We politely asked (in proper German) if we could move to an empty and non-reserved table closer to the open window, she rolled her eyes at me and shouted that no. Without any reason. Then she messed up an order and shouted at us when we requested to return one dish, more eye rolling and aggressive attitude. All in all, it created a very unpleasant atmosphere and ruined our afternoon. Honestly, never again.

I ended up ordering the Italian currywurst, mostly out of curiosity, and thoroughly enjoyed the twist on a classic German dish. As I don't particularly enjoy beer, I decided to try a fruit beer, which was much more to my taste. We were warmly greeted as we entered the place and picked a spot out near the display case with all the wonderful pastries. All three of us ordered a hot chocolate in addition to a cherry tart and a marzipan for sharing. Before we blinked, our drinks and deserts were delivered. Let me warn you though that if you are used to American Hot Chocolate then this is different for sure. I would almost describe it as a chocolate bar melted into a cup and nothing else. Very delicious but also very sweet. I loved the cherry tart. It was amazingly fresh and delightful and my favorite of the two. My wife and daughter though fought over the marzipan and didn't think as highly of the tart. The ambiance of the place was fabulous and the folks working there super friendly and helpful. After a long day of visiting palaces, getting a beer and some good German food is important. Cafe Heider, right on the main boulevard near a picturesque stone gate, is a place to hang out and watch the locals and tourists go by. It has been doing so since 1878. We ordered beer and wine under huge red umbrellas. Then we got right into it : KAISER GULASCH (Goulash), the HEIDER'S KÄSESPÄTZLEPFANNE (spatial with ham and cheese), and the KÖNIGSBERGER KLOPSE (pork dumplings, and mashed potatoes. Mein Gott!
