Best customer service and delicious and inexpensive breakfast tacos, which is a rarity these days. Bless this place!

I stumbled on this cafe by accident as I was actually looking for another new business that also…read moreserves breakfast. So, once I arrived I decided to try it out rather than backtrack to my intended destination. Upon entry I was greeted by three or four employees and seated immediately. The waitress brought me ice water and I also ordered coffee, which was very good. I looked over the menu and chose my favorite breakfast when in the Valley; Huevos a la Mexicana. The breakfast plate also comes with fried potatoes, refried beans and either toast or choice of tortillas. I always choose corn tortillas and these are very good, appearing to be home made vs typical store bought. They are thicker and have a more pronounced corn flavor. When my breakfast arrived I was surprised at the portion size, particularly the eggs. It was indeed, a large portion. It were filled with lots of diced onion, jalapeños and tomato and all appeared to be grilled prior to being added to the scrambled eggs. I also asked for salsa verde and this definitely did not disappoint. It was creamy and very spicy. Not thin and vinegary. It's the salsa verde that takes this dish over the top. The fried potatoes were the typical fare, cubed and fried. Maybe a bit larger dice than usual, but still cooked through and a bit crunchy. The refried beans were better than most places and had more flavor. I really enjoyed them. As stated earlier, the tortillas were good with a bit of chew to them, not thin and falling apart. And the coffee was really good for a restaurant that doesn't specialize in coffee. Rich, robust but not burned tasting. My cup never ran dry as the waiters/waitresses were always around, ready to top it off. The price was reasonable too. Not as cheap as one place I go to frequently but not as high as most small cafe/restaurants locally. I have returned three times in the weeks following my first visit. I can see this becoming my new favorite breakfast joint here in the RGV. Drop in and give them a try. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

First for the good things: the restaurant itself is super cute and it feels like you're eating inside of an old house, and the salsas that they brought out for our food (the two pictured) were quite good. Now for the not so good things. Service was not the best. Our waitress was friendly but it seemed like she was overwhelmed. She brought us our drinks and the first salsa and said she would come back with chips. She then never came back and began attending to other tables. We had to remind her about the chips. She then brought out the food and I was brought the wrong order. My boyfriend patiently waited for me to get my food so we could eat, but I felt bad because his food was getting cold. The food was not good. Nothing had flavor and almost everything needed salt. The first salsa needed salt, and our food needed salt. My migas tasted like nothing. The beans were good and were not canned beans and, as I stated above, the two salsas she brought out were good, but that was it. The salsas salvaged my food because otherwise it had no flavor. One of our forks was also filthy and had old cheese on it, so we couldn't use it. We weren't the only ones having issues. The table next to us was another couple and the husband was also brought out the incorrect order but his wife was given the correct order. The waitress (same as ours) took forever to bring him his food and his wife said her food was getting cold while waiting for his food. The husband did not want to remind the waitress and we heard him say, "I want to see how long it takes her to remember my food." We decided we would not be back. Not sure what the hype is because we just didn't see it.
