Caltagirone is the capital of Sicilian ceramics. No chance that fact runs away from you while you…read morewalk those famous stairs. Shops are everywhere. I am not especially fond of Sicilian ceramics, but there are some of it that has an artistic expression and could be brought home. In the middle of it all I found a small paradise for a light lunch. Chiosco Giardino Spadaro Soget is not easy to find, so ask your way. I had a very tasteful Ceasars Sallad to a glas of white wine. Made me in fact more positive to the ceramics before a short visit ended and a fine "discovery" had been made.

The fava bean soup was excellently prepared and the pasta with ham and pistachio was resplendent. We thought we came after the lunch crowd and off season on a Monday so the place was empty and service was quick. But our one complaint is that the one waiter was quickly overwhelmed when the locals started trickling in at 2pm and the place quickly became packed, and service became a bit slower. Come earlier than we did, especially if you are trying to make the day efficient by visiting the city and as many of the surrounding roman ruins. Otherwise, loved this restaurant and highly recommend it!

We made reservations online and when we arrived we were promptly seated. The room is gorgeous with stone walls and high ceilings. There is mood lighting and a purple ¨lamp¨on each table. Modern white tables and chairs finish off the cool modern vibe. The pictures don't do it justice really a great place to eat. The. Service was excellent. Our waiter spoke very good English and was really knowledgeable about the menu. I'm quite a wine snob but am pretty dumb when it comes to Sicilian wines. I asked him for a recommendation based on my wife's steak order. In my home town Miami thats a license to steal as the most expensive wine would end up on your bill. Instead he brought a wine from the lower price tier, local and amazingly complex. The food is priced the same. With all pastas 12 and secondi (meat and fish) 15. We ordered the cáprese and it was waaay too much. 5 perfect balls of buffalo mozerrella with fresh tomatoes and basil. Very nice. We then had the entrecôte with a side of excellent fries and the pasta with sea urchin. Both dishes, Especially the pasta i would come back for. All in all an excellent dining experience with good food, service and ambiance.
