While the design district (despite its…read morename) isn't really the best starting point for most home decorating journeys, I first found their website and I believe it was the closest place to Miami Beach with a decent selection of wallpaper books for review. First, let's just get this out the way: their website (as of late 2013) is awful. It's like the internet circa 1997. Bad. But their retail location is large, pretty, with parking at both sides of their building (it's on a corner). The interior cordons off the wallpaper book "library" to the back where staff help consult shoppers like me looking for inspiration. But each time I've been there, it usually takes *several* minutes for someone to help and the staff have been more helpful than not, however English language skills are a lacking for some staff. This was less an attitude problem than a language thing. Anyway, I'm giving this a three star rating which might seem harsh, but that's exactly what I think makes sense: One Of A Kind stocks lots of wallpaper and interior textiles, with books available for research and product available for order, but it's not above-and-beyond.

More recently, we bought a tall dresser. We did this all remotely (never visited the showroom to look at the piece; just viewed the choices online) and Gordon was an amazing one-man support team, guiding us expertly through the choice of product, the stain we wanted to apply and the best finish (urethane coating) for the job. He even stopped staining the piece when the color we chose was not matching the piece of old furniture we dropped off as a sample and suggested the perfect alternative stain. Gordon was in constant communication during the building, shipping and delivery planning processes. And he and his partner were super friendly and efficient when making the delivery. But the best part: this dresser is ROCK solid. It has a simple but elegant look. Every seam, every drawer bracket, every surface is flawless. The drawers glide open and closed super smoothly, without any wobble or play. They close securely with a tiny extra push. And the smell of that fresh wood...exquisite. A natural freshener. This ain't your cheap Ikea furniture, folks. Nothing wrong with that, if that's what suits your taste and budget. But the cost is absolutely worth it for Wood You. It is a dual location, with regular pricing and selections on the first floor and clearance & outlet selections on the second floor. On the first floor you can find some floor model items with deep discounts, as well, but most of the savings priced items are upstairs. The furniture upstairs is a very mixed lot. Some of the items are really in pretty bad shape. Very stained, torn, and/or worn. I was honestly surprised they would even try selling some of the pieces. However, there were also a few items in good shape mixed in for a nice discount. We did end up finding a nice oversized chair, just what we were looking for, for an EXCEPTIONAL price. We saw a salesperson walking by and called him over and he was really so excellent. He said he was the manager and I wish I'd gotten his name to mention, cause he was so wonderful. Very down to earth and kind, and really worked with us to get us a great deal and help our family save some money. A really good, stand up guy. Also a special mention to the man who was working upstairs. He overheard my husband and I questioning some things and he chimed in and offered great information to help us in our decision making. Really helpful guy and I appreciates him. They do not do delivery for floor models but they have people they work with to get it delivered and the manager who helped us quickly got us arranged with a delivery person who was also such a great guy. Really hardworking and pleasant to deal with. We got our new chair delivered the same day, within a few hours after leaving the store. I would highly recommend this store based on my experience with the manager and the delivery person. I haven't received such wonderful service in quite a while here in Miami.
