Okay, they might have Fosters on tap but the thing is that no Australian in their right mind would ever dream of drinking Fosters, and you certainly can't get it on tap over here. Anyway, this is that sort of bar - pretty grungy and certainly not Australian. No doubt it is named as such due to the Australians fighting in the region, but then again they fought all along the Commonwealth lines. It's an okay bar, a little grungy, but not bad. However, certainly not one I would hurrying back to any time soon.

Okay, it was a bit of a hike from our hotel, but it was certainly worth it, even if it was just for the atmosphere. Mind you, when I first saw it after stepping out of the alley (and being warmly greeted by some guys standing there), I could see that this was definitely a pretty popular bar, and when we ended up chatting with one of the patrons for most of the night it certainly left an impression on me that is going to stay for quite a while. As I said to one of them, why go to a foreign country when you are not going to mix with the locals - that is one of the best ways to actually experience other places (though of course there are those who simply treat them like museum pieces and spectacles).

Deciding to walk alongside the river, instead of going around the dry city blocks to find the Cathedral, we stumbled upon a familiar sight. Having been to Brussels last year, we are familiar with the little statue called "Manneken-Pis", so when we found a bar with that name we thought it worthy of an exploration and a good place to rest and enjoy a beer. We were greeted by two lovely attendants who were only too pleased to show us around the bar as we madly photographed everything. We were served politely and our behaviour was tolerated, I had a Belgian beer, Afflinghem(?) and Fureya had a Krieg (?) cherry beer. We sat in the sunshine and enjoyed the restful time as other clients filled the seats around us. The attendants were far too busy to watch us leave after we paid, a good thing! We enjoyed the cold beers, warm sunshine and service. Go back, yes definitely! Tell friends, well, you've read this far.

Okay, it wasn't all that flash, but then again this wasn't one of those pubs that appear at the top of your recommendations list, and the only reason that I went here more than once was because, as I have mentioned, it was convenient. So, it is your typical Irish pub, which basically means that it is your typical pub. Once again, like a lot of places, I discovered that most of the people congregated outside while the inside was basically empty - you know, smoking at all that. So, the pub itself was nice, but nothing that I would recommend going out of your way to visit (though considering the options in the railway station, I would probably pick this one hands down).
