Love coming here to fill our cabinets with a new plate, bowl or cup. It's a very nice place with lots of dishes to choose from made from clay in the region and lead free. I know they have classes too if you want to spin some clay or do some wine and painting. Check them out!

I recently spent a day with friends visiting Murphys, California, and my favorite pottery place, Quyle Kilns. Actually, visiting Quyles is the only reason I've been making this trip once or twice a year for the past 15 years or so. Here's a link to their website - http://quylekilns.com/ - and I added in some photos (above) as well. Their pottery is amazing and so well made. It's such a great little family run business. They mine their own clay, most of which is distributed to many of the schools and art colleges in California. Their showroom is filled with items that are not only gorgeous and well made, but very reasonably priced, and made out of sheer love of doing so as this family business survives on clay sales, not showroom sales. The customer service and downright friendliness can't be beat either. My favorite part of the visit is being allowed into the back room, where they are in the various stages of making the pottery. I love seeing what's recently come out of the kiln and possibly having first dibbs on it. Such fun! This trip, I purchased a few bowls to add to my collection and a small gift for a friend. And I'll surely be back for more! If you happen to be driving through or around the Murphys area, I highly recommend you stop in. Quyle Kilns is right outside the town of Murphys, but its easy to miss on Hwy 4 (on the way up to Arnold), as there is only a small sign on the left side of the road, with a driveway leading up to the showroom, not seen from the hwy. They also have a great little family run indie winery on the property. We stopped in and sampled the wine, which was quite yummy, and I even brought a bottle back for a friend who works for a local and well known SF wine shop. She thought it was quite yummy as well. So, actually, you get two great spots for the price of one. And while in the area, there's so much more to do. The town of Murphys it'self is loaded with lots of fun and interesting little shops to browse and some really wonderful restaurants. My personal favorite is Grounds. The surrounding towns, Angels Camp, Sonora, Jamestown, etc. also have much of the same to offer and the whole area could make for quite a lovely weekend getaway.

SCAM ALERT - DON'T BE NEXT! Consigned many items May 2025…read more First time dealing with this store and new owner Emilie. Business uses online inventory system that was incorrect/incomplete from day one. I had to update/correct. Owner doesn't keep updated. That should have been my first red flag. During the contract period (approx 3 months) some items consigned sold. When I requested payment however, many items sold had not been noted to my account. After making effort to collect what was due me for the items sold I noticed items remaining consigned that should still be in-store "disappeared" before the end of my contract. I have tried unsuccessfully at least 5 times to recover missing items or get paid for the sale. My contract ended July 2025. Per contract, payment is to be requested and made within 90 days for items sold. Emilie doesn't show up or leaves minutes before I arrive in effort to avoid paying me or resolving the situation. A week ago (August 2025) she was a no-show again at her other business location the new thrift store next to Big Trees Market in Arnold where we were scheduled to meet. BOTTOM LINE, TO DATE EMILIE HAS NOT RETURNED MY PROPERTY AND HAS NOT PAID ME FOR THOSE ITEMS! I've initiated filing formal complaints to the appropriate parties and am considering small claims court. I have written documentation for everything in this post. CONSIGNERS AND BUYERS BEWARE. Consigners, you may not get your property back if it doesn't sell, you may not get paid if it does sell. Buyers, you may unknowingly be purchasing items that legally belong to someone else who will not get paid for your purchase. It's my understanding Emile is the new owner of this business for about a year now so reviewers please don't rely on any positive reviews for this busines prior to 2024 to guide you.
