Her X-ray was finished at 3:55 AM, yet we were left in the waiting room with zero consultation or answers until 9:00 AM. Overall, we were stuck there for nearly 14 hours just to get a diagnosis. We didn't need a bed; we needed a doctor to review her results and tell us if she was safe. The front desk conduct was appalling. A receptionist named Marella told me she "DID NOT CARE" my sister was coughing up blood and intentionally flipped her ID badge to hide her name (a violation of WA law). Another staff member earlier that morning refused to provide a grievance form. While the clinical staff was kind and attentive once they finally saw us at 9:00 AM, the 13+ hour total time spent for a respiratory emergency is a massive safety risk. Formal reports have been filed with the WA Department of Health and Legacy Leadership. Avoid this ER.

Dr Kozinski came in the middle of the night to do an angiogram that confirmed a SCAD. I was moved to the Cardiac ICU where the entire team was wonderful. While I can't remember the name of the great nighttime nurse (sorry!), daytime Nurse Mary and NP Jackie were caring and super informative. I've forgotten so many names, but I want to mention that the young man who put in my second IV line (the first was at a clinic) did it painlessly. Also, the professional who did my echocardiogram was excellent, and the staff member who took my food orders was so considerate and helpful. Everyone was so welcoming and respectful to me, my same-sex spouse, and my sister. Their care and treatment were exemplary. I was able to be discharged after only one night in the CICU. This year, Black Friday was the blackest of them all…read more I had to rush my wife to the emergency room in the middle of the night, as she had begun experiencing severe flu symptoms. Coupled with her existing Type 1, the combination of the two swiftly morphed into diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a condition that can rapidly escalate into coma...or death. Despite arriving at around 3am, the emergency room lobby was filled with at least two dozen souls suffering from other maladies. Once we were able to check in, she was seen by a triage nurse within 15 minutes, who ran labs and diagnostics; she was returned to the lobby to suffer for another 30-45 minutes before a room was found for her. We'd overheard from the nursing staff that the wait for rooms could be as long as 8 hours, but apparently someone behind the scenes fast-tracked her, realizing the severity of her condition. Unfortunately, once she was taken in to the ER, she languished for nearly another hour while the painfully aloof (and criminally understaffed) night nurse waffled about, with nothing to do, until the lab results could be fully processed, and a doctor could be found. This was interminable, as my wife desperately needed pain medication, and hydration - neither of which were provided, despite multiple requests. Also, there was no sense of urgency or even quality patient care from the nurse (Emily? It was a short "E" name), who seemed frustrated at being "overwhelmed" (despite sitting at an adjacent desk 15' away for 30 minutes, while my wife's pulse monitor, which had fallen off her finger, blared at her the entire time). Eventually, a doctor did arrive, assessed the situation, and got her medicated, hooked up to fluids, and started the healing process. It was only then that we started to learn that what we'd assumed was just a nasty flu was something far worse. After a few hours, a shift rotation (Adam, the dayshift nurse, was conversely awesome), and several more bags of fluids and medications (I saw at least 4 separate drip bags going simultaneously, at one point), my wife was released from the ER and moved upstairs to an ICU bed, where she would remain for another 16 hours or so, hooked up to machines pumping her full of electrolytes and chemicals to get her system back into normal operation. She would eventually be moved out of the ICU to "regular" recovery room, for another 24 hours, before being released, nearly three full days after being admitted. Once she was through the nightmare of the first four or five hours in the ER, our experience with SW Washington marginally improved, from cold and dangerously understaffed, to clinical and still-understaffed, but not as bad. It's obvious that there is a massive healthcare provider shortage throughout all the wards and departments here, as there was never more than a skeleton crew of nurses anywhere, around the clock, and call times to summon one to my wife's bedside took an average of 20-30 minutes; wanting to speak to the doctor on-shift (there was only one) usually took at least 3 hours, if they could be located at all. They held my wife for an extended period out of an abundance of caution, as she had mostly physically recovered by the end of the first day, but the levels of certain chemicals in her system, such as potassium and magnesium, were lower than average. They kept her bedridden and attached to drip bags for the entirety, in order to prop them back up, although we never saw much progress. Eventually they were forced to release her, as she was "close enough", and they needed the beds. She's home now, taking it easy, and will probably be fine, but...man, that was a scary weekend. I rushed my wife to SW Washington out of convenience, as it was arguably the closest hospital to our house in a rush, and I'd had a good experience with them before, during a personal emergency (I was in and out in 3 hours). However, should a similar scenario every rise up again, if a few additional minutes can be spared, I'll be taking her back to OHSU instead, for several reasons: more beds, better staffing (both in numbers and quality of patient care) and, most important of all (if you ask my wife): *FAR* better food. Seriously, every joke or meme you've heard made about hospital food being bland or terrible is true here: it's atrocious!

My insurance paid $110,000 of it and I paid the other $2000. SW Medical had contacted dozens of other doctors and professionals to work on me. None of their services were included in the $112k bill. They never provided my insurance info to the doctors they had contracted and over a year later I received a garnishment notice from a collection agency. It was $5700 more. Then a year after that I received a notice (first time hearing about this bill) for another $3000 with a threat of garnishment. SW Washington Med Center says they bill their Trauma Service and their Medical Service separately and somehow my insurance info was never viewed by the trauma billing people. They also bill the "hospital use" and the doctor seperately. So I am still paying bills from this horrible place! I have GREAT insurance and should not be paying this, but insurance companies by law will only accept bills a year or less old. I would rather pay for a longer ambulance ride and be taken to Salmon Creek or Emanual. Never again will I do business with this horrible company (Peace Southwest) Who garnishes someone's wages for a medical bill that was their own screw up? I've had several bad experiences at the Providence ER. The last time was especially bad. I had…read moreaccidentally taken the wrong amount of my medication and immediately went to the ER to seek help. Instead of calling poison control, I was rushed to the ICU where nurses spent all their efforts into convincing me that I had tried to harm myself. During this, I had four seizures before they decided to call Poison control to receive treatment instructions. Four seizures could have been prevented if they had called poison control immediately. I bit my tongue several times and bled profusely. They told me that my tongue will heal quickly, and refused to also treat that wound. It has not healed in almost a month. I had to see my primary care provider elsewhere to receive help. I felt neglected, as if they didn't really care. They weren't trying to treat me, but shove me in their mental health unit, when I had not tried to hurt myself. Their judgement of my character and actions was unwarranted and their actions felt harsh and punitive in nature. Eventually they called poison control and administered medication that would have effectively prevented this whole ordeal. I will never go back. All of the other hospitals in Portland are far better options with far better care that doesn't lack compassion and judgement by a very near sighted and uncaring staff. I am trying to not take this personal, and ruminate, but it was traumatic and embarrassing, and has led me to seek help in dealing with it. At my appointment on February 13, 2026, she told me she would have another physician review my MIR report and would get back to me within three days with a plan and referral to the appropriate specialist. That never happened. I followed up through the patient portal 4 times asking who I was being referred to and what the plan was. I repeatedly received messages from staff saying she was out of the office/on-call and would respond within 48 hours, yet I never received a response from the doctor herself. When medical issues require timely care, patients depend on their doctors to follow through. Instead, I was left without answers and had to begin searching for specialists on my own. I sent a message through the portal asking to refer me to the specialist I found myself and still no response. As of March 11, 2026, I still have not received any follow-up or referral. I would not recommend this provider based on my experience. This is not ok.

Lindsey did the first set of X-rays and I was so impressed with the care and communication she gave the both of us the whole time. We even got a sticker of her cat miss Norris and we were told they are a hot commodity. I believe it. I hate that I didn't completely catch our nurses name working with doctor Washington- Kayla, Kaylee, Caitlin?! I'm so sorry!!! But she was so great throughout the whole night with my daughter and even gave her a brown bear at the end with a splint and cast on the same arm my daughter left with one. Ded. Dr Washington you were also very kind and thank you for doing your best to put the broken bones into place. We had a long visit but the care was superb so 5 stars to the whole staff. So so impressed and made the emergency visit less painful. Also note to the world- monkey bars are horrible and I shake both my fists at them.

The frequency with which I'm having to review hospitals is not exactly ideal, but...here we go…read moreagain. My wife had a diabetes-related incident which required two days worth of hospitalization, so we were treated to a wide variety of Legacy Emanuel's departments, from intake at the ER, to the ICU, to the pharmacy and, of course, the much-maligned, dreaded hospital food (and rightfully so)! Our experience was a mixed bag, but mostly positive overall. Intake took longer than I feel is acceptable for, you know...the EMERGENCY room, but the quality of care, right out of the gate, was top notch: competent, friendly nurses and technicians (BIG shout-out to Michael in the CVICU for being stellar!), from start to finish. Consultation with full-fledged doctors was few and far between, but maybe that will help keep the costs down when the remainder of the bill comes back from insurance. The Children's Garden is a-freakin'-dorable. The food was one of the few things that was consistent...consistently terrible. As has always been the case with diabetes-related care, the advice my wife receives seems to vary, based on the person giving it, with some providers seeming more confident, and competent, than others...which is probably why we end up in situations like this. Without going into too many details, one endocrinologist recommended using an insulin pump, the other recommended manual injections via insulin pens, and both of them offered different suggestions on the amount of insulin to administer, based on carb count. It's incredible to me that this isn't yet a settled science. Another irritating thing I encountered was the main entrance to the atrium being blocked off for construction or renovations, meaning that to pick up a prescription, we had to enter through the Randall Children's Hospital entrance, and then navigate an absurdly long series of hallways to get there...only to find that our prescription wasn't filled on time, and that we'd have to come back and do it all over again later. Ugh. In short, we've had better care (OHSU), and worse care (PeaceHealth), but Legacy Emanuel does enough things right to straddle the gap, and exist in our minds as a wholly acceptable and comprehensive health care provider, even during times of crisis (and as an important side note: the adjacent Randall Children's Hospital is a five star facility, no bones about it). Just...hurry up with the ER intake procedure, will ya?

Regarding a prior treatment at the Silverton, OR hospital, I ended up with a bill considerably less than $ 100. 2. Previously any of my earlier patient charges subsequently resulted in a bill mailed to me. Thereafter, it was soon paid in full. 3. However, pertinent to the most recent aforesaid charge, no bill have ever been posted to my mailing address on record. 4. Nonetheless, for a period now spanning many weeks, I've continued to receive texts and voicemail messages demanding payment. 5. During this same time span, and on FOUR separate occasions, I've written (2 letters and two emails) to the billing department's Portland, OR address. Each time stating unequivocally that the bill will be paid in full and promptly once I've received a mailed paper statement. 6. Yet, nary received a mailed bill, which I want for my tax records. 7. Nonetheless, the texts and voice mails, including today, persist unabated.
