They also have a washer/dryer, patio and large bathroom. The hotel includes gym access and is about two blocks from the most famous museum in Wellington, Te Papa. A few housekeeping items of note that may be useful to potential travelers: The front door is building closes at 5 pm,so you'll need a room key to enter past that time and to use the building's elevator. The washer/dryer takes about two hours for a load to complete drying. However, it may take longer if you have a large load. The rooms to the right of the entrance way have a nice view that is slightly obstructed, but still quite nice for a few city skyline photos. The staff are quite nice and provide you with an overview of all the amenities on site and a brochure with food recommendations and general reminders.

Let's start with the positives: 1) The location is hard to…read morebeat: Steps to Cuba Street and Courtney Place. All of Wellington feels easily walkable from your room. 2) All rooms are suites. The negatives: 1) Even though "Grand" is in the name, I wasn't expecting luxury. But I was expecting a high level of cleanliness. The back of the (sliding) bathroom door was covered with dust/grime, as was the extractor fan. There were many areas of the bathroom with mold growing. The rest of the room looked ok, but it's hard to tell with dark carpet and dark furniture. Management: It would not take much time to spot check your rooms every once in a while. 2) I believe there were only 3 rooms on the 8th floor. Still, I could hear neighbors until after 4 in the morning. I don't think anyone was being excessively loud; the walls are thin. Neutral: Our room did not have a full kitchen. There was a shelving unit with a small fridge, microwave, kettle, and toaster. We weren't cooking, so not a problem....but don't be fooled by claims of fully "self contained". 3 stars because it was a little nicer than a regular Mercure.
