Don't buy jeans from this man--he's a crook.
I bought a pair of Levi's from him, but I took them back the next day because when I got home I noticed they were stained. He told me it was from the cardboard box they had been stored in which had succumbed to the effects of damp. He gave me £25 off the jeans but told me I could wash them and if the stain was still there I could return them for a full refund. The boss very clearly gave me his word that it would be alright for me to remove the labels from the jeans before washing them. After washing the jeans, however, the stain hadn't come out so I took them back to the shop expecting to return them in exchange for a refund. When I brought the jeans back the boss refused to accept the return on the grounds that I had removed the labels, the labels that he himself had instructed me to remove. I pointed out that he'd gone back on his word at which point his tone became opprobrious. Aside from calling me stupid for discarding the labels, he told me that he had not expected me to return to his shop leading, me to infer that he never intended to take the jeans back.
When he had initially instructed me to remove the labels and wash the jeans, he stated a few times that he was a gentleman and would honour his word. His manner, however, did not bestow a great deal of honour upon him. He was very keen to keep reminding me he's been in business for 40 years--well I can only assume this longevity is due to this mans sly mien. read more
