I stopped at this winery for a tasting of table wines. I was able to get a flight of three without Port (I don't care for it). The wines may be good, but sadly they weren't in a style I care for, especially the white. However, the property is really nice inside and the staff were professional and courteous. The patio was over the top with a spectacular view. I was in heaven. This was my second winery stop so I ordered a cheese board to counter the wine and to stand-in for lunch. It was fantastic with goat, sheep, and cow cheeses. Pinhão seemed oddly quiet on this beautiful September Monday morning so I was fortunate to have patio seating. There's a very spacious indoor area with window walls but the patio is prime real estate. You can easily walk here from the train station. I had a wonderful experience.

We had an excellent wine experience at Quinta do Bomfim. The farm/winery is part of the Symington Wine Group and is the producer of the premium Dow port wines. This tour unlike the ones you experience in Porto is focused on the actual production of the wine versus a wine centric experience. As part of this excursion we got to see the key processes used in making the wine from receiving grapes from the vineyard, to the automated sorting of the grapes, to the automated pressing of the grapes to extract the juice, fermentation of the grapes into wine and eventual pumping of the juice to large stainless steel vats to hold the juice for eventual transport to Porto for barreling and cellaring . A very impressive operation to behold in particular the pressing and fermentation equipment. Aside from the production process this experience also includes excellent discussions and show and tells on the history of this Quinta and its focus on production of Dow ports and a tour of their small cellar where the main cellar is in Gaia with the other major Port producers in this region. Relative to the staff and our tour guide, this is clearly a strength of this Quinto and Wine experience where their knowledge and experience clearly is superior to other wineries we have visited in the area. These folks have excellent knowledge of the business and their Quinta and not the cursory high level fact sheet based knowledge that we have seen at other wineries. This added so much to the experience for me personally allowing me to ask delving questions and further my knowledge on wine in general and more specifically on Port which was a main goal for me on this trip. Nice! Overall a truly excellent experience and one not to be missed if you are in Pinhao and are a fan off all things wine!

This is also only a review about the restaurant Bomfim 1896 with Pedro Lemos. Went to see Douro river area on a rainy day for lunch. Used to go to Restaurante DOC by Rui Paula but understood them to be closed for remodeling. Reception and parking was fine and since we were early they provided us with drinks while the table was prepared. Made reservation via Fork. Food, service and ambience was very nice. Various dishes ordered are in pictures. Reasonably priced for level of service and quality provided.

Outstanding vineyard and winery! Great behind the scenes tour of winemaking process. Awesome views.

This review is actually for Bomfim 1896 with Pedro Lemos. We made a reservation last minute and the food was amazing. White glove service from the waitstaff was brand new experience for me. The ambiance is superb overlooking the Duoro River.

Started with the white of the day (Altano White Reserve DOC Duoro) and Cockburn's Special Reserve.

The views of the river while tasting wine was breathtaking. We were beyond fortunate to have Leonor serving us. She was exceptional at wine pairing. Additionally, if we found a wine we enjoyed she was at ease to recommend another that would fit our pallet. We were blessed to have her enhance our experience!!! It was SO phenomenal we were able to find 24 bottles to ship home. I HIGHLY recommend you asking for her when you visit, as you will not be disappointed.

Booked an advance tasting online. I'd advise to hold booking until arrival but confirm time of language tour preferred in advance. Our train ran 30 mins late so had to start tour later and bump train connection. Not ideal, but staff were helpful in working with us to move tasting to before tour and allowed us to leave bags to walk grounds. Beautiful views from tasting room. Familiar ports so knew what to expect in tasting but regional wines may be a consideration for those wanting to try something new.

An accordionist played between the three course servings. Port wines were on the table with a carafe of water. The pot roast and mashed potatoes served were delicious. Then we walked outdoors to see the vineyard and patio that had a fig tree. A European Robin sang in the tree. Was delightful.

We had a very nice traditional Portuguese lunch, with plenty of appetizers of cod fritters and sausages, with several courses and musical entertainment (including an accordion) in their lovely building. We enjoyed their white and red wines, and we had lovely service from their friendly staff. A highlight here is the owner, who was such a fun-loving host. He seemed to love his job of entertaining and informing the luncheon group very much. He did a great job of raising my rating higher. This is a great tour stop in Portugal near the Duoro River.

We enjoyed the somewhat pricey dinners in the renovated 18th century farmhouse, with diners from multiple countries conversing across different languages. Breakfasts were superb, although we missed our morning lattes, settling for coffee with a bit of milk. Staff were always ready to assist (in multiple languages!), but were never intrusive. Our room behind the farmhouse enjoyed a lovely view of the river valley with its terraced hillsides. We trekked the Red Trail straight down to the "corte" (a stream cutting through the hills draining into the Douro River a few kilometers distant), and then straight back up the road to the farmhouse as the sun came out. Such a pleasant experience (except possibly for the nerve-wracking descent on the access driveway!), and a highlight of our vacation.

The new owner, from France, has done a wonderful job renovating the space. We had a fantastic personal tour of the winery, from an explanation of the grapes to the equipment and development of their port and table wines. This is also one of the few places where they still stomp on the grapes. The guide was very knowledgeable and knew a lot about the history of the estate. Finally, we were able to sample the wines, which were all delicious. Overall, I really enjoyed this winery.
