We usually book a room with a terrace and a beautiful view of the Mediterranean. The room is smaller than a terrace though. And I guess they need to do something with their mattresses, they are not corresponding to the 5 star hotel at all - too firm and not comfortable. Room service is expensive, but as we are in France - very delicious and sophisticated. They have a Michelin Star restaurant downstairs which you have to book in advance for dinner or lunch. Lobby Bar. There is an outdoor tiny swimming pool with sunbeds. The best thing there for me is a beach. They don't have one, but if you walk out there is an access to the sea- you'll see there is an authentic tiny place on the rocks where people lay enjoying sun or swim in this deep blue sea. If it's not stormy only, there are rocks, be careful when get in the water or go out of it. But I guess that kind of activity is not very popular with hotel guests. Self-parking on the property.

This was our first time in Marseilles and absolutely loved the city's diversity, energy and vitality. As others have mentioned, Sofitel is situated on a hill with superb views of the Old Port. The view from our standard room (no balcony) was wonderful too, and I was thrilled to see beautiful fireworks over the harbor on Saturday night. (Not sure if the fireworks happen every week, maybe I just got lucky:) We ate dinner at Carré Bistromanie the first night, located on Sofitel's third floor. We booked ahead online to get a window table; the place is small and popular so reservations are recommended in any case. We both chose the daily special - roasted chicken with fresh mushrooms and fingerling potatoes - and it was the best chicken I've ever had, hands down. I've heard that making a moist tasty chicken is a good test of any chef's skills, and if this dinner was any indication the chef at Carré Bistromanie deserves an award! Lovely polite service and chill atmosphere as well. Our buffet breakfasts (included with our room rate) on the 7th floor terrace were ample, including fresh squeezed juices, eggs made to ordr and many varieties of yummy pastries. Our room was modern with a spacious bathroom and huge shower. The only downside (and it's minor) is that there were no drawers for storage. That may be an issue for a long stay, but not for us. The pool is shared with the neighboring property Novotel. I would definitely return to this Sofitel.

The paint on the walls of black and white stripes is akin to the store's outside facade. And just like Sephora, as soon as you walk in the door, the weary traveler is bombarded with the unmistakable fragrance of perfume but unfortunately, instead of it being pleasant it was the awful scent of a bad men's cologne. It's very potent. The first day when we checked in I thought it was just due to a hotel guest whose sense of smell was just dulled due to an accident with his nose. But no, it was the hotel's signature fragrance. The fragrance was there for our entire stay. Luckily, it was confined in the lobby and the rest of the floors were fragrance free. What saved the hotel was how well appointed the rest of the facility was. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom's rain shower had a strong pressure. Additionally, the daily breakfast buffet was very sumptuous. It was just well done. And the best draw was the LOCATION. It is literally steps to the port and all of the sites.

Spoke very little English but with my French I "checked in". She told me the room wouldn't be ready for 2 hours...I was early. So I asked if I could change and leave my bag and go explore until then. 15 min later..after I changed she said the room was ready. So I was excited. She asked me my name. I paid the tax in cash and she gave me my key. I took stairs to room and when I opened it I was highly disappointed. The room looked old and run down. Nothing like the photo w the nice decor pillows or the blanket One small table that was all chipped and dirty. And one small chair. The bathroom was clean. But the shower head had horrible pressure so showering was difficult and everywhere got wet. Either way the room had AC and with 90 degree weather this was a must. I figured for $90/night I got what I paid for. At least good location and had AC. So after I rinsed off I went out for about 5 hours. When I returned to my room all of my stuff was gone. I had a mini panic attack Went down to reception and no one there. I yelled and rang bell for 5-8 min before another guy came who spoke less English and tried to explain the girl checked me into the wrong guy room so they grabbed my stuff and put in storage. I don't understand how that was my fault and/or why they touched my stuff. In the end he told me to go back to the same room for my two night stay. I never saw the breakfast bc I didn't make it down in time. So not sure if it was worth the 10€. They did have a nice coffee and juice in lobby that either they didn't charge me for or it was free. Not sure. Either way not sure I'd ever come back here again. And if I did it wouldn't be for more than the $90 I paid for this time. Anything more than that is not worth it. The room is a box and has outdated walls, paint and furniture. Bed is ok but not the best. Again the only saving grace was the AC
