One of the most vibrant blocks in the city! The famed Rainbow Crosswalks sits at 10th and Piedmont, which is the heart of the gay community and are a symbol of Atlanta's acceptance, inclusivity, support and acknowledgement of the LGBTQ community, and it's members and allies from near and far! While they seem simple, they are one of the most poignant and powerful symbols in the city and quickly tells you the story of how we are a city that is "Too Busy To Hate"!
Originally installed in 2015 as a temporary show of pride during the cities pride festivities, they were formally put down as a permanent part of the city in 2017. The date of official addition to the city streets in 2017 was special for the celebrated community, as it focused on adding bright color to a dark day in history as it marked the one year anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting.
The crosswalks are now part of the cities cultural landscape and are celebrated far and wide! I have visited this block and the local restaurants and bars that call it home for many years and I must say that it is a lot more fun to visit since these crosswalks were permanently added! It may be color on the street, but being able to see such a bright representation of being loved is an amazing feeling! Fantastic job to Atlanta and the community for making the Rainbow Crosswalks happen! read more
