Just bought shrimp out of the counter. Was very disappointed in quality. Not sure where they are getting their shrimp, was not fresh like we are used to purchasing. Have been buying 5 pound frozen blocks from Zimco Marine and defrosting what we wanted for each meal. Superior to what I just bought. Only problem is Zimco closes at 4:30 each day. Cool little store on the road to South Padre Island where you can buy bait, fishing gear, knick knacks, island souvenirs, sportswear, sunscreen, hats, snacks and seafood. They have live shrimp swimming in a tank and piles of big, headless shrimp and other seafood to cook at home. Checkout all the photos on the walls of locally-caught fish. The guys working here are always super nice and really helpful. Stop here to pick up everything you need on your way to your island adventure then stop back in on your way home to pick up some fresh seafood. Their seafood is da bomb! read more

How in the hell have I not reviewed Quik Stop? Though you guys know how i feel about misspelled words (where did the c go? Did it not fit on the sign? Is it on vaca?) this has been a Port Isabel/Stocker life staple for as long as I can remember 20 years ago, QS was a sleepy little spot with shrimp and fishing gear. Then they got fancy and started with the murals on the walls and the clever sayings on the sign and the Guy Harvey gear. Not to be confused with Ed Hardy or Paul Harvey btw. Their shrimp are the cheapest in town and you can buy all kinds of knickknacks. My favorite? A hat with faux seagull poop on it that says "Darn Seagulls!" Still cracks me up. They've got all kinds of things you need and more that you'll want. The same guys have worked there forever -- the mark of a good shop IMHO. Skip walmart and come to Quik Stop for your island treasures. read more

I always buy fresh local seafood when I'm vacationing near the ocean. I didn't know about this place last year. What a find! I bought the freshest shrimp!! My go to place for live bait and fresh dead bait. The prices are always reasonable and the staff are very helpful and friendly. My father in law purchased his yearly fishing license here, they also have the daily license for about $11-$13 dollars. I would say just pay the $40-$45 for the yearly but that's just me! Good place to find all the local brands of gear and last minute gear you might need for your trip out in the water. God, I need to go fishing soon! read more
