We had the most wonderful experience with Rainy City. Meghan and Sada were both excellent midwives and provide world class care. Most of our appointments were with Meghan and she was on call when I went into labor. She was a wonderful coach through the entire process and the postpartum care. I felt safe all the way through. We had our baby at home and everything was really smooth. They provide you with all the tools you will need to prepare you for a comfortable home birth (we did a water birth - highly recommend). Don't worry about what you need to think of, they have it all laid out and ready for you. They give detailed information and resources and have no trouble answering questions and easing any anxiety. This was our first baby and if we ever do it again I would do it this way in a heartbeat with them as or providers. I can't say enough good things about our experience. Meghan felt like my guardian, I don't know how else to explain that she is a master midwite. read more

Rainy City provided excellent care for both of my pregnancies and deliveries. Meghan and Dr. Sada made me feel empowered in every decision. They explained my options at every turn and helped me determine what was best for me, without trying to convince me one way or another. I always felt seen and heard by them. They are such strong women, and showed their confidence and professionalism with every step of my journey. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering midwifery care. read more

My son is nearly four now and we left Seattle two years ago, but I still rave about Dr. Sara to everyone I know. I did not deliver my son with the midwives at Rainy City, however, I did see them for early prenatal care before my case got too risky and I had to transfer to hospital midwives at 30 weeks. This wasn't a big deal at all and the transition was smooth. After my son's birth, Dr. Sara was his primary care provider and four years later I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around how wonderful she was for him and I, especially in those early months. Because of issues with tongue tie, breastfeeding was challenging. It was my goal to find a balance between breastfeeding, pumping and supplementing with formula as needed and Sara made me feel incredibly supported with this and did not judge me at all. (I mean, you'd think no one would judge in this situation, but sadly it is common.) Breastfeeding was still important to me, so Sara did regular craniosacral therapy sessions with my son to try to improve this. She came to our house on several occasions to deliver the service, which truly felt above and beyond. We continued to see her for the following two years for primary care for my son before we moved and every visit was wonderful. She was flexible with our needs during the early days of the pandemic, letting us do telehealth for part of our visit and then come in person for the parts that needed to be in person. Becoming a parent is a huge step in life, and it would benefit all parents to have the support of someone like Dr. Sara in the early years when you're trying to find your groove. read more

Overall the staff at rainy city are educated and helpful. The majority cares about the patient and puts that care head first day-in-and-day-out. However that is not true of the organization as a whole, which still relies on arcane processes to protect their business that have no legal-basis in reality. This portion of their business is happy to lead their patients on with promised care only to revoke this care at any time they see fit with no substantiatable reason, legal or othetwise. Be careful when considering them for primary care! Your healthy baby and a happy mother is not their priority, regardless of what they show you on the surface. You very well could be 30weeks pregnant without a care provider. read more

I'm just a lucky grandma that got to be at MY baby's first baby's birth at Rainy City. And after watching how beautifully they worked with my daughter and husband, I felt they deserved a great review! I was overwhelmingly impressed with the professional and very attentive care my daughter received by the entire staff there. Beth, Megan and Lynn were exceptional in their care of the entire family unit. They instilled confidence with their patience and sage knowledge of every aspect of childbirth, especially for a new young mother and father. Thank you for making this a positive beautiful experience! read more

The midwives at Rainy City are by all means some of my favorite ladies in the universe. Extremely caring, honest, sensitive, great bedside manner, attentive, hard working - the list goes on and on. I delivered two babies with Rainy City - one with Lynn and one with Sara. Both times the women were there and as peaceful and attentive as I needed, but also gave me the space I needed during labor. Both my labors were quite fast, and the midwives were very flexible with that. But even prior to that, my prenatal care was beyond what I could have hoped for. I had several losses prior to being seen by them, and they were all very careful to make sure we were on track to having a healthy pregnancy that went to term. Two labors later, and I couldn't have asked for a more amazing crew to be there for me during my pregnancies and births. For me, the pain of natural child birth comes with a need for silence and not being touched, and they followed those cues very well during my labors which I am very thankful for. I'm not even sure I was touched more than once during my last labor - just a quick heart monitor check for the baby then it was back to letting me do my thing. Their postnatal care is also extremely wonderful. On day 3 of my first born's life, they helped me identify that my first born had lost too much weight as I wasn't producing milk. Within hours they had connected me with a LC and a milk donor. On an extremely heartbreaking day for me personally, already exhausted from having my first baby, Lynn worked tirelessly to make sure that my son was taken care of and that I had the resources I needed to work through this unforeseen hurdle. Beth, Lynn, and Sara are amazing midwives, and you would be very blessed to have them at your side during your pregnancies. Very patient, very kind - just amazing midwives. Thank you all so much! read more

I adore these women! Justine, at the front desk is incredible. Abigail is phenomenal - she exemplifies patience, confidentiality, professionalism, and genuine kindness. She never made me, or my boyfriend feel foolish for our silly questions - which I'm pretty sure we had quite a few! I truly am going to miss our appointments! My family and I are moving to the Midwest so I am not able to carry out the rest of my pregnancy with them or else I would have stayed and given birth at their birthing center. read more

When I was searching for the perfect midwife/ves I found it in Beth Coyote and her team. I was looking for someone who has seen it all and had caught babies for decades. I interviewed Beth Coyote and immediately connected with her. She is very professional, nurturing, experienced and about as real as it gets. Her care is outstanding!!! I also love Geraldine who was her student when I hired Beth originally and felt an instant connection with her too. They make a great team, I would highly recommend then to anyone who wants outstanding care and treatments!!! read more

I unlike the other posters am a Doula and someday hope to be a midwife. I have worked with Beth and Geraldine on a professional level and found them to be very pleasant, competent (actually performing a 'maneuver' on one of my clients that enabled her to dilate to complete and allow her to have the birth she wanted and not transfer which she was facing had Beth not been knowledgeable and amazing at what she does), and have always heard great things of them. In response to the other posts being "plants," that is just laughable. Not only do Beth & Geraldine have far more to do with their time (Catching babies!) than to "plant" postings on here, but isn't yelp supposed to be a forum for testimonials- good or bad? I personally know a client of Rainy City Midwifery and she too had nothing but wonderful things to say about this highly recommended midwife duo! read more

My wife and I can't say enough good things about Geraldine. She was our Doula during the birth of our oldest daughter (whose fifth birthday it is today). She also attended the birth of our second daughter. Having her support during the sometimes stressful situation was a great comfort. She educated us beforehand, took the time to understand what we wanted from the births, and advocated for us when we were too overwhelmed or too busy pushing to speak our wishes. In addition to being a professional and compassionate person, Geraldine is a good friend. I would strongly recommend her and her associates to anyone asking. read more

Rainy City gave me the exact experience I was hoping for. The care was excellent from pregnancy through the early weeks with my baby (and my new body). Everyone at Rainy City was highly educated and experienced, kind, and patient. I needed support from women who truly cared and they exceeded my hopes in every way. I will never be able to repay them for all they did for me but I thought a Yelp review was a good start. Thank you ladies, I'm forever grateful. read more

My wife and I just wrapped up our third birth with this team! Wow, could not be more thankful and appreciative for their care. We live too far for primary care but have made it a priority to maintain our pre/birth experience with Rainy City. Coming from the husband perspective; if your wife is happy, confident and comfortable, it's a good indicator of a good decision. I love this team (no more babies from us), I wish them the best of luck! read more

I found Rainy City through Yelp when I first moved to Seattle and had to figure out how to have a baby here. I am so happy I found them, they were fantastic. During the birth they were really supportive but not overbearing, giving myself and my husband space when they were able to. This was particularly appreciated when my son was born. After the birth however, I had a number issues arise, and Rainy City were amazing, particularly Sara, but really all of them. They were available for questions when I needed, they did a home visit when there was no way I could leave the house, and they followed up to check if I was ok. They were pragmatic and supportive, just what you want in midwives. Because they were so helpful and supportive, I have now chosen to use them as my son's paediatrician. Excited that they can remain in our support network. read more

I wish I could give this place 1,000 stars. I absolute love all the wonderful ladies at Rainy City. I had the most wonderful care during my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. I absolutely adore Sara, Beth, Abby, and Justine (front desk), I was truly nurtured and taken care of. Every appointment I was given undivided attention and all my questions were answered. Not only did I have plenty of time during my appointments (usually scheduled for an hour just in case I had questions or concerns), but Sara and Beth also made house calls after my home birth. I didn't leave my house for two weeks! All my follow up appointments were in the comfort of my own house. I can say enough positive things about their care during my home birth. They were cool, calm, professional, caring, loving, and had so much endurance. They encouraged me when I needed it, and were quiet and calm when that's what the situation called for. I am not sure more babies are in our future, but if so I would definitely return to Rainy City, these women gave me the most special gift of compassionate care during this once in a lifetime first pregnancy experience. read more

I had a great experience here! Had my first child with Rainy City Midwifery at a birth center. I highly recommend this birth team and the pre-natal yoga classes they offer. Everyone is dedicated to you having a positive experience and I absolutely walked away with happy memories of my first pregnancy, labor and birth. This was a total learning experience as I was unfamiliar with midwifery before working with this group and WOW I am amazed at the great work this team does for women and babes :) read more

First of all I have to say that I am a trained midwife, and I have worked with many midwives in the Seattle area (home, hospital, and birth center). Prior to choosing Rainy City Midwifery for my second pregnancy, I had some interaction with Beth Coyote (as an instructor at Seattle Midwifery School) and with Geraldine Lee (as a fresh student midwife). I am a firm believer that there is a midwife for every mother. It is important that every woman find a care provider that she can trust in her most vulnerable moments of pregnancy, labor and postpartum. It is also important that every woman finds a team that will support her to feel her full power and potential as she becomes a mother (for the first time or the tenth time!) and as she makes decisions which are right for herself and her family. These connections were easy for me to make with Beth Coyote and Geraldine Lee. Perhaps I get special treatment because I am a midwife, but I have experienced that special treatment translating to being shafted. Example: when you have a certain expertise, people assume that you can apply it to yourself when you are in need of that expertise. Psychologists usually don't counsel themselves, why should a midwife have to be a midwife to herself? If I had wanted an unattended birth, then maybe that would make sense. My point here is that even though they knew that I have the knowledge and training to take care of women during their pregnancies, labors and postpartum, Beth and Geraldine never left that task to me. They always provided me with top-notch care. Beth and Geraldine attended me for the birth of my second child, a beautiful homebirth about as good as it gets. At the time, Geraldine had just joined the practice and I was a little timid of having the new midwife around, but I was really impressed with her presence and ability to take care of the details (including giving me IV antibiotics since I was GBS+) At that point in my life, I felt that I had more midwifery experience than Geraldine, but in the years that have passed, I have witnessed her transformation to a midwife that I strive to be. She has not only worked at Rainy City Midwifery, but has also covered for other very busy practices in the Puget Sound region. At one point, I think she may have been the busiest midwife in town. She has had the opportunity to gain a lot of experience within a short amount of time, which can be quite rare for midwives who practice on their own. When I became pregnant with my third child, I had no doubt who I would choose for my care. Beth and Geraldine, were my #1 choice. Unfortunately they had stopped doing a weekly clinic in Ballard, but I was willing to travel to Capitol Hill. My kids enjoyed our bus trips over there, and were always happy to go see our midwives. Their clinic is welcoming and spacious. You never have to feel timid about bringing your wild toddlers, they have a nice toy bin to keep them busy. The yard is also fenced so our little ones could play in the shade or draw on the walkways with chalk on sunny summer days. Also, because it is just a midwifery clinic, no worries about hanging around people in the waiting room who are sick. I had a stressful last two weeks of pregnancy due to an ultrasound diagnosis, but Beth and Geraldine were with me every step of the way. Their support was critical to my well-being. They both attended my labor and provided me with outstanding support and skills. I trust their judgment and trust their skills, this is my life and the life of my baby we are talking about here.... These midwives are competent, caring, compassionate and cream of the crop! read more

The birth of both of my sons (6 years apart) were attended by the incredible ladies at Rainy City Midwifery. Everyone from the front desk, to the student midwives, to the midwives themselves - I can't thank them enough for the quality of care we received as a whole family, both before and after birth. Being able to safely and peacefully deliver my children at home is an experience I am profoundly grateful for. I will always treasure the ways Rainy City empowered me on my journey. read more

This review is long overdue since my children are 4 and 6 years old now, but we had wonderful prenatal care and home births with the assistance of Beth and Lynn, who I believe are still at Rainy City. Beth helped instill confidence in my decision to deliver my first born at home more than 6 years ago. Labor was long and tiring for me as a first time mother, but Beth and her team of student midwives were there with their skill and expertise to ensure the process was optimal for me and my babe. I had some postpartum hemorrhaging but Beth was so quick to administer the injection to stop the bleeding I didn't even notice or had time to worry. Their knowledge of the benefits of hot and cold compresses during the pushing stage was a perineal life saver. Ask your team to have those readily available when you're ready to push your babe out into the world. My daughter's labor was the total opposite of my son's. She barely waited for Lynn to arrive, but Lynn was ready to catch her when she made it in the door. Beth and Lynn are seasoned midwives and have many years of experience catching babies and providing prenatal care. I'd definitely recommend their services to any expecting parent. read more

While I appreciate that there's a midwife for every person and that it may take some time to connect with the right one, I also expect that a professional meeting a pregnant woman for the first time would greet a prospective mother with grace and respect.. This is my first pregnancy, and it was unexpected. Rainy City was recommended so highly, I chose to make an appointment for my first prenatal consult there rather than at a better known location, believing (because an MD elsewhere had advised me) that the appointment would include an extensive health history of both myself and the father, would inform me of what to expect from pregnancy, and would help me in my process of assessing whether this is the right time in my life to have a child. I had believed, apparently mistakenly, that midwives would welcome even a woman who was uncertain as yet whether the pregnancy would be continuing or terminated. I learned nothing whatsoever about pregnancy from this consultation. I was told several times what it is that midwives do. I don't understand why that was repeated; it isn't a difficult concept to grasp. Certainly not as unknown and multifaceted as pregnancy itself. The lack of forthcoming information, and the consulting midwife's forced "compassion" -- which read more as pity and condescension than anything else, both served to make me feel alienated and ashamed. Long silences and being asked repeatedly what "other" questions I had (when none had really been answered) left me feeling that it was my responsibility to direct a conversation about a subject I know nothing about. I had hoped to find support and information. Instead I felt judged and dismissed. I am scheduling prenatal consults with two other midwiferies, as well as with an OB. I don't like that after leaving Rainy City, my strongest sense was that the best decision would be an abortion, simply because the health provider I met treated me like an unwanted child myself. It's one thing to state that you don't want to influence a pregnant woman's decision. It's another thing altogether to offer nothing to someone who has scheduled an appointment and taken steps toward engaging your services. Bad job, Rainy City. I hope I'm the only one you've ever done this to. I hope it was a momentary lapse in professionalism. You should at the very least ask your receptionists to explain that your consultations are strictly offered to women who are 100% certain they're ready to have a baby. read more

Do not go here until you are sure you are going to have a healthy pregnancy. If you really want to use them, get an ultrasound first and go after 12 weeks, when chances are higher everything will be OK. I unfortunately can't speak to their level of care for healthy moms and babies, but all I know is how they treat women who miscarry and it is not an experience I would wish on anyone. Very unprofessional in a multitude of ways. read more

I'll try to keep this brief, as I could go on for DAYS about the amazing care I received from the current Rainy City Team - Beth, Bev, Lynn and 3 extraordinary student midwives. Throughout my pregnancy, I gained a confidence in my body and in the natural process of childbirth that completely changed the way I feel about myself, my body, and being a woman. My birth was a dream come true. We had the home birth we wanted, and it was a calm, empowering, joyful, love-filled night. These women are brilliant and skilled at what they do, full of love and wisdom. Not only does this experience make me want to have lots more babies, all with a Rainy City midwife present, but I'm seriously considering a massive career change from high school teacher to doula! The work of a midwife is a gift to humanity - which may sound a bit strong (sorry, I'm an English major), but is just flat out true. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. read more

I had incredible care here. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and will not have the birth I had planned for because I am high risk. But Beth and her team are the reason me and my baby are safe. Very knowledgeable and professional. Anyone that is low risk should 100 percent use raincity. read more

As a first time mom, I can't say enough positive things about the Midwife practice at Rainy City. All of the staff was amazingly caring and competent. Appointments are always one hour which was really helpful and the actual birth experience with them was something that changed my life in such a powerful and profound way that I never expected. They do work with Midwifery students which I was nervous about at first, but they are all so caring and professional that in the end they were all just a member of the team rather than student vs. midwife. I absolutely loved working with them and hope that if we have another child I will have the privilege to do so again. read more

Had a very bad experience with them. Extremely unprofessional for many reasons (I will spare you the details), and put me in at medical risk for becoming septic since I had a baby inside that was no longer living. I do not recommend them. read more
