My colleague used the accommodation and at the corporate rate of £97 per night including breakfast…read morehe was not best impressed. The room was quite dated and the bathroom shower quite inadequate. He did enjoy breakfast. OK. Now my bit. I joined him in the evening for dinner, and I have to say that the meals were homely, and good value for money, with the exception of perhaps the starter I had, although I did enjoy. I had their seafood platter which was about £8 for my starter. For my main I had the gammon with both egg and pineapple (a reasonable price as I recall). The latter wasn't out of a tin. Unfortunately, the menus on their site weren't the ones that we had before us, so difficult to check the prices. So the food was everything I wanted it to be. You can eat in either the bar or, the otherside, in the restaurant. I couldn't see much difference, other than the fact that no one was in the restaurant!!! :-) Locals in the bar created a bit of banter, which I always enjoy. So a good place to eat, but perhaps not best for accommodation. Also, some nice ales to sample.

Inside was still traditionally maintained but looked a little tired. The food in the italian restaurant next door was really tasty and surprisingly reasonably priced. The main bar area was quiet for a monday night, but there was a pianist in the corner and the atmosphere was really cosy, not to mention a good range of real ales that the barman informed me were all local. The room we stayed in was clean and tidy and the staff were all excellent, couldn't have asked for more.

Hundred House Hotel

It's exactly my kind of decor, dark, homely, rustic, kind of scottish castle feel-y, which is what I aim for in any property... It was quite quiet- but on a simultaneous Tuesday off, I wasn't particularly surprised. The staff were lovely, two quite attentive waiters. Rosemary olives were lovely to start, and gorgeous warm bread. Both of us went for the duck, jus, charred broccoli and game crisps. I honestly could have eaten it all day, perfectly balanced, perfectly cooked and rich without feeling too heavy. My friend is weird, and hates vegetables, which usually concerns the maternal nag in me, but today I didn't care when it meant bonus broccoli. I will definitely come back again, I can completely see why people get married here- I would just for the food, never mind a bedroom swing!
Slightly slow service at the bar was no indication of the excellent meal that was to follow…read more Oysters, smoked salmon blinis, moules and escabeche of haddock and prawns were all pronounced good starters. For mains, sea bass, loin of venison and salt cod were all received with praise and the treacle tart and custard for dessert was very good. With two bottles of wine and three beers the bill was £210 for four. An enjoyable evening in pleasant surroundings and good value for money.

Large bathroom with a great shower and accessories. We had a meal downstairs in Oscars restaurant which is very modern yet intimate and the food was more than excellent! When we told the manger that we had got engaged in our room he was very accommodating. We had one of the best meals we had had in a long time and service was impeccable. We had a few drinks in the public bar next door which was very homely and welcoming yet lively and we went to bed very happy and excited. The outdoor areas are excellent and well kept. Above all, I would recommend this hotel to anybody above any 'chain' hotel as the rooms are exceptional and the service is personal and attentive. My only problem is that they don't do weddings!

Surely there's an award for best pub garden out there somewhere and this pub simply MUST win it!…read more Every Englishmen loves settling in for a good bank holiday session and this pub garden was the most perfect location for it. Set at the top of the little High Street in Bishops Castle, the view stretched for miles across the immaculate English and Welsh countryside. There is a vast amount of space, with lots of large tables for big parties and a stretch of grass where children and dogs ran freely, out of the way of the tables. The pub served lots of lovely locally brewed ales, my friends and I enjoyed many a Shropshire lad! Although I didn't have chance to sample the food, it smelt and looked delicious. I am now seriously considering moving to Shropshire.
