I stopped at this RaceWay in Spartanburg, South Carolina on my way northbound on I-85, headed to North Carolina from Georgia. I was running on empty, saw a sign for this RaceWay and other gas stations marked at exit 72, and immediately exited. On I-85 in Upstate SC, exit 72 is for US 176 to I-585 - Spartanburg, Inman.
This gas station isn't directly off the interstate, but close enough. You have to drive about one mile west, up highway 176 (Asheville Hwy).
This RaceWay was fine. One thing I liked about it was despite its size - 20 pumps - it wasn't busy like QuikTrip. I thought the gas prices were reasonable. I used pump #4 and it was in good condition. It had contactless payment and my paper receipt printed clearly. Overall, the property was clean and spacious.
The reason why I'm giving this gas station three stars instead of four is because the men's restroom was small and the door was broken. It wouldn't shut all the way. Unlike a QT or bigger gas station, this restroom was one person only at a time. Since the door wouldn't shut, you had no privacy. Luckily, I was washing my hands when someone tried to enter. A little awkward. I told the stranger the door wouldn't shut.
Unfortunately, this RaceWay wasn't on GetUpside when I visited. If you're not familiar, GetUpside is an app that gives you free cash back on gas purchases. There are no catches or gimmicks. Use my invite code DANIEL66482 to get free extra cash back the first time you use the app for a gas purchase.
RaceWay is a subsidiary of RaceTrac. The difference between RaceWay and RaceTrac is RaceWay stores are independently operated by franchisees/contractors. RaceTrac is ultimate owner of every RaceWay location.
While not among my preferred stops along I-85 in South Carolina, I liked this RaceWay enough to come back, if needed. read more
