Brooks Cremation and Funeral Service - Jack Hagin, President Funeral Director in Charge

Brooks Cremation and Funeral Service

My experience with the the owner of this company, Jack was anything but professional. After…read morespeaking with Jack, he requested that I go to his site and complete the forms. Upon completing the forms, digitally with digital signature , as the forms instructed. Upon emailing the completed forms, Jack called me to tell me "you need to do better" and argued with me on the digital signature provided, again as the form instructed. I was then instructed that the forms needed to be filled out in pen and ink, scanned and emailed. I was also instructed that the Broward Country release form needed to be sent to the address at the bottom of that from. Again, I complied with Jack's request. Jack then called me to yell at me for sending the form to Broward when my father was not yet deceased, which he already knew from our previous conversations. He then proceeded to accuse me of lying that I told him that my father was here and then there, deceased and then not deceased. The best party of my experince with this company and man came when he said they would refuse their serices to me and my family./ Beware as this man and the organization, he gets confused easily and then attempts to berate belittle and blame you when you follow his instructions.

This cremation service is wonderful. Jack is compassionate and very thorough. I have used Brooks…read morein the past and will continue to recommend this wonderful service. Pricing is the best, but more importantly the professionalism and honesty go beyond.

DA Jackson Funeral Home

If I could give zero stars I would. I truly hope nobody else ever has to go through what my family…read morehas endured with this funeral home. It has been five months since my mother passed, and we still have not received her ashes. Throughout this time, I have been given nothing but excuses, misinformation, and outright lies. I was told the ashes were sent without a tracking number (which is impossible, as every mailed package has tracking). Later, I was told they were sent through DHL, yet DHL confirmed they do not ship human remains or ashes, and they had no record of any shipment under my name. In other words, the ashes were never sent. This man has repeatedly promised to email me tracking information, but somehow I never receive those emails despite receiving his "test emails" just fine. He dodges phone calls, ignores text messages, and has shown zero compassion or accountability. Even after I mentioned getting a lawyer involved, he refused to reach out. No grieving family should ever have to deal with this level of disrespect and negligence. We are now in the process of filing a police report. Please do not use this funeral home. They are unprofessional, dishonest, and have caused us nothing but pain during an already devastating time. Horrible, horrible company

We call him, leavw him messages and get nothing. The permit for my mom's ashes were in someone else's name. This is the most unproffessional establishment that I and my family have ever ecperienced. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.... WE WANT AND NEED MY MOTHER'S DEATH CERTIFICATE!!!! Again, DO NOT UTILIZE THEIR SERVICES....

I didn't go to Broward Burial & Cremation to attend services for someone else, but for my own. It…read morekind of gives one a yucky feeling and though I had planned to live forever or die trying, I've come to realize it will inevitably end up being the later of those two alternatives. So my first hand experiences here were not to be present for any services but to plan for them. When I walked in, I was given a warm and friendly greeting, then introduced to one of the sales staff. I questioned and he gave answers with regards to cremations, burial trust, religious or other services, floral arrangements and obituaries. I think I have this correct that you may contract through various companies which share in the use of Broward Burial & Cremation facilities and each of these companies specializing in certain matters such as price or lavishness ceremonies. Though I haven't contracted for anything as of yet, I remain well impressed with their offerings and capabilities.

This is part of a 2-part updated review. Please see the entire review…read more We ended up having no choice but to use this funeral home after all the harassment and abuse. In the days immediately following my dad's death, we had had too many family members trying to influence our decision. Burial or cremation. We ended up waiting too long and had no choice except to cremate my dad. We had my poor father's remained shipped to us and when I received the package I wanted to absolutely DIE. His cremains were leaking out of the pathetic interior box they used. Opened it further, his cremains were sticking to the clear packing tape on the exterior box and leaking through the corners of the shipper. I only have the ability to talk about this now because it's been some time, my sister handled most of the arrangements and never even saw the box because it was shipped to me. I have worked in the funeral industry since my father passed away. And I am absolutely appalled. A clear plastic liner should have been used to hold my father's ashes inside the black box inside the shipper. I have never, ever seen one NOT used. So my father ended up being spread through Fedex's shipping network. I have seriously wondered if the cremains I received were even my fathers. With no way to prove it, I can only hope that they are. I will never ever forget how horrible things were handled. My father should not have leaked out of the box. And the lady handling the arrangements in their office was horrible, I hope to God she was fired. She verbally assaulted me over the phone. I hope God punishes her.

A funeral director from Miami moved bodies to Evergreen from a previous burial location near where Southside School now sits. Behind the black iron fence, Evergreen is the final resting place of Ft. Lauderdale's pioneer families. The gravestones here bear the names of the Stranahans, Kings, Cromarties, Bryans, and Olivers. Many of their former homes have been turned into museums. In 1921 The American Legion purchased four lots to bury veterans from the Civil War on. You can find veterans graves marked with American flags. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks purchased lots 34 and 43 for indigent burials. In 1926, hurricane victims were buried in unmarked graves in the north central portion of the cemetery which is also the infant section. In 1935, B'Nai Israel purchased blocks one and two for burials of those of the Jewish faith. The arguably most famous resident of Evergreen is the actor Leslie Nielsen who starred in Airplane and the Naked Gun! His grave is located in the north central section of Evergreen. He was humorous to the end with his headstone bearing the epitaph "Let 'er Rip," which is a homage to his flatulence inspired comedy. The bench by his grave is inscribed "Sit down whenever you can," which was his advice to comedians looking to break into the business. Evergreen has long been rumored to be a supernatural hot spot with reported sightings of lady in white near the crypt where Wayne Huizenga's parents are buried. During the day however it is a peaceful green space filled with trees and birds. The cemetery still has burial plots available. There is always room for one more.

The cemetery is quite lovely and you'll find limited parking. Fortunately, there were no active services underway when I stopped in so I did not have to find anything special. I just pulled the car to the side of one of the main routes and left it. No one seemed to mind. Mr. Neilsen's headstone is in the northern-most part of the cemetery. There's a gray marble bench nearby with one of his quotes "Sit down whenever you can" and it faces his headstone with his dates and his words, "Let 'er rip." Truly a class act to the end and beyond.
