First let me say that I do not like English version of the butchered Indian foods, the chick peas, the overly sweet curry, or the diarrhea like tikka masala. Real Indian food is challenging, the over whelming flavor is like a jalapeno, it's supposed to scare you, get your attention, which leads to an enthusiastic experience of sharing the dish's with your friends. Saravanaa does all that, around the world they are spreading like bootleg dvd's and counterfeit purses. But who cares, when it's great, not pretentious, this is where taste buds lead you. I should take off a star for the long lines, but in my heart, I cant.

I ordered a Strongbow and the Chicken Jalfrezi. The beer was ice cold, refills on it and my water were offered at the perfect times, and the Jalfrezi was spicy and a huge portion. The garlic naan was also fantastic. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting London. It has reasonable prices, good portions, and amazing food. I felt very welcomed and satisfied. I asked the server for vegetarian options that are not too spicy. He said he would make a 3-course vegetarian meal, especially for me. I was the only one in the restaurant on a rainy day, so I had the whole place to myself. The ambiance was chill, and they provided a great service. Unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy the meal because the level of spiciness was at 10. I should have said 0 to 1. I get acid reflux, and heartburn so I really shouldn't be eating spicy food. Not the restaurant's fault, but I should have been more specific.

It's always full to the brim in here, so it's best to book well in advance. The place plays host to all of the local celebrities (by 'all' I mean about 2), and has been critically acclaimed by the Observer. It's a definite hotspot in SE London. The food is perfectly cooked. I have eaten here a number of times and have never been disappointed. Of course, they have all of the greats that usually appear on an Indian starter menu - bhajis, samosas, dhal, and who could forget the popadoms served with home made pickles. Try not to fill up on them before the mains - a rookie mistake made in all good restaurants. The paneer tandoori is delicious, almost so delicious that you forget about the guilt you would usually feel if you were eating a plate of grilled cheese elsewhere. Slightly different to the usual curry houses, here you pick your main meat/veg and then choose from the list how you would like it to be cooked. It's great for those who are particular about their curry! Tandoori Nights is a classy, stylish and sophisticated Indian restaurant, well deserving of its food awards. The prices do reflect the quality of the food meaning it's not necessarily cheap, but if it's good food you're after then this is the place to head to. Just book early to avoid disappointment!

The key difference here is the wonderful absence of excessive oil in the curry: too often food at Indian restaurants can be too heavy, caused by excessive amounts of oil/butter being added to fill out the curry. Here, that's nowhere to be seen, allowing you to enjoy the array of flavours in the curry and fill up on the generous servings of rice instead. The beer served is the usual Kingfisher. Desserts are pre-prepared ice-cream dishes, which my friend and I declined. Overall, comfortably above-average.

For starters, we had the prawns and veggie samosas. Prawns were good and my family enjoyed the veggie samosas. Please not there are only 2 to an order. Entrees included black lentils w/garlic naan and chicken biryani. One can't handle spice and is lactose intolerant, and she was sniffling through the whole meal lol. The black lentils were good but the full flavor wasn't there and it wasn't as creamy as I've had in the past. The best ones I've had were in Thailand, but this didn't even come close. For both the lentils and the biryani, we had to add salt to try to enhance the flavor. We decides to give dessert a try and it was just okay. Initially we planned on order the gulag jamun, but it came with Cornish (vanilla) ice cream and I wanted pistachio. They were very inflexible and would not swipe out the ice cream even though they physically have to put the vanilla scoops on top. Overall, we wouldn't be back here. The quality of food is mediocre at best and hospitality could use a facelift.
