Got scammed here…read more Bought their used 600d light for $550. Tested it at their shop it worked. Take it straight to set literally an hour later, doesn't turn on. Immediately text the owner to let him know. Had to send talent home and cancel the shoot. Show up next day, they test it, it doesn't turn on. I'm extremely polite, not blaming them at all. I'm saying let's work something out. They had another identical unit that worked. I offered to add cash to exchange the dead one for the one that worked. Staff seemed hard working and normal. The owner though got immediately confrontational and tried to get me out of there. I remained calm and asked him to put himself in my shoes and work something out with me that was fair. Nope. He immediately accused me of lying, put words in my mouth, accused me of threatening him ( what? ), etc. Well here's how I know I got scammed aside from just bad business. He claimed multiple times that in 20 years in the biz that he's never had the 600d break on him ever. He goes "You probably dropped it" ( I did not ). When I offered to go half and half to cover the damage he literally said "It costs $500 to fix that light I don't want it, we tested it, you bought it, it's your problem". He said the dollar amount confidently, not a random number, he said $500. Meanwhile the talent is waiting for me on set I'm running super late. Super stressed out. No apology of any kind by the way. I beg for at least a free 1 day rental, he immediately accuses me of trying to swap the bad light for the good one ( what? ), but finally to get rid of me agrees to 1 day of free rental ( $75 value ), puts a $500 hold on my CC, I shoot return the light. Well here's the fun part, he sends me to the repair shop ( Lux ) that he says "will fix it for sure". Just got the estimate from lux. Guess how much. $514 ( light has multiple issues ). So if he's NEVER had a 600d go bad in his 20 years in business how did he know the repair was gonna cost exactly $500? Lol. If I had to guess he plugged in the good one during the test and slipped me the bad one. I have no proof of that but I'd bet my house that's what happened. But what I do know for sure is that he treated me like some lying scammer homeless bum off the street, super rude, disrespectful, unapologetic, couldn't care less that he wasted my time, money, and ruined 2 days of my shoot. Having a keylight to not turn on on set in front of talent and makeup and client is extremely stressful and embarrassing to have to send them home, they drove 2 hours each way to get to the location. I'd stay away from these guys at all costs. If anything goes wrong you'll get treated like trash. Would have been one thing if I had it for a week. But for it to not turn on after 1 hour is crazy. I told lux unless they wanna do me a favor and half the repair cost due to the circumstances that light will have to go straight in the trash can. Lesson learned.

Yale Film & Video took my ancient DigiBeta tapes--dusty relics from another lifetime--and brought…read morethem back like mad scientists jolting Frankenstein awake. What returned to me weren't just transfers, but full-blown time machines. Every frame, every sound, scrubbed and reborn as immaculate .mov files, shimmering like they'd been shot yesterday instead of pulled from the crypt. Most outfits would have mangled the job--soft focus, ghosted audio, clumsy conversions that bleed the life right out of the work. Not here. These people operate the machines like virtuosos in a high-wire act, coaxing fragile magnetic tape into sharp, crackling clarity. Watching the results felt like opening a vault sealed decades ago and finding everything inside not only intact, but shining brighter than you remembered. And the speed--unnerving, almost unnatural. I braced myself for weeks of limbo, excuses about queues and backlogs. Instead, the turnaround came like a lightning strike. The tapes barely had time to settle on the counter before the files were in my inbox, clean and perfect. It felt less like a transfer and more like a rescue mission carried out with surgical precision. What impressed me most was the calm confidence. No circus, no inflated promises--just steady assurance: "We'll take care of it." And they did. No delays, no drama, just pure execution. When the finished work arrived, I had to remind myself this wasn't a hallucination--it really was that fast, that good. Yale Film & Video is a rare outpost of true craft in a world addicted to shortcuts. If you've got legacy footage gathering dust, hand it over. They'll drag it back from the void with speed, precision, and a touch of sorcery. Five stars, and then some.

It felt like every camera I wanted to buy I wouldn't be able to take delivery of by the end of the year so I made some compromises in order to get something from these guys. Even after being told my cameras should ship they were delayed and I missed deadline after deadline. At one point I even had to have them redirect my shipments to the 4 Seasons where I was staying on holiday in an attempt to actually take delivery of what I bought and they still didn't deliver. Incomplete shipments, incorrect shipments, and here I am months later and I'm still dealing with trying to solve an order from December. The only star I can give to the folks at Abel was in their support department. The guy they had me working with, Jason, did help me put together the package I wanted even if I couldn't actually get what he was telling me to buy. He had a fast response time even if every time I talked to the guy he was telling me things were delayed or he flat out didn't have them in the warehouse. I honestly don't know how this place does business since they never seem to have anything on the shelf and then after almost three months awaiting a lens that I tell them I don't want anymore they try to tell me that I have to keep it.

From a design perspective, Ave. Six offers me the ability to created unique designs for my clients by providing what I call a "great foundation" to build on. For example, the wood plank floor in the East Stage would cost $1000's of dollars to install in a raw stage. By installing sets on this ready made floor, I can put my clients art budget towards other design elements more critical to their project. This also holds true for larger sets when I need to incorporate their standing set walls into my designs. Ave Six has great logistics (location, parking, truck space, easy load-in) They also have an exceptionally accommodating and wonderful staff whose goal is to help productions in their work, not hinder them. For example, on my last shoot there I was allowed to use Ave. Six backdrops in my designs from one of their stages not rented by the production company because it wasn't booked by anyone else. Ave. Six Studios is a great, unique stage facility and an invaluable resource for Art Directors looking to deliver the most for their clients. I would (and have many times) recommended them without reservation.
