The home is a simple 2,500 sq ft ranch with an unfinished basement built in the late 80's. Andy had found a few obvious "blemishes" with the home/ property. Nothing that a normal person couldn't find by their self, simply by spending the time. I feel as though I would have received a more thorough inspection if I had set aside the day and done the inspection myself. Andy did not perform a thorough inspection (which is what every prospective home buyer, especially a virgin home buyer, desires!) Andy proves his lack of attention to detail by simply glossing over all the funky "blemishes" and horse-crap "renovations" that the previous owner attempted to pull off, that I now have to un-do & re-do. I used to believe that a proficient inspector would have noticed, and pointed out, exactly how poorly the renovations were. How odd the current fixtures really are. What fixtures are non-standard i.e. "good luck finding replacement parts, bud!" I now realize I did not explicitly tell Andy just how thorough of an inspection I was anticipating. I thought $500 was on the cheap side. I did not believe I would have had to express, explicitly "I want a very thorough inspection, Andy!" to a professional, experienced home inspector/ contractor with as much experience. I am disappointed with Andy's provided home inspection service through "Security Home Inspection corp." Simply put: Andy is, at most, an amateur home inspector.

Jared was our inspector and he is the man! He's friendly, knowledgeable and well-versed in century-old homes. He has really cool inspector gadgets - you see what I did there? - (drones, collapsible ladders, heat detectors, etc.) that ensure you get top quality inspections; no stones left unturned. He took the time to explain things to us and answer any questions we had; he nerded out a couple times when he came across newer, updated electrical work and it was fun to learn a thing or two, and to see someone get excited and passionate about what they do. We hope to not have to go through another home inspection for at least 10 years but if we do, they will be the first company we call! *Side note - there are 2 Jareds that work with this company, both really nice and knowledgeable, but uncertain if the other Jared does century old homes. After calling up and speaking with his assistant about his rates and time, I noticed that it was a little more expensive than other home inspectors. She did mention that it is since he is the best, has the best reports, gets on the roof, and takes his time going through. I took Norm and her word for it and had Mark take a look at the property. His assistant called to let me know that he was running late due to traffic yet he still showed up on time, which is always a plus. We spent more than 4 hours looking through EVERYTHING, and I mean he looked at and tested everything. I have been told that most inspectors don't go up on roofs anymore yet Mark got up on the roof, snapped pictures, and was checking it out for 15 minutes. Mark uses a digital camera to take dozens of pictures and has a laptop on site that he uploads them to right away. He puts together his digital report as he goes. In all he provided a digital PDF copy of the report that was 37 pages long with so much detail. Not only did it include a few pictures on each page, descriptions, but also diagrams of how to correct it or what it should look like. Mark also knew I was a first time duplex buyer and would educate me along the way, show me various items, and explain things in detail so I would understand and know for the future. He was very educational and helpful. He may be a little more expensive than others yet what he found I was able to get some serious money knocked off the price so it was money very well spent. Highly recommend Mark and will be using him in the future.
