The food is pretty expensive for what it is. Expect to pay £5 + for a jacket potato. Granted they do give you an enormous portion of whatever topping you ask for but you pay for it. They have a promotion on at the mo though for a spud with beans and cheese for £2.99 which is a bargain but the cokes are really really watered down and at £1.70 for a glass they're well overpriced.

Wait service was attentive and courteous and I had no problems. I started with a comforting bowl of French onion soup which was hot, rich and winey, and the gratineed croutons came on the side - crunchy and delicious! I ended up liking it on the side where it stayed crisp and not soggy. I followed with a boeuf bourguignon that was serviceable with a good flavorful gravy, but the beef was a little on the dry and chewy side. The accompanying escalloped potatoes were very satisfying, however, and the haricots vertes were nicely sauteed. A decent place for a meal.

There is another Pret only 300 meters ("300 yards" in American) to the west, on the other side of the Broad Street pedestrian zone. Following the usual Pret style with a large cooler (and warmer!) of sandwiches, drinks and cakes, there is also a speedily-operated espresso machine behind the counter with young helpers making lattes, cappuccinos and the like with regular, skim or soy milk. There are 12 so tables indoors and another 10 outside. While you're not permitted to smoke inside the Pret boundary ropes, nothing stops a jerk from lighting up just outside and polluting your otherwise excellent sandwich. For the sandwiches, I really recommend the Falafel & Chunky Humous and the Mozzarella Pesto Bloomer. If you simply have to eat meat, the The New Yorker Bloomer with salted beef is a treat. All go well with the Spicy Piri Chilli Crisps!

They're dotted around Manchester, sure, but when I vacated the Hilton at 7am and needed somewhere to duck into with awesome coffee and free wi-fi, Spinningfields served it up to me on a platter. That's since become one of my favourite Prets. (I might even update my review. ARE YOU EXCITED?!) So I told Alexa G, if we wanted breakfast in the morning, clueless as we where to Reading and everything about it, we'd hit Pret. And hit it we did. It was a lovely sunny morning, and this particular Pret has outdoor seating cordoned off in the middle of the pedestrianised Broad Street, complete with parasols. We guzzled Americanos and Lex tucked into a savoury pastry while I made friends with a double berry muffin, and we both opted for juice. It might not be tremendously exciting, but you know what you're getting with Pret, and this one had a touch of the something special about it. Thanks for saving our white wine hangovers and allowing us to shop at full steam, Pret, we're suitably impressed.

When I found this hotel, I looked up the restaurant/pub on their official website: http://www.tobycarvery.co.uk/ We both had the Famous Four Roast Carvery where you can choose from gammon (cured leg of pork), turkey, beef, and pork. You can have a sample of all of them, along with a Yorkshire pudding, and all the fresh vegetables and potatoes you'd like from the buffet. The side dishes can range from: mash potatoes, a hash, cabbage, peas, green beans, leeks, parsnips, carrots, cauliflower cheese, etc. There is a sauce station which holds: variety of mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, a few different gravies, and some chutney. I had the Mini Rolo Sundae, which was just the right amount of chocolate, ice cream, and sauces. The wafer was a nice added crunch. There was also a pub attached to the restaurant and hotel, where we did get a drink while waiting for our table, and the wait wasn't that long. We also had out complementary breakfast, for our hotel stay, in the restaurant. There was a buffet table with granola bars, fruit, juices, coffee, and the buffet table at the carvery was filled with hot foods. Unfortunately all the eggs had some sort of meat mixed in them, that I was not able to partake.

Bad experiences are more likely to be talked about? Too right... Mine and hubby's last evening meal while living in the UK before emigrating was here and it was a huge disappointment. His parents had traveled almost 50 miles to come have dinner with us and we arrived there at just after 6, made to wait 45 minutes for a table and when seated were completely ignored. After 25 minutes of not even being offered drinks we decided to then just go and que for food. Portions were tiny and when we asked as to why we were told they were running low on meat! Seriously, At just gone 7pm on a Thursday?! We were told that they will be bringing out sausages and Pie's ect and we could then go help ourselves to that as well but they never appeared. All throughout our meal no one came to see if everything was ok or offer any drinks so we ended up going to the bar and getting our own and then time to pay no less than 3 people saw us trying to get some attention and blatantly ignored us. That being said a couple of meals here have been really good hence the overall 3 stars but I would suggest calling ahead just to make sure they're not about to run out of everything!! Plus the food is really good and I can just about cope with crappy (not nonexistent) service in return for the melt in the mouth Turkey. I also liked the fact that they had their own self serve free soft drink refills so you don't have to hunt down a server for one too and if you still have space for dessert I recommend the Fruit Crumble which also comes with bottomless Custard.
