If you come to Cancún, make it a point to come here. You get to ride through the jungle with pleasant company. The horses were adorable and our tour guides were friendly, fun, knowledgeable about everything in the area and of the horses. So you get instructions on how to get to the Ranch and how to get in, the road is a dirt road, so just be mindful of that and if you can get your hands on maybe or a truck or jeep, maybe that's a better choice than the rental Chevy Cruze we were in because it does get bumpy and messy. Once, you get in, the tour guides smile and welcome you. You're in good hands because they show you around, or let you wander and explore the ranch a bit. Sign your waivers, take some water, hear a little bit about the horses and how to handle them, and you're off in the jungle. Our tour guide was very informative and guided us safely through the jungle, whilst ensuring we had a great experience. And a great experience it was. One of a kind, worth it, unlike any of the other horse rides I've been on. And it was a pretty long one too. I've been on some where it was over quickly, however, here they take their time with letting you take your time to enjoy. Our guide spoke 3 languages, so we had. A little fun doing little back and forths in Spanish, English, and German. But she was fluent in those languages, so that's good to know. Last thing, the horses here are rescued. There are some companies that only want these horses to race them or to use them for tours (where they would be overworked, wearing the wrong equipment, etc.) so that they can make money off of them. The horses in those companies are abused until they can't make them money anymore and they are sent to the slaughter. Lisa, the owner of this company, saves them. She buys them and takes care of them. Hats off to her and the team that works hard to protect these horses. I think our guide said that there were 11 horses there right now. That is expensive upkeep, so if you're ever in the area, give them your business and help them help the poor horses. Everyone wins if you come here.

This horse back riding experience was the BEST part of my birthday trip to Cancun. If you're planning to go riding, this place is a must!! My husband and I did the private ride with the picnic. It was an amazing ride through the jungles of Mexico. Our guide Tim was really nice and a pleasure to talk to and Mary did a great job of setting everything up perfectly. Trino, the resident horse whisperer was also super nice but quiet. I love the fact that all of the horses and dogs there are rescue animals who were given a better life on the ranch. The picnic was super romantic and the whole thing was worth every dollar! Although I do have to admit there were a lot of bugs but what can you expect in nature, so just prepare for that.

My husband and I try to be conscious travelers, and, to be honest, were a bit skeptical of what I thought was a gimmick - a place advertising as a rescue to get more people in. We booked it anyway, as I love horses and I love riding and wanted to see what they were all about. I am so glad that we did and to have my skepticism squashed almost instantly! I emailed about pricing and the different rides that they offer and Lisa, the owner, was prompt and thorough in her responses. Up to the date of our ride, we were in regular correspondence, and when we called to ask for additional directions the day of our ride, she was available and helpful. My husband and I booked a private tour and we had two guides with us. The ride itself takes you through a jungle trail, there is a stop mid ride at a half constructed vacation property where you can explore a little bit of the terrain and see a little cenote.. A bit bummed that there was no longer the ability to ride on the beach, but we knew that going in and hopefully an opportunity arises for them to be able to do this again. My husband is more of a beginner rider, and I am a little more advanced, given that we did a private ride, there was an opportunity for me to go off with one of the guides to do a little cantering up and down a straight stretch of road. What I was impressed with the most during our ride was how amazing the horses were. These are not your regular nose-to-tail, dead on the sides and dead on the bit horses. The horse I got the pleasure to ride that day was Rey, a 14(?) year old gelding that was saved 8 years prior from being bait during bull fights. They would let young horses loose in the arena to warm the bulls up for the bullfighter. Oftentimes horses will get wounded from the bull's horns, and Rey had a scar on his hind from when a bull gashed him with its horn. My husband rode Inyo, a horse that was abandoned and found nearly starved. Rey was amazing. He really listens to you as a rider, and is so easy going, given his history. He had the smoothest canter and would slow down, speed up and translated your cues with grace and ease. Inyo was a very sound, quiet horse and my husband felt very confident on him. When we got back to the stables after our ride, we were able to give the horses a treat. And, fair warning, while these horses are very very well trained, some of them can have some bad habits on the ground. As with any new animal, I'd advise to always approach with softness and respect. Rey did try to nip me when I was turned away ;) All in all, this place is the real deal. They love their animals and all of their horses are rescues. All are trained well, and treated with dignity and respect, as all animals should. The guides were superb, and if we ever go back to Cancun/Playa we will definitely book another ride!

I really enjoyed racing down the beach on a big beautiful chestnut horse in my bikini.
