frustrating because I couldn't make my decision without the menu. Oh well. After deciding on the ham and cheese sandwich I looked around trying to catch someone's eye. The woman behind the counter(apparently the only employee helping in-store customers) Was focused on her time consuming task of making drinks for the women ahead of us. She was not looking up. Eventually, another older woman came out tasked with changing out the money drawers. She didn't acknowledge us either:( Finally, my wife asked the woman if we were in the right place to order, and still focused on her task, she said that the woman was making drinks and would be with us shortly, and promptly left. Finally the Coffee lady called the young women up to the counter, their drinks were ready, except she forgot two teas from the order she had just taken and had right in front of her:( After about 10 minutes she finally acknowledged our presence and asked for our order- once you got her attention she was actually quite nice. We made our order including 10 donut holes in various flavors. Coffee lady hustled around getting our drinks and a my wife's doughnut and before we sat down our food was ready. But she forgot the donut holes from the order that she had just taken and was right in front of her:( clearly this poor coffee lady was overworked and under trained. I assume cash drawer lady was the manager, why didn't she come out and help her overwhelmed employee? Tim Hortons has clearly prioritized drive-through customers, at least three employees were working on those orders. Finally the food. The sandwich was OK, a fair amount of ham and two slices of cheese(Although it didn't look anything like the picture on the menu),white bread, a little bit too much mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. It looked like something a harried mom might throw together at seven in the morning just before the bus arrived for her five-year-old's lunch The chocolate and berry flavored donut holes were fine but the glazed were stale. And somehow I got all the tiny little leftover chips. I had a minor case of indigestion and the rest of the afternoon. So much for my very underwhelming first experience at Tim Hortons, I'll never go back. if you happen upon this Tim Hortons I would suggest you drive down the road to Fort Kent and go to McDonald's, and I hate McDonald's!
