Beautiful day today at the monastery. Take the shrine trail and visit the library. The shrine trail takes about 45 minutes if you stop at each of the 7 stations. We left with some fresh honey and a few other items from the shop.

I love the Ramakrishna Monastery; It brings peace into my world. Having just gone through a divorce, I feel this ashram is very therapeutic. Please, please, please respect the sanctity of the monk's mission and respect their wishes. When visiting, remember...Silence is golden; suitable dress and demeanor are required; no picnics; no littering; no dogs; no bicycles, and no cellphone use.

Another small update: I'm finishing my schooling and am in a world religions class. The professor who teaches it is a big fan of Ramakrishna and his teachings; and when he mentioned this monastery, I was shocked! Such a small world! Blessings to all.

Spent almost my entire Sunday here and had an absolutely incredible experience. I was hiking nearby in the canyon and saw this place up on the hill. Wandered over and next thing you know I'm sitting in their "chapel" for the 11am lecture and then being invited to a private meditation session at the property's shrine/meditation building. I didn't get to do the mile-long trail on the grounds...but I will definitely check it out next time; it has shrines to all the world's major religions along it. Pretty awesome, I walked up to the beginning of it but didn't realize at the time that it was the start of a trail so I only saw one of the shrines. This monastery is based on the Vedanta philosophy; the monks here live in solitude with a focus on balance and contemplation...if you converse with one, you will notice that socially, they are pretty timid and slow speaking; at least that was my experience. They grow all their own vegetables here, harvest honey, and although they certainly don't live primitively, I got the idea that they try to live off the land as much as possible. I have always had a deep and frankly nonsensical interest in Hindu philosophy, Indian culture (and men...*swoon*), the Hare Krishna movement, etc...and the Vendatic school of thought is just another welcomed bridge on my path to spiritual balance and education. What I connected with the most here, which I haven't while studying other Dharmic religions (Buddhist, Hindu, Sikhi), is that they put much more favor/emphasis on an individuals quest for truth. It felt so much more advanced than other religions I've studied because of all the thought systems involved and the focus on self-realization and Brahman, the ultimate nature of reality. The lecture I attended (which was incredibly intellectually stimulating) really touched on that concept of self-realization as well as the importance of balance and creating polarity in your soul. I left feeling...for lack of any other appropriate word, enlightened and couldn't help smiling on my entire hike back at how wonderful the universe is to me in bringing me random and wonderful experiences like this one.

Tranquil and serene this place was so beautiful! Perfect for meditation, worship, yoga or just to clear your head. I'm not a highly religious person but I couldn't help feeling closer to god here. This place is worth the visit. I had a very enlightening experience and will be returning again. It couldn't have been much more than a mile so you could bring kids without a problem. It's open from 3-5PM and there are hardly any people at all.

My favorite shrine, a great place to meditate!

I left feeling revived and closer to my self than I've felt in a long time.

There are plenty of parking spots for free. Entered the visitor center and was given a rundown by employee. Proceeded to the temple, which is the most incredible thing I've seen. It felt like we were transported out of Cali. You place your shoes on a shoe rack before proceeding up the stairs. The temple was beyond words. No phones, talking, hats or shoes allowed inside. Took the elevator to basement, where we walked through a museum before exiting back to the shoe rack. Went back to the visitor center, where we enjoyed browsing the gift store and cafe. There is an amazing selection of snacks. The experience was 10/10.

My…read morefriends and I made the trip to Chino Hills to visit the Sonic Speed Cafe that was coming to an end in May, so we finally bit the bullet and made the trip over, but knowing it was pretty small I looked up other things to do in the area and this temple popped up! We made the mistake of following Google Maps' directions and it led us to a gate that was closed. Not being familiar with the location, we decided to just park on the street and walk until we found an open gate in the scorching sun that day. That was a mistake, although I suppose I appreciate the exercise. If you find gates closed, just drive around the venue until you find an open one. There's plentiful parking in the venue and it's free! Security will give you a sheet with a list of things not to do. FYI, there's a rule of no backpacks, but specifically this is in regards to large ones. I panicked a little bit because I always just have a small backpack on me in lieu of a purse, but the kind lady at check-in explained that it was fine. They allow photos of the outside of the temple, but no photos of the interior. Shame, but I completely understand. I really highly recommend visiting this place if you get the chance. This is by far the most beautiful and insanely detailed architectural temple I've seen in Socal. The interior was absolutely breathtaking. If I'm ever in the area again I'd stop by just to see it and take anyone else I know to see it.
