The owner of this business, Lisa is maybe the most unprofessional woman I have ever encountered. She will hang up on you, curse you out all for asking for paperwork for the pet you adopted. Then continue to harass you after asking her to not to contact you. read more

I have been fosterig for this rescue for many years, and was upset to read the previous negative reviews. The common thread seemed to be, the posters were not able to adopt a dog they wanted. Lisa is very selective about who can adopt one of her dogs. I know because for many years, I helped her by evaluating applications. Among other requirements, the possible adopter has to have a fenced yard, and their previous pets must have been altered and kept up to date on all immunizations and preventatives. She knows the personalities of her fosters, and is aware that each dog needs a certain kind of home. Therefore, not all applications are approved. Granted, Lisa can seem brusque, even to me. However, I realize that by trying to help so many homeless dogs, she sometimes is overwhelmed. I can forgive this because I know how much great work she is doing. by helping discarded animals. read more

Got a great dog from them. Everything went smoothly. Had a choice of 2 dogs. Very hard decision but we were very happy with the process.

I got my dogs from RGDR and am very happy with them. They are my babies. You do hv to go through the vetting process

When I think of dog lovers, I think of people who are just overly kind and warm and excited to help get sweet pups a good home! We were looking to adopt a dog for the first time and the owner, Lisa, was the most disrespectful, rude person to deal with. We didn't know what to expect as first-timers and her last response to me was "emails like yours are an annoyance". Like, WHAT? She had a puppy I fell in love with and reminded me of a childhood dog I had and I was so interested. Basically unless you already have a dog I guess you're out of luck with her and useless. The communication is awful. I was just so disheartened and disappointed. I hope she treats the pups better than she treats humans. If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

We have fostered dogs for Lisa (the owner of this rescue) for several years now. She works tirelessly to help dogs get off the streets, get the care they need, and into loving homes. She saves countless dogs and always does everything necessary to be sure they find the best home possible. read more

If there was a negative score, that's what they deserve. I was interested in a dog. I followed the protocol. I filled out the application. Included contacts, my vet's name, address and phone number. I followed up a few days later when I did not hear anything. A week goes by and I email again. This time, i receive an email from Lisa. It was a very generic response, borderline rude, declining me from adopting this dog. (Btw this particular dog had been in foster home for a year). I could tell Lisa had not even read my application. I'm not sure if she dislikes men or the LGBTQ community. I had told in my email I was a gay man. I would have given this little dog a wonderful forever home, due to discrimination, I was declined. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Spent the entire day answering endless questions about my previous dog history. I went above and beyond to send medical records as well as routine and feeding information. The dog I completed the application on was the same breed of dog I had in the past who passed from a rare disease that caused her to be paralyzed. I told our family's story of how we lost our dog over 6 months ago and how devastating this was to us. I understand the criteria that is needed to obtain this breed of dog as well as the care it takes to have them. I am a home owner with a fenced in yard... I sent proof of the dogs medical records as well as the proof of insurance that we purchased for our previous pet and Lisa still wasted my time with her endless process for 8 hours today with back and forth emails. This lady is not really wanting to give pup babies to a wonderful home. With all the history I gave her, she replied she would go with an applicant that had better experience... which was an insult to me and my late Pup baby. She has had this dog for quite some time and it's no wonder the puppy has not been adopted yet. When I applied I was sure she would tell me the pup was no longer available, but it seems like she just wants to keep the pup for herself! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! read more

The worst experience I have ever had with a person, professional or otherwise and resulted in me asking the owner of the shelter itself to leave my house for being so cruel. Lisa, the woman who owns the "rescue," is a horrible woman. She was 30 minutes late and showed up totally unaware of who I was or what was happening and called my dog fat before she even said hello to me. She repeatedly asked me if I had owned a dog before, despite my dog being right there and having previously adopted a dog from her agency. She constantly questioned my ability to raise a dog despite me telling her several times that this will be my third dog and that I not only owned a disabled dog but that I work with several disabled dogs as part of my dog sitting business. She then started proclaiming that I was going to just allow the dog in question to escape through gaps in my fence as if I would just throw a puppy outside and let it fart around on its own unsupervised. She constantly attempted to gaslight and berate me into doubting my ability raise a dog again because she personally is attached to the dog and doesn't want to give it away. After denying my offer to adopt the dog several times and realizing I was growing agitated, she tried to "offer me a trial run to see if I know what I'm doing" as some kind of backhanded olive branch. Do not ever use this rescue. Lisa doesn't love animals, she only loves herself, and she will viciously attack you for trying to adopt a dog that she likes. read more

We are an animal loving family that have two very loved and well taken care of dogs that are happy and wanted to open our home to a third. We were interested in several dogs but are now being ignored because they're a couple months out of date on vaccines which I understand the importance of keeping your dogs up to date but it's not like they've never been vaccinated it's literally a trip to the vet to get them updated which I explained we would need to do anyway in order to get them their next grooming which is also done regularly. It's not even like they're a year out of date or anything. They also don't even go anywhere to a dog park or boarding facility etc. We also have an old dog who wasn't neutered but it's because we adopted him at an old age and decided against putting him through a surgery. Our other animals we've had, we made sure to get them fixed asap when they were at the right age to do so. For Our old one, it wasn't due to irresponsibility. We took him home to "foster" and the rescue we got him from was so slow at getting him into any appointments that I ended up taking him in myself and paying myself because he had such bad allergy issues and ear infections and at that point he just became ours. The rescue was supposed to take care of that and have him neutered but never did. Anyway I just feel really disappointed because I'm a former 5-star pet sitter with dog experience and own two very happy dogs and know we could give another dog a great home and so many dogs need homes!!! So I say all this because there is no reason why we shouldn't be eligible to give a dog a home other than them being super picky. And not that it's a bad thing necessarily to be picky but at least let us explain the situation, have better communication and maybe actually call some of the personal references as well. We will be finding another rescue to go through to give another dog a home. read more

We adopted our dog almost a year ago from Real Good Dog Rescue. The owner, Lisa, is such a wonderful caretaker of animals. We also have a close family friend who has volunteered and worked with her and the rescue for years now. Real Good Dog Rescue does wonderful work getting these pups a great home, and the new owners a great, sweet new addition to the family!! read more

Filled out application, received one email back. I responded, never heard from again. Bought what I wanted at Petland. Not sure what kind of a racket these "rescues" are running but it must be making a profit for someone. Or they have god complexes and get off on rejecting and ignoring people. read more

I agree with the previous reviewer, as my husband and I had a very similar experience, although we have not fostered for this group. But trying to adopt from them is extremely difficult due to the lack of communication. We have applied for two different dogs from them and received no responses until my husband got involved. I assumed we were simply too late in applying for the first dog. But I submitted the online application for the 2nd dog within an hour of it being posted online. After two weeks of using every contact method listed (voicemails, emails, website messaging, multiple times, I still did not have a response. And the dog was still posted as available for adoption. My husband then attempted voicemail and sending email. One day after that, he received a terse response that the dog was adopted. I had begged Lisa to let me know whether we had been ruled ineligible and for what reason. But she has never responded to me. We DO have a fenced yard and own our home, and we previously had a dog for 14 years...all of this was reported...but we do not have children. So perhaps Nicole (previous reviewer) is correct in that we don't meet the model that Lisa has in mind for pet parents. When pressed by my husband about whether we should bother applying for any future dogs from them, Lisa told him we should look elsewhere! I'm very sorry that I had not read Nicole's Yelp review before now. read more

We adopted a dog from Real Good Dog Rescue. My experience with them, their foster parents & their director, Lisa has been nothing but positive. So much so, I find the previous negative reviews suspect or maybe they do not understand the process of adopting a pet from a good rescue group. Our communication with Lisa & Real Good Rescue has been excellent. Lisa has been professional, helpful, patient and honest. This group has been rescuing dogs for 10 years. They are an all volunteer group that puts the best interest of the dogs first. Some dogs are only suitable for certain people & environments & some people are just not suitable for a pet at all. Real Good Rescue takes the time to insure that each dog is matched to the best home for that particular dog. We initially inquired about several dogs with Real Good Rescue & with several other rescue groups. We found Real Good Rescue to be the most responsive & conscientious in helping us find a dog that our home & personalities were compatable with. Because of this, we adopted the most wonderful dog. We're so happy & so is he! Thank you, Lisa & Real Good Dog Rescue. PS Regarding initial response time: It seems best to contact the groups directly through their own email, phone or facebook page. If you contact though one of the big websites like Petfinder, it takes longer to get a response. We found this to be true with all the rescue groups we contacted. Also Real Good Rescue does not have a set model of the "perfect adopter" as previous reviewer said. We are senior citizens with no kids, no grand kids & live in a condo with a small fenced yard. There was no bias against us. read more

This rescue has been the utter worst in trying to adopt a dog. Lisa, the woman who runs it, has been so disrespectful to me. I have been trying to a find an emotional support dog that would accomodate me and my family. I found a yorkie that my whole family agreed on. I sent an email inquiring to see the dog. I received no answer after almost a week of waiting. I proceeded to call her to only be outright denied because of my age (21) and family. She said because of my father and since I was a young female my family wasn't good enough for the dog (even though my family is 3:4 female and all adult). She stated that he was better off for an elderly woman. I eventually went to the shelter to find a dog that I loved but had a limp and was not officially vetted. The shelter informed me that he was HW+ and that I would have to cover treatment, which my family could not afford. Even though he had these issues, I still followed his status and constantly thought of him. I eventually found that he was taken by RGDR. I put in an adoption application for him (rescue stated that they would cover treatment) and the yorkie to get no answer. Then I placed in an application to foster him that showed how much I cared for the dog since meeting him at the shelter (my father preferred to foster him since my mother did not want to make the plung yet). She just sent me an email demanding I fill out an adoption application instead. I told her I did but no answer. Every time I have inquired about a dog from this rescue, I get a snarky email from Lisa. It is so disgusting. I have never owned a dog before but have pet sat numerous dogs at my house and at others. Every place I apply for I get no answer. But the worst replies have definitely been from her "rescue." I hope that the dog I care for is truly taken care of under her watch. It scares me knowing that such a sweet dog is not getting the compassion it needs. read more

I never do this but I really want to prevent anyone from having the same experience we've had. Lisa has been extremely difficult to contact/communicate with, leaving emails for 6 days or longer, and has used the limited interaction she did provide to manipulate our response. After getting a trial with a dog that we had waited on for two months, (only because we contacted the foster directly) we found that he was not a good fit for us and want him to be in the best possible home. She has done nothing to find him a suitable foster since and has not posted him on any of the adoption sites, even Facebook, and is not responding to our emails again. We have been patient and respectful in all of our interactions with her and have been met with silence or extremes each time. read more

I went to a Real Good Dog rescue event. Hoping to help a dog find a furever home. When i got to the event I was interested in a particular dog. One of the ladies from the rescue sent me to talk to the owner of the rescue. I was standing there for a moment, and she acted as though she did not want to talk to me. I finally told her I was interested in a dog and she gave me the run around. First, she told me I had to fill out the application online. then she said there are other people who are in line for that dog as to say i would not qualify anyway if I applied online. then she said well you are a first-time dog owner so you cannot adopt a dog. Her last comment was if the dog was unadoptable, and nobody wanted him then i would talk about setting up something with adopters like you. I took that as if nobody else wanted the dog then i would give him to you. My thing is you would qualify me for an unadoptable dog as a first-time owner. But i am not good enough to have a fair chance like everybody else to qualify for an adoptable dog because I'm a first-time dog owner. This experience was horrible, and I hope I don't have this experience at another rescue. read more
