We had a winery visit and then lunch plus 'wine tasting' at this Quinta. It was an extremely hot day in Duoro so the visit was slightly uncomfortable since part of it was done outside. We had lunch outside also and although we were in the shade, it was still very hot , especially to drink the heavy red Douro wines.
The food was good though. We had previously selected the pork with chestnuts when we made our reservation. They started us off with some bread, cheeses and olives, then we had a really refreshing cold melon soup. The main entree was the roasted pork which was absolutely delicious. The chestnuts were interesting, kinda dry, kinda sweet, almost like very small, dry sweet potatoes. The pork was served with white rice and roasted potatoes, both were perfect accompaniments. I honestly couldn't get enough of the pork, we even took the leftovers home with us.
In regards to the wines we tasted, they were less memorable. Only the first wine served, the white one, was actually enjoyable. The rest of the wines (3 reds) were all red, heavy and alcoholic.
For dessert we were served a mango mousse which was good and some locally picked peaches, not my favorite fruit.
Service was attentive but overall I found the whole experience overrated and overpriced. read more
