The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was the pie case. It was "seat yourself," so I decided to sit at the counter. I was acknowledged and waited on right away. They have menus, but I didn't really need one because of the lighted display boards on the wall above the counter. Originally, I was going to order ice cream but decided on a slice of coconut cream pie and a cup of coffee. Not many people were ordering coffee, so I got a fresh pot. The pie crust was flaky while the filling was rich and creamy. My only regret is that I didn't have enough room to order a slice of peach crumb pie, too. Young's features the piecrete which is a slice of pie blended with soft-serve ice cream. Some of the pie is reserved for the topping. (I will definitely have to try one of those!) Also, on my "to-try" list is the chicken basket. The chicken is given a saltwater rinse (brining), before being breaded and cooked in a pressure fryer. While chicken is what they are famous for, I would say it's their friendly, top-notch service that accounts for their repeat business and longevity. Not many restaurants have been in business for over 70 years! If your travels take you to Valley Park, this place is a must stop. Be sure to check out the photos and memorabilia. When I pointed it out, the employee told me that they automatically put cheese on every steakburger unless you specifically ask for "no cheese." That makes no sense to me--if a customer says "ONLY" followed by the toppings they want, that should mean only those toppings. Instead of simply correcting the mistake, the employee argued with me about the policy and told me I'd have to buy another burger if I wanted it made the way I ordered it. I asked to speak with the manager. After disappearing for a moment, she returned and said they would remake it, but made a point of saying they were still charging me the same price--as if they were doing me a favor by making the order correctly. I paid over $33 for three burgers and two mini shakes. When I got home, the burgers were among the saltiest I've ever eaten. Between the confusing "cheese unless you say no cheese" policy, the poor customer service, and the disappointing food quality, I have no reason to come back.

Didn't want to completely blow out our palettes, so those went in the trash can't speak to the interior, but the drive thru is clear of garbage. I have picked up orders from this exact location, and because straws, (yep, soda straws), were missing, and I got a "#2" rating because of it in the past. I then proceeded to ask him to double up that four little soda carton, the flimsy carton. And he just gave me one and acted like I was causing him trouble. There was no one else in the restaurant. The reason why I ask for an additional carton to carry my beverages to deliver to a customer after I pick up from this restaurant is to make sure that the soda does not spill or drinks pardon me, all over my floorboard which is caused mold in my brand new car. I'm sure he's really nice guy, but he was extremely rude, everyone is entitled to a bad day, but do not take it out on people on the other side of the counter.
