I am absolutely appalled by the experience I just had. The owner of this business is hands down the rudest and most disrespectful person I've ever encountered. I arrived around 3:45 PM and there were two cars ahead of me. During my previous visit, the owner had instructed me to park off to the side in front of the office because my car is low to the ground and cannot safely exit the garage drive-through due to the steep slope at the other end. This time, I followed his instructions, parked as advised, and waited patiently in my car for over an hour. When another car pulled into the driveway, I moved slightly to give the driver more room. Once he finished with the second car, I noticed he started working on the car that had just arrived--completely ignoring me, despite my having been there first. I politely stepped out of my car to let him know I had been waiting for over an hour and reminded him that the other car arrived after me. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, he accused me of not "checking in" and dismissed me by saying he wasn't "my waiter," so he would help the other customer first. He then claimed I wasn't parked in the exact spot he wanted--apparently, I needed to be five feet closer to the office. I was stunned by his behavior. I cannot understand how someone this disrespectful is still in business. Perhaps because smog checks are required by law, he feels no obligation to treat customers with basic decency or respect. If I could give a zero star rating--or perhaps even a negative one--I would :D This was the rudest, most unprofessional, experience I've had in a hot minute. I arrived to get my smog checked 30 minutes before closing and, at my husband's (previously used this establishment) advice, I waited in my car for someone to help me. Apparently, I missed a sign saying to check in at the front office but instead of simply telling me this with words, this man stared at me like I was an idiot and banged on the sign aggressively. He barked commands at me like he couldn't trust me to understand English and made sure I knew I was the only thing preventing him from closing. This man then took another customer after me and, for whatever reason, treated them without an ounce of the contempt he'd shown me. When he was done, my husband asked him if we were all finished and he said, "after I get paid," as if we were about to stiff him. Never coming here again. Oh, he also pocketed $5 by charging me $55 and waving me off with a receipt saying that the total was $50. I've been taking 2 cars to this place for Smog check the last 8 years or so. The Smog job is fine, nothing spectacular just gets the job done. The "owner" however is rude. He's the younger guy. Some times he's nice and other times he's rude and just a jerk! I experienced a smog check miracle today, and it is no doubt in part due to the great vibe at PB's Quick Smog, where, by the grace of the emissions gods, my vehicle legitimately passed the smog test. Hallelujah! This place is a Pacific Beach gem, with style and professionalism to boot. I got there right at 8:30 when they opened and was greeting by a charming guy who took my paperwork, gave me the $5 off coupon, and cracked some jokes before sending me inside to wait in their roomy shop. Comfy leather couches for reclining and a big TV make it easy to spread out, but the best part is the giant parrot who lives in a huge cage next to the window. If you get bored staring at your phone or zoning out with whatever's on the tube, passing the 20 minutes or so it takes to do the test watching the parrot loudly eat seeds is a great way to relax the old fashioned way. The process took less than 30 minutes, and I was given the good news by the owner, who kindly took the time to direct me to the closest DMV kiosk, where I could submit my registration paperwork and payment without dealing with the mail. It's so refreshing to encounter a business owner who cares about his work and the community he serves. He assumed my Van needed work done before a smog, said it wouldn't fit in his garage and sent me to a shop a block away that wanted to charge $110 for a SMOG. Anyways, I ended up going to PB European & Imports on the corner of Garnet and Lamont and they took care of me right away. They beat other prices and are respectful to their customers. I walked in and it took less than 10 minutes and Loren was extremely sweet and helpful. He let me know to replace my fuel cap that was cracked! It was leading to more gas consumption and waste and gas is a precious commodity and I don't need to be throwing away my money. They Took some basic information and got my car in immediately. Everything went smooth, fast and efficient. The best thing is they don't charge you for your smog test unless you pass unlike some other places that do a smog test knowing that you're going to fail (when you're out of state and check engine light on, they specifically speaking of INSTANT SMOG CHECK-DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE don't tell you this and still they do a smog test when that's an automatic fail). This is the second time I have brought my car to Quick Smog. And they live up to their name, they are QUICK. Luckily there was nobody in front of me so I was the first. It took around 15 minutes. I waited in the waiting room and spoke with Max the Parrot. Sign on his cage says "I bite" so I didn't dare to pet him. We just talked...... Charge was $45. (usual price is $50 but if you mention their coupon on their website you get $5 off). My car passed and they sent the report directly to the DMV electronically.
