Real Salt Lake's home stadium is now called America's First Field. The stadium is very nice. Every seat has a terrific view. The stadium is well managed and clean. There are plenty of concessions available. The home games are VERY family-friendly. The main jumbotron is on the south end of the pitch, where the home team's boosters beat drums, sing songs and lead chants in support of the team. The home games are a lot of fun. They're even more fun at this moment, because the team is very good. The game against Houston Dynamo on July 3 put the team back into a virtual tie for first place in the Western Conference. And the post-game fireworks, during which they let the fans onto the pitch, were terrific. Real Salt Lake is Utah's only professional football team and its games are well worth attending. read more

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE SECURITY? A woman and her family took my 14 year old daughter and her friend's seats. When she showed them her ticket and pointed out her belongings were still sitting next to her seat the woman replied "she didn't care. Find somewhere else to sit". My daughter's friend went to get security only to be told "there was nothing he could do". They showed him their tickets and even the people around them telling the security guard "Louis" that my daughter and her friends were sitting there. He told them they needed to leave or be escorted out. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Oh it gets worse! After standing at the top of the stadium in the 97° heat for a good portion of the game, my daughter and her friends decided to go buy another drink. (Who would take their standing seats). While standing in line, my daughter's friend PASSES OUT AND HITS HIS HEAD ON THE CONCRETE. Look it up! There is an incident report. The police and ambulance came. Heat exhaustion really? Could that be from STANDING AT THE TOP OF THE STADIUM FOR SO LONG? Did I mention my daughter and her friends were separated from the adult in their group because my daughter's friend had on the opposing team's jersey? What kind of shit show is this? Tell your greedy season ticket holders on the front row to put their legs down and stop blocking people from getting to the bottom of the field especially on firework nights when everyone is invited on the the field and it requires getting past them. I have been here for about five different games. I have sat on each side as well as up in the stands and right on the field. Each time has been a great experience at these games. They are always so very packed and there are a lot of passionate fans. The beers usually cost around $15. But this is normal for any type of event in Salt Lake. They have many food, options and activities outside the stadium while you wait or in between for halftime. The tickets are pretty cheap and if you have a last-minute plan, you can get some. I would recommend going to if you have not been and buy some cheap tickets. The views are great, no matter where you sit. read more

At the time of writing this review, 13 teams in MLS have won the MLS Cup. Real Salt Lake is one of them. They won the league championship in 2009 in a championship game with a razor-thin result: Real Salt Lake edged the LA Galaxy, 5-4, in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. It was an upset win for Real Salt Lake. The Galaxy had finished 1st in the Western Conference that season. Real Salt Lake finished 5th. I'm a sports lover and this pandemic has really taken a toll on me mentally. When I saw that REAL Salt Lake was safely allowing a limited number of fans in the stadium for live soccer games, I jumped at the chance to buy tickets! This was my very first soccer game EVER, and it was the final game of the season. I absolutely loved it! The game I attended was in early November, but on our way to the stadium it started snowing. Like a driving, wet, ridiculous Utah winter snow. Since I had already paid for the tickets (about $35 each) and I was so excited to have something to do outside of the house, we stuck with it. We visited the team store straight away to buy scarves and warm hats, and we braved the cold, damp snow to get to our seats before the match started. Our seats were excellent, and we were spaced very far away from other fans. Masks were required and everyone adhered to the guidelines. The stadium did "discourage" yelling and cheering, but YOU try to be quiet at a sporting event - it's impossible! I felt totally safe, especially because we were outside, and everyone was properly wearing their masks and keeping well over a 6 foot distance. I don't know the rules of soccer but as a hockey fan, the game felt familiar (if a lot slower). I yelled and cheered with the fans, and I caught on pretty quickly. I especially enjoyed when the fans would beat on the chairs and kick to make lots of noise. It took me two seconds to join right on in. I'm sure during a "normal" game, it would be even more fun. I looked up REAL's record and it's pretty dismal, and they also lost this final home game of the season (0-2). We, and the other fans, stayed 'til the bitter end, but my feet were frozen about halfway through. Even with thick jeans, my legs were like ice cubes by the time the game was over and we walked back to our car. A hot shower never felt better. I can't wait to attend more games when the weather is nicer, and I plan to be more of a regular at games next season! This was a fun experience, and I'm already trying to learn more about the rules of soccer as well as the team. read more

This is not the fake salt lake. That's on the other side of town. Salt Lake have been one of the success stories of MLS coming out of nowhere in a region where you didn't expect a soccer team to do well, and they're actually doing really well. It's kind of an imposing area for people to fly into and play a soccer game and that's one of the reasons they do well at home. Rio Tinto Stadium can be a real fortress at times and they use it as such. It almost didn't get built and the region almost lost the team because of that. But eventually it happened and it's been great for 12 or so years now. They've done nothing but great things for MLS and the region, even though they're not one of my personal favorite teams. Of course they lose a point for the racism within the institution and the nasty coach they had. read more

If you thought Disney land lines were bad, wait until you come here. Nothing like spending 5 hours sitting in a cold winter storm and hearing the soothing voice of the announcer announce the game being postponed multiple times throughout the day. They did end up playing in white out conditions 4 hours later, (after they had announced it was postponed for later in the day-and we left, planning on coming back) but mainly because they didn't want to refund all the tickets. Was a fun game to watch overall... from home... on TV. -something else to add is they never seem to pick up the phone, they prefer texting you AFTER hours(5-8pm) so they don't have to talk to you. read more

After being a former sports writer for the better part of my 20's I finally got a chance to go and watch a major league soccer match (I've been to every professional sport you can think of, but soccer was the last one on my list to check off). First things first, getting to the stadium is a breeze taking the Trax blue line. The walk to the stadium from the stop is super close. Secondly, I was lucky enough to have some free tickets, compliments of my partners employer. Along with those tickets came some pretty awesome perks. Free food is always better when its truly free! We were in the Zion's Bank club seats, which come free access to the club grille. So burgers, hotdogs, ice cream and nachos later this was well worth the $5 Trax fare I spent. The game itself was fun as the stadium is open and there doesn't look to be a bad view in the house. The fan section for RSL looked like it would be a blast if I liked soccer a lot (I grew up a hockey fan, so I don't know if I'll ever embrace soccer), but either way it was a fun experience and I'll be back for another game I'm sure. read more

So as we continue out tour de MLS, we made a trip down to Salt Lake to catch RSL play Philly. RSL has one of the best front offices in the league and it seems to have trickled down to the team and fans. We parked along State Street on the south bound side (because we were headed south after the game). I'm surprised that we couldn't find any RSL sponsored parking (or any signs for it) and most people parked in 3rd party lots. We were a little bit early and lined up with other fans on the northwest side of the stadium. Let me reiterate something: Fans were lined up early. That's something you hardly ever see in Houston. Outside the northwest entrance is the "fan ally." Vendors are set up here to with their giveaways and coupons. We didn't really spend much time out here because we weren't really interested in collecting more drawstring bags or coupons we couldn't use. But it seemed like the kids around really enjoyed it. To make up for not walking around the stadium, we walked the concourse (we had an hour to kill!) mostly (for me) to observe what kind of food they had available. I was also on a mission to find Rimando's Wit Beer (btw, Utah beer is gross, the Shock Top we got tastes different from any other Shock Top around the country. Raise the alcohol content in beer.) We eventually found it behind the south end bleachers. We settled on some pizza to share. It was pretty unremarkable. We sat along the east side which was ok since the game started so late. The sunset was a little in our eyes, but it was fine because we came prepared! (Ok just a hat and sunglasses.) The view of the field was fantastic (25 yd line-ish), but I could see that the view from the corners might not have been so great. When the game began, the whole stadium seemed to erupt into the team song. It took me a couple seconds to realize that a lot of noise was piped in. Even though most of the songs and chants were piped in, all the fans around seemed to participate and stand for big moments like corner kicks and big cheers. The crowd blew up when Morales scored the game winner in stoppage time. The supports' groups sit in the south end bleachers, and it was interesting to see the different groups. There was also a shout out to Mormanism too! But if you really listened, the chants weren't really coordinated. It would have been nice if they chanted together. Maybe RSL wouldn't have to pipe in the chants. After the game, fans were invited down to the field to watch the fireworks. I thought it was a nice gesture to let friends go down to the field. It did get a bit hairy at times because so many people were trying to get down there and there were only 2 entrances down there, afterwards there were only those 2 entrances back out, a bottleneck nightmare. We ended up climbing over the concrete wall and exiting with the people who stayed in their seats. It was pretty easy to get out through the large gates on the NW side. It was a little dicey getting out of the parking lot since so many people were walking down State Street. Overall, it was a positive experience and really fun. I can see us coming back next time we're in the area. read more

This review is for the Fan Store! Nice kids working there...friendly, knowledgeable about soccer and all sports. A little thin on the inventory at present. A few good close-out deals on older merchandise. But a very limited supply of XXL shirts and jerseys. I would have spent more time/oney there but like I said....there wasn't a whole lot to choose from. Plenty of free parking in the giant lot of Rio Tinto Stadium (the RIOT) . . the store is on the east side, so come into the parking lot from the main (south) entrance. Im not a sports fan at all. That being said the game i went to was amazing! The stadium is incredible. Its very clean and well maintained. The employees were all very nice and helpful. Its a very fun environment with everyone in the stands really getting into the game. I definitely will be going to another game! read more

Pretty much every seat in the stadium is a good seat. I've been a season ticket holder going on 5 years. The STH benefits are not great and customer service could really improve. I love this stadium. The designers and builders built and designed this stadium well. Their roofing design preserves the sound to lean more toward the field/seats rather than have the sound be released into the air. It shows that these people who designed the stadium care for the team and fans in order to make this stadium fortress it once was in the previous years like 2013, 2014 etc. except for 2015. Their staff members are nice to the fans. They aren't rude and the food that the stadium serves is Phenomenal. And the seats are comfortable so come and enjoy what this stadium has to offer such as allowing the fans to go onto the field after 2 games in July. The reason for this is for the fans to enjoy the fireworks for the 4th of July and Pioneer day. read more
