Manager Ross in grasslands with yellow wildflowers in background

Lynne and Ross are the fairy new Ranch Managers and are working hard on improving the experience for their guests. I have visited most of the dude ranches in AZ and one in California and two in New Mexico.I only stayed 3 nights but got the pleasure of riding 3 different great horses. I'm a experienced rider and LOVED the fast rides. Trotting, loping and a all out gallop, yahoo! Best rides where just me and Ross or with the "Ranch hand" Adam. I'm all about the horses and they are well taking care of, good tack and well trained. Adam was fun to ride with and had great insight on horsemanship and border Issues.I only wish they offered longer and more fast rides. I alway want more riding ,always.I love that a lot of ranches are now offering the option of either the all American plan which is everything is included or the one I chose which is that you pay for room and breakfast and all other meals and activities are extra. The history of the ranch is interesting and it was cool getting to ride right up to US border wall. I saw mule deer, rabbits, rattlesnake (one was enough), cattle, free roaming horses on Mexico's side of fence and many different birds. My room wasn't great, pillows where flat, twin bed needed better mattress pad and a blanket, needed different paint, curtains where too short and should be darker as you wake up when the sun raises. Having said that, the water was hot,a/c heat worked good, had a big closet and a nice fireplace( I think wood was wet as I couldn't get a fire started). The breakfast was good but not fantastic.Still I would return as the riding was wonderful.

This is a no frills authentic working ranch with the staff to create a memorable experience. The horseback riding is outstanding and wrangler Ross and stable manager wife Lynne are wonderful teachers. The cattle herding was an unexpected treat where I felt my horse skills were really tested. Ross is a cowboy legend having been a wrangler or mule packer since his youth. Watching him herd is magic. He is a Cowboy Poet legend and will recite poetry if you're inclined (you need to listen to his stories!) Lynne has ridden horses all her life and is a wealth of knowledge. These two along with Nancy the GM cater to every ranch detail. The rides were breathtaking, taking place morning and late afternoon. We took ATVs out to the 200 year old ruins and Indian rock paintings on the property which I highly recommend. The food is great, the beds really comfortable too. The ranch is part of the old west history and we were lucky enough to experience it

The AAC put up our archaeological field school for two summers and we couldn't have asked for better hosts. In addition to becoming our temporary lab, the AAC does a whole lot to support the Arivaca community and beyond. They even starting a crop circle to grow seeds of Native American crops that were destroyed by drought in 2012. They run a preschool and an exercise/pilates group. In the back, they have a room where a massage therapist has appointments. They have leased their space to artists and activists and more. They have two guest rooms they rent to visitors which are colorful, clean, and welcoming. And they're constantly thinking of ways to expand. Jill in particular has this phenomenal can-do, no-BS attitude that immediately puts me at ease and assures me that everything that needs to get done, will get done, and in the best way possible. This woman is so resourceful it's inspiring. If you need a place to stay while in Arivaca, definitely give them a go. And if you need to know ANYTHING at all about the area, ask. They know and passionately love this area inside and out.

The town was founded in 1878 and has been the home of a hardy, friendly group sense. In the past, accommodations were limited to campers. If you're like me, the thought of sharing a sleeping bag with the local "critters" or sharing a bathroom at an rv park isn't the most appealing way to spend vacation. I'll admit it, I'm a wimp. My idea of roughing it is no HBO. As you can imagine, I was thrilled to learn that there's a nice place to lay your head with comfy beds, fresh linens and free Wi-Fi. There's no TV, but I was happy to trade it for wonderful companions and a beautiful view. The Arivaca Action Center has two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The rooms are tastefully appointed and feature beautiful antique furnishings. Guests can hide in their rooms or enjoy the shared kitchen and living room with locals and visitors. While we were there we got to know an incredible group of graduate students who worked in the desert all day then came to the action center to make dinner, watch movies and hang out on the large front porch during the evening. Once they headed to their camp, the entire place was ours - plenty of couch space to lounge on and a nice, bug table for eating or doing some work. Jill, who runs the center is a lovely, generous woman who makes guests feel like extended family. If you're looking to get away from it all, treat yourself to some time in this remote, wonderful town and enjoy a great stay at the Action Center.

We were the only guest at the time and the quiet was wonderful. The space was clean; the bed was very comfortable; there was full bath and kitchen (fridge had trouble keeping things cold, never got above 45 degrees so take a good ice chest). The kitchen amenities were perfect for making breakfast and a couple of dinners during our 5 night stay. It was nice to have access to a TV but they do need to replace the swivel head which is broken and the TV is at a 45 degree downward angle. We propped it up with a roll of paper towels!! It worked. The outdoor space around the koi pond is so tranquil and pleasant that my husband and I hung out in our PJ and had coffee every morning. At night it was a great place to take in the stunning night skies. If you time it right you get ti watch Karen feed the giant koi Karen was very good at guiding us to the wineries and I can't thank her enough for recommending the Sonoita winery whose MeCaSah wine is truly an award winner. We also went the Vera Earl Beef which sell aged beef..so good. Also of note is the Copper Brothel Brewery where I had the best chicarrones ever and I don't want to leave out The Corner Scoop for the best breakfast burritos. All in all it was so enjoyable and hope to return.

Apparently this is one of the first places the missionaries came to, and there's a very palpable special energy throughout the quarters. The place itself feels historic yet comfortable, from the tasteful art pieces thoughtfully placed across the property down to the comfortable beds in every room. Many of us here have slept better here than we have in recent memory. The views are special, and the pool and pool side grill are majestic. From the moment you walk through the magical corridor, you are mesmerized by the original art on the walls (painted by the namesake of the Hacienda)...you know there is something alluringly unique about this place! Come to find out it is what compelled Nissa's Mom to buy this magical place! The main house is artistic, inviting and homey chic. Our room was tucked away just enough to still feel apart of this warm hug of a Casa. The huge windows showcase the ridiculously stunning view of their property and just stepping outside you are audience to a melodic concert of birds, cows, bees and other delights galore! Cocktail hour was just perfect, complete with homemade chips, fresh guacamole, yummy wine and engaging conversation. Nissa shared her families story with such love and detail, what a gift! Our breakfast of powdered sugar dusted, artistic fruit ladened Dutch pancakes with thick cut bacon the next morning was ridiculously scrumptious and lovingly made by Nissa, she is extremely multifaceted in her array of talents! As you explore the grounds you are greeted by sweet dogs, free roaming chickens and maybe even a precocious, engaging Princess of a young Lady named Rain! The sparkling pool calls to you, love the whimsical vintage tiles! You are just floating literally as well as from the intoxicating energy you feel as you meander under the "Fairy Pine", spreading her wings of needles with her cones the fairies live in that turn into rose cones that Nissa makes into art you see all around the Casa... it's undeniably ethereal stuff! To my delight, Nissa fit us in on a holiday weekend no less for a sunset horseback ride. Emmanual, the resident cowboy and Ranch guru, is an absolute gem of a human, brotherly vibe from the moment we met him. The ride around the property blew us away, from a mini cattle drive, weaving through trees and brush, then making our way up to a sweet vantage point to catch the sunset. Truly a way to feel even more connected to this Hacienda! The adventure continued with Emmanual the next day when we had a spontaneous roping lessons by the pool and a shared cookout where we were honored by the presence of Nissa, Jeff, Rain and even the pups joined! Flawless experience that I look forward to repeating and most definitely will be back!
