I am only giving 5 stars SOLEY for and because of Dr Shah ONLY. I've been seeing him since he was…read morein the offices on Patricia Ln. before he moved to Baxter. He is a beyond stellar psychiatrist and has helped me so much for over 5 years, I cannot praise him enough. Now .. his office staff are below average. Ever since he has moved to Baxter, I have had nothing but issues with his front desk staff and practice managers. I do not want to leave because I really REALLY love the doc and the care and compassion he's shown me since day one of being his patient has meant the world. But when I'm being harassed and threatened with discharge for rescheduling 2 or 3 appts in the past FIVE years, having to leave multiple messages about my medications (that I cannot quit cold turkey but cannot automatically refill them because they're controlled) that are not being given to him and then basically being told that it is MY fault they were not filled on time ..... that has put me on the fence. I really hope all the support staff and management get either gets their crap together or just fired and replaced completely.

The only reason I am giving him 1 star is because I cannot give Dr. Shah a 0 rating. He is money…read morehungry and overschedules patients when they are stable and no changes have been made. He is aggressive in communicating when questioned about his rationale. He has no idea of trauma informed care. He has questionable ethics. He is more interested in making money than caring for his pts in an appropriate manner.

This probably sounds like over-reach, but I'll say it anyway…read more.. Dr. Melvin gave me my life back. 23 years ago, suffering from major depression, I decided I needed help and chose to find professional help. The first two psychiatrists I contacted tried "quick fixes", and when they didn't help much, they went no further. The a friend recommended Dr. Melvin. My first impression when meeting him was a demeanor of calm professionalism, and and obvious drive to help me with my problem. After a substantial discussion of my symptoms, he decided that medication was the best choice for me. We tried 3 different anti-depressants, all offered some, but not significant help for my depression...but Dr. Melvin did not give up. He suggested a rather obscure "old school" anti-depressant that he had found was sometimes effective when the more recent medications were not. I knew within 2 hours after taking this that my solution had been found. I was so profoundly moved that it was hard to control my emotions. I felt good for the first time in several years. And this has continued, with this medication, for the last 23 years, really the best years of my life. Maybe some other psychiatrist would have been persistent like Dr. Melvin, but maybe not...and I would be where I was 23 years ago. I hardly ever write this sort of thing. But it occurred to me that there might be someone out there like me who needs someone with his skills to solve there problem. Thank you, Dr. Melvin
