If you are lucky enough to reserve a wine barrel room, good for you! I almost had a chance because of how planned I started off but outside logistics held me up. The rooms are real nice but you do pay a premium for them. In about 2016, business for winery stays started booming. Before then, there were about 15 rooms with zero people staying most of the time. If you are doing it on your own, sometimes you can get a deal like free boat ride or if you tour agent/company books at a certain time or has a relationship with said hotel, they can maybe get these extras as well. Fresh juices and food abound. I wouldn't be able to provide the freshness they do but I can tell. Staff went out of their way to help me find restaurants and discuss opinions of which day I should do this or that etc. An experienced male staffer made me an americano free of charge and the night before, a lady brought my bags up w a cart even though I would've wanted to do it myself for the exercise but I was really tired from a not so great navigator and my phone not being navigation ready without using too much bandwidth to download this and that. Cheese , tomato, fruit, and meats are typical for Portuguese establishments. All of these offerings are so fresh. Wow. 3 hamlets in the premises. Red fruit drink does not have a label for what fruit it is and I cannot tell. They also offer fresh peach juice and not so surprisingly fresh squeezed orange juice. A travesty for a place in Portugal not to offer this as oranges are apparently cheap here and the process is easy enough (not easy to me haha). Breakfast is served between 830-1030. This seems to be a Portuguese standard. It is hard to fit everything in a day sometimes if your time is limited and since many things open at 9 despite this. Sometimes , I wish breakfast was typically available earlier but I know that that is the American in me. To get into your hotel room, you push the door open instead of pull it. The wine barrel rooms may be different. I had a free boat ride included with my purchase, but I didn't drive since the train ride to Pinhao is picturesque. The train was late and the directions to find the boat ride weren't the best. Even using Google maps, you have to realize that you have to go past the point to meet and then kind of turn around by crossing tracks, going on the side of a hotel, down through a garden until you find the exit to the dock area, and finally you find the company. The company has an app they want you to download for an audio tour but since I am not from the country, I have to be mindful of the data plan. I did get an international plan but there are still limits. The experience to get the boat ride and everything else was 4 star but I think the place is 5 star overall. They don't have to offer it at all. I had asked for this information in advance but they didn't want to give me the company name before I arrived in case I would cancel the hotel and go stay elsewhere. Another possibility is that they didn't decide the boat company until last minute. An included shuttle to/from Regua train station would be nice as it is recommended to do the train ride to Pinhao for the scenery. I personally didn't feel the hype but don't feel it is a bad thing either- so there is that. Winery tastings were excellent. I ended doing two and both were on site - one was free and the other included a more in-depth facilities tour- since it was supposed to rain with thunderstorms that day. Slight rain but no thunderstorms. You never know with these things. I was recommended to wait last minute to sign up for Pinhao winery tour because logistics with time might've been an issue and they would supposedly have spots but this dynamic is no longer true. Probably used to be late June - August but now probably need to book things in advance if May -September if easily accessible by train. They will add a guest relations person who can help with more thorough directions for future boat rides. They should consider a shuttle to and from Regua train station and also things like an arcade, board games, and a place for children as it is very family friendly except for the lack of activities for kids. IfnI could speak Portuguese and be paid well enough, maybe I could've been their guest relations person, haha I also used their pool, mini-gym, and had dinner at Pacheca. They comped me for the tour. Breakfast was already included in my stay. Pricy but I made sure to get the most I could for what I paid. Some locals I have bumped into feel this is overpriced for what you get and that there is fresh food offered at any of the locations because it is in a rich soiled valley where they can grow things and serve it fresh from their gardens directly.

We had a memorable wine tasting at one of the oldest port and wine Quinta in Douro. Quinta da Pacheca is one of the most prestigious and recognized properties in the Douro Region. The history of the vineyard in this property dates back to the XVI century when it was a collection of vines that belonged to the Monasteries of Salzedas and St. João de Tarouca. The winery is known for their famous Barrel Hotel Room rentable unit when you can virtually sleep in a barrel after enjoying your Pacheca wines! Very fitting! Our tour guide Hugo was very knowledgeable and gave us a full recap of centuries of Port wine history. The restaurant definitely deserves a special mention as the food is absolutely divine. Their leg of Lamb is just earthy and cooked to perfection. Their version of octopus thinly sliced and presented with such a pleasurable refinement is also worth mentioning. Our escapade at Pancheca was one of the very high point of out trip to Portugal!

This place is so picturesque! We stopped by as part of a tour of Douro Valley. We are not big wine drinkers so we just wanted to visit a vineyard and have a tour. We've never experienced or seen wine grapes or olive trees, this place has an abundance of both and different varieties of g. They were able to accommodate us and our tour guide gave us a tour of the grounds. It had really well maintained grounds, gift shop, and various other amenities. On our next trip here, we plan to spend a few days here. Just gorgeous!

Stayed in a regular room since the barrel shacks were all taken. Gorgeous vistas. Clean/modern facilities. Two restaurants, both were good and reasonable in prices. Swimming pool is nice, but note that they only offer a towel per person--don't lose it. Staff is quite friendly. Our tour was done by Fabio, and he was quite knowledgeable.

Amazing hotel, great service. We loved the tour and wine tasting. All the staff was accommodating and friendly. We especially loved staying in private barrel rooms, we enjoyed breakfast in our rooms delivered straight to our door, we wish we could've stayed another day but the barrels were pretty booked up. Their 30 year tawny port is absolutely fantastic!! Definitely need to try this place

Wow! Is all I can say. After our wine and port tasting we had a leisurely lunch at the restaurant on the Estate. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Our meal was exquisite. We ordered the four course tasting menu with well paired wines and ports Check out our pics.

The initial lure of our stay here was the unique nature of the wine barrel and reasonable price with included breakfast. The location is beautiful, right off the banks of the Duoro and the cute town of Peso de Regua right across the river. Our stay started out with a complimentary tour of the winery (reserved in advance). The tour was about 30-40 minutes and the best part was of course tasting their wines and learning about the differences in types and ages of port wine. I did not learn a lot from the tour about the process of wine making but it was nice to see the cellar. Then we were brought to our room in the van at sunset with gorgeous views of the valley. The staff showed us around the room, including the well hidden storage closets. Seeing as it was winter and about 50 degrees F outside we didn't get to enjoy the patio. But the room was well heated. I liked the sunroof above the bed with a motorized cover for the morning when it is too bright. Unfortunately at night, the lighting inside is not great. It is very dim and hard to see. The bed itself is beautiful to look at and has some unique features like bedside light switches, and TV remote built in. But unfortunately not very comfortable. It sinks in the middle. The bathroom sink is also a beautiful design but poorly thought out for functionality, as the water splashes everywhere for more than a trickle! A complimentary small bottle of port is included as well. The continental breakfast is in the main dining room overlooking the winery. The dining room is beautiful, and the breakfast was fantastic! A lot of good options from the standards to more unique Portuguese options. They had sparkling wine and juice for make-your-own mimosas. Overall a good stay, the wine barrels are a unique option, but I wish they were as functional and comfortable as beautiful.

Great Port wine tasting! We had a small tour of the facilities and got to try one of the port wines from the barrel - it was really neat. Each port wine was wonderfully sweet!

Very interesting and beautiful tour. The tour guide Carla was a knowledgeable and funny which made the tour a whole lot more pleasant. Beautiful winery and great views!

It even smells heavenly with the orange blossoms and rosemary all around the property. Had dinner both nights at the hotel as it was delicious, affordable for the area (which generally has considerably more expensive restaurants) and easy. Kids enjoyed the bar menu to have an earlier night of it (plenty of options for lighter dinners in the bar if you don't wish to eat heavy or late) and we loved our premium wine pairings with dinner. They also have an honor bar with all of their fabulous wines and some spirits for mixing, which was a nice touch. The breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. Wish it would start a little earlier (7? 730? would be great, but I believe it started at 8) but other than that, zero complaints. Our stay included a tour and tasting, which was truly educational for all. Our guide was the sommelier of the hotel and she also poured the wines at dinner. Our stay at the Quinta was a true highlight of our trip. I highly recommend it.

Next came a light and savory goat cheese puff pastry over roasted mushrooms. For our main we feasted on seared pork belly in a bed of fresh peas and for dessert a sweet orange roulade with strawberry compote. Definitely one of the tastiest meals on our two week trip in Portugal so far. After lunch we strolled a bit around the historic property with its small chapel ruin and many fruit trees. My wife and i drove in and just wondered around until someone approached us in our clearly lost/confused state. We were greeted by an incredibly friendly young gal and treated to an impromptu wine tasting on a stone table in the shade of a large tree on a patio overlooking the Duoro River. Honestly, the wine would have been swill and this would have been an incredible experience... but luckily we were treated to some very crisp and refreshing Vihno Verdes (green wines) while having some nice conversation with the Covela pourer (whose name I have forgotten). Afterwards she took us for a tour of the grounds where we saw the vineyards, orchards and the few centuries old ruins of the old manor house and chapel. To sum it up... this was the stuff of dreams. Unfortunately they do not distribute in the USA or I would most certainly buy their wine often. Instead we left with a bottle and drank it at the hotel later that evening (yes, i am a wino). If you are in the region - certainly make a stop here. Well worth it.
