We had 2 rooms reserved here 10 months in advance with no deposit. It was a great halfway point between Kansas City MO and Billings MT. The lady checking us in offered the AARP rate which reduced the charge from $200 to $160. Yay!! The beds were very comfortable with plenty of pillows. The complimentary breakfast included eggs, toast, sausage, cereals, fruit and cinnamon rolls. Juice , coffee and tea available all the time in the lobby. It was a great experience- wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

This is a great place to stay. You can spend a nixing the lobby alone looking at the mounts and taxidermy but then you wouldn't have time for the pool! Very easy to make reservations and the rooms are clean and classy. Old pictures and history is posted throughout the hallways. Pizza restaurant is next door and a nice place to run dogs in a beautiful grass area and playground for the kids. I strongly recommend this hotel! read more

This place is so cute. We stopped here to charge the Tesla and went to ask if we could use their bathroom and maybe buy coffee from them. They wouldn't charge us for the coffee, and their bathroom was very clean. The lady we talked to was so incredibly nice!!! we walked away recharged, electrically (Tesla) and energetically (coffee). Well, check-in was a breeze, but a 2nd day with no cell service and iffy Wi-Fi. The Rustic appearance sure suits at surrounding area. But, walking into the room, and seeing those white walls, was a bit of a shock after the natural look of the outside. Both the room and bathroom are very clean. But, there ws some dirty streaks (looked like baby food) on top of the microwave which I wiped off with a dry rag, and on the bottom of the mini fridge. Also, the door drags a bit on the carpet. But, those little things, have no effect on the score. Right now, I'm just kind of taking it easy, and hoping the Wi-Fi's stays strong. Well, let's see what the morning brings. Breakfast sounds like it'll be great. Well, I had a great shower. The water pressure practically blasted me out of the bathroom. ;-) But, another place that can be a problem for some senior citizens, there isn't a grab bar. read more

I loved this spot. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and fresh. We washed our clothes in their inexpensive washers and dried them in the efficient dryers. The doll collection display was fascinating. Outside the hotel, I saw a western kingbird and a common yellow throat. There are a lot of places to turn off the highway for the night along South Dakota's highway. This is a good one. read more

This hotel is a wonderful place! Upon walking in my group was greeted with freshly made cookies and the receptionist went above and beyond by recommending the delicious pizza place next door. The lobby was amazing with local animals showcased and a wonderful homemade breakfast. Also, the rooms are adorable and comfortable with everything you could need. Additionally, the pool and hot tub are really high quality. Another fun perk is that there is Tesla superchargers in the parking lot. To summarize you should pick this hotel over the other ones near by due to its great customer service, unique country feeling, and high quality. Only reason I have it four stars is because in the morning there was a different receptionist and he was quite rude to me and another customer for putting a spoon in apparently the wrong spot. ‍ read more

We stayed at the hotel for one night on our recent road trip to see the Badlands, Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park. The hotel is about an hour away from the Badlands and is near I-90. We traveled with our k-9 and our room was near the back entrance and the pool. Kids will be kids and we could hear the kids enjoying themselves at the pool. The staff quickly shut down the pool play at 10:00. I only mention this as a consideration if you are wanting to go to be early. Love the hotel publicly supports their local law enforcement on their outside signage. The employees were pleasant and the hotel room was clean. We will definitely stay there again when traveling through the area. read more

Every time we travel through Murdo (okay, this was our first) we stay at the Range Country hotel. Our awesome experience started the night prior to arrival when I booked our room, and the clerk that assisted me on the phone was exceedingly helpful in accommodating our need for a single-room sizable enough to bunk five bodies. On arrival, I met that same friendly clerk, who had us check in and in our room within a couple of minutes-- super fast and friendly service (including delivery of our requested extra rollaway bed even before we got to our room). The rooms were clean and spacious, though a tad bit dated, but for a rustic country themed hotel the old-time charm of the place just worked. Breakfast the next morning was sufficient to get us on the road quickly and satisfied. All in all, it was a great choice for a one-night pit stop for our group of road warriors, and we'd absolutely stay again if we find ourselves in South Dakota. read more

Great little motel. We stopped by In The way out to Mount Rushmore. I didn't check any of the other motels around, but this one looked head and shoulders above the crowd. And a huge plus for us, is that they have Tesla superchargers. Staff was super nice and happy to give us some local information. We landed at Range Country on a snowy December night, with the temperature sitting at a steamy -5 degrees Fahrenheit. Robin greeted us warmly, shortly after midnight with a smile and thorough instructions. The lobby was immediately charming, clean, and warm, with a plate of free cookies that I expect may have even been cooked in the host's personal quarters. As we found our room, we were treated to more of the same. The room was perfectly clean and the bed slept quite comfortably... and I must note that my beautiful traveling companion is quite elective when calling a bed comfortable; however, she noted a great night of sleep. The remainder of the hotel, as well as the room, continued with the old western charm. Wood accents were found throughout, as well as some pretty interesting historical photographs. There is also an interesting doll collection, as noted in other reviews. We decided to send the dolls some good vibes, while recounting horror films from childhood with a slowly turning lock falling to the ground as the dolls come to life. The price was incredibly reasonable and the coffee was pretty top notch for some hotel drip. Reasons for not going five stars: 1) the heater in the room was a little tricky. Couldn't seem to land at a comfortable medium. 2) the breakfast may be a little overstated. Square powdered egg "patties" and sausage links were the hot portion. Plenty of fruit, bread, and cereal for the morning carb bomb, if you're into that sorta thing. read more

Our stay here was nice. We did not have reservations but lucky for us we got a room. The woman who checked us in was so friendly. She was very accommodating to my kids and I. She pointed out where everything was and made sure we knew that there was coffee, hot cocoa, juice , hot tea and cookies to enjoy( for free). The room was a good size and it was clean. No funky odors no stains just a nice clean room. If we pass through here again it's a place I'd stop. Price was reasonable. read more

Unassuming hotel with cowboy charm. It was $90 for the night and we needed to stop on our long drive for the night. The check in was very nice, cookies and a comfortable double room with refrigerator and double sinks. Just what my family of four needed. Limited breakfast with egg "slices", sausage, cinnamon rolls, toast oj and Apple juice. Some other quick items. Lots of cute southwestern decorations, but we were only there to sleep and had to get to Rapid City by 10am. read more

My wife and I happened to stay here on February 27, 2014, simply because it was right next to the Tesla Supercharger station. We were very pleasantly surprised. The decorations were in old, country western style but the building was obviously very new and spotless. The staff was very kind and helpful. There were indications it was a family run operation. Homemade cookies were always available, for example, as well as coffee in the very spacious lobby with a vaulted ceiling. The rooms were large and new. Best of all, the cost was only $60 for the two of us, a price that seemed to be very well worth what we got in return, namely a computer in the lobby, in-room Wi-Fi, a nice indoor pool, and hot tub. I grabbed a business card on the way out the door intending to use it later when I finally got time to submit a review. It appears I got the business card of the owner. We had made reservations earlier in the day so we could stop and sight see on our trip to Indiana . When we arrived shortly before midnight , we were told there were no rooms. Even though I had a confirmation email from them, all I got was a Polite "oh well" there's nothing we can do . It was obvious that they filled all of the rooms with walk-ins before checking for online reservations. We had to drive another two hours to Pierre. Poorly done ! read more

My husband and I found ourselves at the Days Inn Rangecountry atfer totaling our car just a few miles West of Murdo. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The lobby is kitschy, but "cute" with stuffed animals everywhere you look. And the breakfast is actually served out of an old-fashioned Food Wagon! Adorable. Murdo is such a small town but everyone that we came across were incredibly nice. We ended up spending two nights here, and the room was very comfortable and quiet. If we ever find ourselves driving cross country again, Murdo and the Rangecountry would make for a very nice resting point. read more

Stayed here and I'm guessing its a nicer hotel than the other ones at this exit. The room was nice and clean but didn't have soap, shampoo, etc. I did ask the front desk and they gave me a little bottle of shampoo that looked like it came from other another hotel. The breakfast area is kind of awkward. They had coffee, tea, juice, cold cereal, powdered egg squares, cinnamon rolls, sausage and bacon. The people looked like extras from a scary movie, staring and not talking to each other. I stayed a few days and didnt know if they were scary children of the corn people, deliverance, or if randomly bizarre folks decided to stay here. I tried to stay clear of the lobby. I'm giving it 4 stars because I did sleep good, was safe, and that is what a hotel is for. read more

Disgusting. Stains on the sheets, nothing looked to be wiped down at all. Hair all over the bed and bathroom. The TV and the phone didn't work. The bed is rock hard. Turned the heat on and the smoke alarm came on from all the dust that came out of the AC unit and stunk up the Room. The actual pillows were also stained. No one was wearing a mask but my family and i. I had to change the sheets and wipe everything down before I felt comfortable. If I could give this 0 stars I would. read more

VERY friendly and clean. Pet friendly, too. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool and liked the western decor, especially the saddles and the wagon wheel tables. There is also a small playset in the front. It's rather quaint inside. The breakfast is simple but is served out of a wagon and there were fresh donuts! During the day you will find apples and cookies in the lobby. There are postcards and small souviners in the lobby, reasonably priced. If you stay here, you should know this is a little town. You won't find much open at night time and the pizza place next door closed at 9p during the night. Cost was $80 for a two queen beds. No charge for pets. read more

Driving with our dogs from Seattle to Orlando, we were resigned to staying in whatever cheap hotel we found at the end of our long days on the highway. I can hardly describe our grateful surprise when we happened upon RANGE COUNTRY LODGING in Murdo, SD. Their 2 star rating seemed appropriate for their low price of just over $100, but doesn't accurately reflect our experience. The property was clean and well maintained with an inviting lawn and lots of flowers. The lobby was impressively decorated with an interesting variety of taxidermied animals, a chuck wagon & natural wood, giving it a real hunting lodge feel. The desk attendant was friendly, welcoming & efficient. Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable, adorably decorated & well amenatied with frig, microwave, WIFI, cable TV, USB plugs, etc. (They even have electric vehicle charging stations.) The beds were cozy & the shower was nice & hot with good water pressure, but most importantly, it was clean. We didn't get a chance to use the indoor pool/hot tub but they looked fun. We got a quiet night's sleep, then enjoyed a hot breakfast at the chuck wagon (included). We were so impressed! Our entire experience left us recharged & ready for our next long day, though we didn't want to leave. I think Range Country Lodging's 2-star rating should be reevaluated. Ultimately we had a "5 star experience." If we ever have a reason to pass through South Dakota again, you can bet we'll be staying at Range Country Lodging! read more

Besides the fact that this motel is easy on the wallet and cute to boot, if you're a fan of taxidermy this is the place for you. The lobby is literally a stuffed animal showcase, but in a not-so-tack way, believe it or not. The staff is super friendly, the rooms are clean, and there is also an indoor pool and hot tub. Yes, it's not the most up-to-date place on earth, but who cares? There's hot breakfast in the morning, but just know that it's basically the cheap eggs and sausage, although they do have cereal, fruit, and oatmeal packets. I stayed in the winter, so the town was basically a ghost town and the prices were very cheap, and although I'm sure they increase around Sturgis time it's probably not by much. The hotel formerly known as Days Inn is now just Range Country. I'm not just saying that so you will find it more easily (it still comes up if you put Days Inn in your GPS) but the quicker they shed that Days Inn tag, the better. No offense to Days Inn, but Range Country is not a run of the mill chain hotel, it is way cooler. Really clean, unique lobby. Comfortable beds and a good number or places to plug things in, sensibly placed. It isn't super posh or lavish, but it's also really inexpensive. The staff was also super accommodating. My crew and I stayed here the morning a wicked hailstorm came through, we took shelter under their awning and in their lobby. The lady at the front desk brought us a pile of towels to dry off with and then wouldn't accept any gratuity. I told her I would let everyone know of her generosity and patience with 2 van loads of people standing around cheering as clouds turn daytime into dusk, and who were compelled to get drenched and/or pummeled trying to collect large hail stones from the parking lot. I shouldn't be surprised to find a hotel like Range Country or a town like Murdo this far north, that stretch of I-90 between there and Sturgis is pretty sweet. I wouldn't hesitate to say I think it is better than Route 66, and I suppose 10 million Harley Davidson owners already know this. If you're looking for a good road trip this summer, seriously, beat the rush and consider going north. Stop for the night in Murdo- Range Country is the most bang for the buck ever. My only regret is I wish I'd have had more time to sleep in my room. read more

It's very nice as everyone stated. I arrived early spring so the town is a ghost town and there's basically very few people living there. I rated 4 stars because I didn't see anyone posts about the dolls collection in the window at the hallway. I don't know if it's just me but they can be quite creepy to me at night. Just think people need to know this before checking in. Over all it's a nice place if you are not afraid of dolls. read more

Stopped by here after seeing that the Best Western had no vacancy. The clerk sent us over to see if they had vacancy. This hotel was nicer than expected. We did not use many of the amenities such as indoor pool and hot tub because we arrived late. The receptionist was very nice and the hotel was very clean. I took the outside because I liked the fact you can park in front of your door and with my elderly Mother with that was amazing. The beds are super comfortable and the room was extremely clean... We stayed at Range Country the first night of our vacation and were rather pleased. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and staff was friendly. Our room was close to the staff laundry room so the hallway smelled alot like smoke (staff, I assume) but our room was fresh and clean -- the smoke smell at the end of the hallway would be my only complaint. Pool area was small, but clean and we enjoyed swimming there. My kids loved the old western and doll decor around the hotel and thought the breakfast wagon was cool. There is a park just across the street -- walking distance -- which is nice for families. Morning breakfast was great-- hot and cold options. Locally owned hotel with character -- it was a nice stay and we'd stop again if we needed a place in the area. read more
