For classes, there's a clever setup where the pool and showers are separated from the lobby by a full-length "glass" wall, so parents can watch their kids' tutelage without getting too hockey dad about the whole situation. For birthday parties, it's simply free swim with some balls and platforms to make for a sweet respite from winter's chill. Props for the props, but if you have a ledge jumper, be advised: kids can only jump in to the pool from the top step on one of two entry staircases. No big - my son made full use of that rule. Bonus for lots of natural light streaming in to the swimming area, and an entire blow dry bar once you're rinsed and changed. Goldfish is a very festive spot, and I'm definitely curious about their instruction based on this impressive intro to the brand.

There is no way to move around with your child without bumping into someone, there is zero chance the instructors can check on every child/parent, and it is insanely uncomfortable. Each class is exactly the same, there are people who sign up so they can "free swim" with their kids because the lack of structure allows for this type of behavior, and there is no learning curriculum for which my daughter has benefited from over the past 4 months. Absolutely nothing. The kids range in ages in this area and there are fathers allowing their older sons to jump into the pool, soaking those of us with small babies with no consideration of the safety of others. I did not want to make an issue of the young swim instructors hardly paying a cent of attention (it's a beginners class, there's not a ton going on) but not asking these parents to stop this behavior week after week is dangerous and the majority of the reason we won't be returning. We also never had consistent, reliable instructors so there was no opportunity for anyone to get to know our child or us in order to make it a more personal experience. We felt like cattle being rushed in and rushed out and just another body in the pool. It was not a warm and fuzzy experience for us and we are pretty disappointed. After the last class where a child jumped into the pool right next to my 8 month old and the instructors were too busy chatting with each other to notice, we chose to stop our membership immediately. Without giving notice as per the contract, we lost a month of tuition for Goldfish to keep, along with the tokens we had from our baby having chronic ear infections and being unable to attend (as which happens with infants). That in itself was telling that the fee is worth more to them than providing the best experience. While I believe Bill is very nice, I don't agree with the business model and packing people into a pool. Power Aquatics gives space to their members and their instructors are consistent. The children start learning water safety immediately and the program is much more personal.

I know from previous experience that you have to be enrolled (aka paying) in order to use the makeup tokens so I was confused by the sudden shift, but decided to trust them. Now, my son's collarbone is healed and is ready to start swim lessons again, but now I'm being told I have to pay for a full month, instead of using the make up tokens. This plus the fact that the swim instructor (a young gentleman) told me to give my son (1 year old at the time) to him because he had to learn some independence and that it didn't matter if he screamed and cried, it'd be good for him. I was ready to cancel my membership then, but my husband talked me down.

I really wanted to give this place five stars but I just can't, at least not yet…read more Having a young child of 11 months, we wanted to introduce her to swimming and after a few Google searches, found three nearby locations to this Michigan-based franchise, including their newest out in Norwood that opened recently. I filled out an interest form and no more than 90 seconds later, my phone rang and the young one was booked for her first, mini class. A few days went by and off we were on a brisk Saturday morning. The establishment itself is absolutely awesome. Bright colors, a nice fish tank and a huge viewing area which overlooks the pool, with chairs, for the family members who aren't actively participating in the swimming. There's some Tropical-themed changing rooms, a changing table and even a couple of centrifuges to help dry up towels and swim gear. They've thought of everything and it's all kid-themed and immaculate. The staff is relatively friendly, especially the ones in the pool doing the classes and overall we've had a good experience. Well... except for the first time we went. The water heater broke so the pool was much colder than it should have been. No heads up, apologies or refunds. We had to check-in before our second class to make sure that things were back to normal and they were but it would have been nice to know ahead of time because we would have never driven out there knowing that my daughter would spend 30 chilly minutes in the water shivering and miserable. So why only 4 stars? Mostly because of their front desk scheduling process and pricing models. Both times we've been they've been incredibly aggressive in trying to sell us on their $100/month tier good for 1 lesson/a week even though I've repeatedly said that because of scheduling, that we'd rather do the $25 walk-ins. They've told us many times that they can't fit us in many classes because they prioritize the people with the monthly plan which is absurd because why offer walk-ins if you're not going to honor anything? Their schedules are also very limited on weekends with only 2-3 available 30 minute blocks per day which can make it tough for some people to make it. I was kind of hoping they'd have more per day but maybe that'll change over time? Who knows. We plan on continuing to come for the time being and hope that they'll take a more passive approach to this whole $100 plan and let us do the $25 walk-ins. Rumor is they might get rid of it all-together at which point we'll probably go somewhere else since I don't want to commit to a lesson a week. They're aggressive to the point where we've had to walk out and get things scheduled over the phone which was much easier and quicker. Go figure. But that aside, Goldfish is a great franchise and the staff clearly cares deeply about the experience they provide and the facilities are top notch. I'm a fan.

Unfortunately, most programs in our area were designed for toddlers and young children, leaving very few options for older kids who were starting from the beginning. From my first conversation with Logi, I was impressed by the professionalism, patience, and confidence in their ability to help our son not only become comfortable in the water but to truly learn to swim. The entire staff at the Milford location has been outstanding. The instructors are patient, supportive, and highly skilled at working with children who are anxious or fearful. In a surprisingly short amount of time, our son went from being fearful of the water to confidently mastering safety skills and progressing into both front and back strokes. Most importantly, he is now safe and confident in the water. The flexibility of class days and times has also been extremely helpful for our family's busy schedule. We are incredibly grateful to the entire team at British Swim School in Milford for their dedication and exceptional instruction. Neither of my children had been in daycare previously, and were understandably nervous. The entire staff took care in ensuring that they felt safe and comfortable in their new environment. My son graduated from preschool there this summer, and I'm amazed by all the things he has been prepared for entering into kindergarten. With COVID restrictions in place, we were not able to attend a typical graduation ceremony, but the staff took many steps into making it a special and memorable time for him, and for us, and we couldn't be more grateful. My daughter loves going to school each and every day. She is to the point where she doesn't even say bye to me any more, and just walks right in. She, too, amazes me with all that she is learning, both socially and academically. If you're looking for a caring, safe, welcoming, and clean environment for your children, that feels like home, then this center is for you!

She started in the youngest class and loved it from day 1. Each day the children are nurtured and challenged according to ability. There is little to no turnover in teachers (something all the other schools had HUGE issues with) and they all form close bonds with the children. I know that when my child is dropped off she will be carefully watched all day and engaged in stimulating activities. She is also exposed to the Jewish holidays, customs, and loves to continue to be engaged with them at home. I am so happy we found the Gilson ELC.
