I found out that it's a volunteer business, so the two women behind the counter were just there for something to do. I thought that it was really great that they just go there to help out the woman who owns the shop. It was really cute and organized and a lot of great options of clothing, households, decorations, and shoes to look through! At first I thought it was a little bit steep for the two dresses and two pairs of shoes that I bought at $37 but at the same time I did get 2 dresses that were Michael Kors & Talbots. The shoes were Crocs and Noat. They often have a lot of great deals and specials, like this week was half off green tags! Therefore, I got my Michael Kors dress for $7, and that's actually a pretty good deal! I will definitely be going back more often to check out the new items they have!

They helped her try on several shoes before she bought two pair. she had a little squeak in her walker, and they also oiled that up, so no more squeaks, I certainly would recommend this store to anybody that wants orthotic shoes and even non-orthotic shoes I bought a pair of myself. A family member AND my podiatrist recommended Dansko shoes. This retail store carries a big variety of Danskos and have properly fit me for 6 styles over the last year or two. I'm not shoe-obsessed and these shoes are expensive, but this store has helped me adjust the shoes to fit (even adding a felt bumper in one spot and tightening a strap because my left foot is slightly smaller than my right). Although I've been helped by a number of people here, Mimi is the person I like best. She has a great attitude and knows A LOT about shoes. Once in a while, she'll gently push me to try a different style (or even different manufacturer) and I've been really pleased with the results. Here's the thing... retail stores often end up becoming a showroom for stuff people buy online. You go in, you try on a bunch of stuff, you write down the name of the shoe and brand that fits, you walk out, you go home, and you buy it for less online. It's true that you may get a better deal now and then, but this place will help you find what really fits AND adjust them for you. I often buy the first pair of a style I like there and then buy another pair online for $5 or $10 less. That said, the kinds of shoes I wear almost NEVER go on sale... so sometimes I end up getting them at Holmes Shoes instead. They also have $79.00 and $59.00 sale table with a buy-one-get-one-for-half-off tables often enough that it's worth it to go in and check every few weeks when you're in the Metro Center. Specialists in this store know a lot about how to fit you for your line of business. They have everything from sandals to shoes to sexy shoes and steel-toed work boots. They can also tell if you're not wearing the right size, width and style of shoe so that you can buy something that *actually fits* and stop hurting yourself. This also helps you from getting foot problems later (like what I have, or bunions, or corns, etc.) It's worth it to go here--if only a few times a year to get 1 pair of something that is really good for your feet. Then, if you want to go online and click through 227 pages to try and find it $10 cheaper (which washes out when you pay $9.95 for shipping), hey, that's cool. I get it. Holmes. Awesome place!

This was the most terrible customer service experience i've ever experienced. I was visiting my…read morefamily in my hometown (I live in Chicago) and wanted to get my dress downstate so I could be with my family when picking it out and so I could benefit from how much more affordable things are in my hometown. Trying on dresses was going great and we had a couple of very solid contenders until i came out wearing a new option and saw exactly what the comments were describing. The owner who had been super nice to me when I came in was now screaming at the other group who had been trying on dresses about how they wasted her time and should have gone to another shop first and "why did it need to be her shop." This immediately made my whole appointment take a turn and I felt like if I didn't buy a dress I was also going to be yelled at. At the end of the day, I didnt feel like anything I tried on was exactly "the one" but I did have a couple that i liked and wanted to think more on. I asked my sales associate if she could keep a record of the ones we liked so if we called to purchase they would know which dress to order for us. She confirmed and let us know we could talk to the owner if we wanted to on our way out. I declined and we all tried to exit as quickly as possible to avoid a lecture for not purchasing. As we exited the business the owner screamed out the door "if you're not going to ask the price of the dress you are not going to purchase" my MOH and I popped back in (this was a mistake) and proceeded to also get a lecture where she demanded to know if i wanted to purchase downstate or where I lived, if I wanted a dress from another appointment I had had that morning more, if i had more appointments that day. Then she demanded I "just be straight with her, she's a person" -- it felt like I was going through a breakup. I've never had to explain to a store owner why I didn't want to purchase their product. She kept harping on us not wanting to know the price until I let her know I wasn't concerned about it because she had promised to stay within my budget and my mom told me she was willing to pay whatever if it was the dress I wanted. My maid of honor call d her out for being abrasive and said "honestly we were considering the dress she liked but this is extremely abrasive and ruining our experience" and then I told her "I actually really liked the dress but now I feel like I'm in trouble." After this she did dramatically switch her attitude. We had one last appointment that day and I had an absolutely amazing experience. What really sucks is the dress I liked the best was the one I tried on at down the aisle but after this experience I would never give her my money - And mostly I just don't want to have to deal with going back to this shop and risk getting in trouble again. I have a lot of friends back in my hometown engaged and looking for dresses and I will be sharing this experience and warning all of them not to visit this shop - wanted to post here as well for anyone considering! We had a really great day dress shopping except for our experience here - there are a lot of great shops in central IL. What a bizarre experience. At least it's a good story my mom, MOH and aunts will laugh about for years to come.

She's very knowledgeable in her field and uses her knowledge to help her customers get the perfect fit for their dress. Amy seems to really love making each bride to be feel welcomed and valued. My father insisted I try to find a dress there because he was so impressed with how comfortable she made him feel out of his element. Ultimately I decided on a custom gown and can not wait to see the finished product! Each step of the way, I felt as if Amy gave me her undivided attention and worked around my schedule and needs.
